Merry Christmas from me 🎄🐾

Whether you’ve trained with me this year, followed along quietly, sent a message for advice, or simply supported from afar, thank you.
Thank you for trusting me with your dogs.
Thank you for showing up for them.
And thank you for choosing kindness, patience, and understanding along the way 🤍

I hope your Christmas is calm, cosy, and full of moments that make you smile, muddy paws and all.
See you in the new year 🐶

Wish your dog could switch off when the house gets busy?

A reliable settle isn’t about forcing calm.
It’s about teaching your dog that relaxing is safe, predictable and rewarding.

When a dog learns where to settle and what to expect there, their nervous system starts to relax naturally. That skill is invaluable at Christmas… and just as powerful for everyday life.
Calm isn’t accidental.

It’s taught.

Colder weather and shorter days affect dogs more than we realise.

Some dogs feel more restless in winter.
Others slow down and seek comfort and routine.
Neither is wrong.

Behaviour changes aren’t problems to fix, they’re information to listen to. When you meet your dog’s seasonal needs with the right balance of mental work, predictable routines and appropriate outlets, everything feels easier for them.

Winter doesn’t mean regression.
It just means adjustment.

Training doesn’t stop just because it’s cold and dark outside.

Winter is actually the perfect time to build calm, focus and connection indoors, without distractions or pressure.
Short sessions.
Low expectations.
Lots of success.
Those tiny moments of practice really do add up and they make outdoor training so much easier when the weather improves.

The UK government has confirmed it will consult on banning electric shock collars for dogs as part of new animal welfare reforms.

Shock collars work by causing pain or fear. For many years, their use has been raised as a serious welfare concern by animal charities and dog professionals.

This is a consultation, not an immediate ban, but it’s an important step towards ending the use of aversive training tools in dog care.

Causing pain or fear has no place in training dogs.

Sweet little Joni 🥰

Joni came for a 121 for an in depth look at engagement, focus and confidence building.

We took a little walk near the venue she did her puppy classes at and took at her pace and capturing any looking at us. She very inquisitive , especially around other dogs and people, so it was a slow process at her own pace.

Looking forward to seeing her again for her adolescent classes ❤️

It’s overwhelm, not bad behaviour 🤍

Christmas can be a lot for dogs.
Extra noise.
Extra people.
Broken routines.
If your dog seems anxious, reactive, restless or “not themselves”, they’re not being difficult — they’re communicating.
Behaviour is information.
And at this time of year, it often says “this is too much for me.”
Supporting your dog might look like:
• giving them a safe, quiet space
• lowering expectations
• focusing on calm over control
• helping them learn how to settle when the house gets busy

Small changes can make a huge difference, for them and for you.

Christmas isn’t just exciting for dogs…
it’s overwhelming.

Noise.
Visitors.
Food temptations.
Zero routine.

When behaviour changes, it’s communication, not disobedience.

Support the emotion first and the behaviour follows.

If your dog struggles every Christmas, it’s not bad behaviour.

It’s overwhelm.

Extra people, noise, disrupted routines and unfamiliar smells can tip even the calmest dogs into stress. And when stress rises, behaviour changes.

The solution isn’t correction.
It’s preparation.

By keeping routines steady, identifying triggers early and creating safe, predictable spaces, you give your dog the tools to cope before things escalate.

Support the emotion first and the behaviour follows.
That’s how calm, confident dogs are built, not just for Christmas, but for life.
