Fab weekend away in north Yorkshire

Saturday we had a pointing day at Upper Helmsley again with wonderful hosts Sean and Vicky,
Delta had 2 short runs in the morning, hunting well and finding birds in the thickest of brambles, sadly she managed to get a bramble lodged in the cornea of her eye in the process!
Indie ran well in the afternoon, gaining confidence to get out and run!
Harry was a little too exuberant after his holidays, covering a lot of ground with good pace, just a little too fast for his nose to keep up!

Sunday we moved on to the HWVA grouse pointing test and Europa Cup pre-selection day on the fabulous North Yorkshire moors.
We were met with a bitter, cold wind rendering scenting extremely difficult coupled with flighty birds, no grading for Delta in the pointing test but she showed her worth and has been invited to the final selection day!

Thankyou to all involved in organising these incredible days for us to enjoy with our dogs!

although no placings this time I'm delighted with how they are all developing, beautiful temperaments, looks and workability to boot 👌

We will be repeating this breeding in spring this year with a few places available on the waiting list

That smile says it all!

Today we ventured to isle of Ely for a Crufts warm up with all 4 dogs.

Delta had a new handler today after a Facebook plea for a dog to take to crufts in the Young handler class! D has such a sweet temperament I knew she could step up to the challenge!
The pair managed a 3rd in a big open A.V gundog and won the Open vizsla taking Best of Breed! Well done Girls!

Indie 1st Post Grad, 3rd Open

Harry 2nd Post grad with Billy Handling, there's not many entire males you'd trust with an 11 year old handling him all day in a packed venue but Harry is a bit of a legend!

Raven (pointer) 3rd Post grad against much more mature dogs but she held her own!

Great day all round and delicious sausage rolls yet again thanks to chief chef and dog organiser 🤩

Days like today are what I enjoy most!

5 guns and 3 lovely friends with 4 dogs having a wander about clean up day!
a bit of driven, some shot over and walked up, all the dogs worked incredibly hard, plenty of retrieves and all mine had HPRs.
31 pheasant
1 duck and a snipe all going for the table!

I have some limited availability on the new group training walk!
Suited to high energy working dogs, We head out for 2-3 hours around the hills of Buxton where your dog will have a structured walk working on loose lead walking, Recall in open spaces and basic obedience.
(Well behaved dogs welcome too!)

Oh harrold 😍
After a few off days the lads back on form with a couple of incredibly challenging retrieves today!
This was a strong runner hen that had landed 200 yards back in the wood whilst Harry was out on another retrieve so a complete blind for him, sent in the vague direction and what sent like an eternity later he appeared, very pleased with his find of the day.

Harry’s first shot over day yesterday!

Ideally I’d of liked a few more months of work on game and cover crop prior to taking him out shot over but with both girls in season he stepped up to fill the space!
The first few runs of the morning he was a bit unruly and his legs going faster than his nose therefore bumping birds but he settled nicely toward lunch time and had some nice points and birds shot for him including a great long retrieve in tall crop which he marked beautifully,
Really pleased with his steadiness to shot and fall and a fair few hares popping up under his nose! Just needs tidying up now, good lad Harrold 👌

Hot dogs 🥵

Whilst still needing to work these guys for fitness during the shoot season it’s vital head out early and to cool them down properly post exercise, normally that’s a swim and cold shower once we’re home.
Followed by including supportive care in their diets too, I love oil/ powder and Nutrilyte supplements to replenish lost minerals and aid recovery

Chris and Coco joined me today for a brilliant session!
Coco’s has been for a several sessions back in winter working on controlling her immense hunting drive and tidying up her retrieving.
This was her first day on cold game and what a gem! Topped off with delivery to hand from water and navigating obstacles like a pro 👌

Love watching both dog and owner develop as a true partnership
