It is less than 1 month until it a legal requirement for cats to be microchipped in England!!

With less than 1 month to go we are offering £10 OFF cat microchipping to help our clients comply with the legislation. This brings the cost down from £25 to £15.

Pet Care Plan patients get a microchip included FREE OF CHARGE- speak to our reception team about joining the Pet Care Plan!

- Kittens will need to be microchipped by the time they’re 20 weeks old.
- If a cat isn't microchipped by 10th June, owners will need to ensure it's done within 21 days or risk a potential fine of up to £500.

Do you know how poisonous lilies can be for cats? 😨

Nine-month-old Lewi needed emergency treatment after coming into contact with the fragrant flower in the neighbour’s garden. When Lewi returned home, she was lethargic and very quiet, which was unlike her. She also had some strange orange stains on the fur around her mouth. Worried, her family went outside to find out what she had eaten. They spotted a dying bouquet of flowers next door, containing lilies, and assumed Lewi had most likely eaten some of the pollen 😧

Knowing lilies are very dangerous to cats, they called the team at our Wolverhampton Pet Hospital for help. When Lewi got to the Pet Hospital, she was admitted for an IV fluid drip and blood tests straight away. Luckily, her initial blood tests showed that her kidneys had not yet been badly affected.

Lilies are highly toxic to cats. If they eat or lick any part of a lily plant, such as the leaves, petals, or pollen, they’re likely to develop kidney damage. This can lead to kidney failure and death if left untreated 😿

Lewi stayed overnight so she could be monitored closely by the team. Thankfully, the next day, her blood test results were normal and she was able to go home.

Speaking about Lewi, her owner’s granddaughter said: “We got Lewi to keep my 80-year-old Grandma company as she lives alone. Ever since they met, they’ve developed such a lovely bond. We’ll always be grateful for PDSA; without them, my Grandma wouldn’t have somewhere to turn for affordable vet treatment in a life-threatening situation.” 🥰

Millie has come to us because her owner has gone into a care home. Millie is 10 years old in good health all Millie wants is a nice knee in a quiet warm house and she will reward you with plenty of love in return.

Otto
Our lovely Russian Blue is still looking for a home. Otto hides behind his bed but decided to peep out to see what was going on. Otto is very gentle and doesn't spit or scratch but needs time to become more confident around people. We think he may have been used for breeding.

😿SPECIAL APPEAL 😿 please share…

Our friends over at Stapeley Grange in Nantwich are desperately looking for a home for siblings Luke and Leia who have been overlooked many times since coming into the cattery!

Luke (black/white) and Leia (dark tortie) are around 3 years old. They were rescued in February 2021 after being found huddled together under floorboards when their former owner passed away at a property. It was such a harrowing experience for them and they were very nervous and anxious on their arrival. Although we don’t know their history, their nervous behaviour suggests they may have had bad experiences with people in the past.
During their stay at the cattery, Luke and Leia were very wary of being approached and preferred to stay on the other side of their enclosure when people were around. They didn’t understand how to interact with us and were not making any progress so a decision was made to place them in foster care in November 2021. We hoped that this would give them an opportunity to get used to living in a home and help build up trust in people. In their new surroundings, they’ve learnt to socialise with their carer and are now ready to make their next move to a permanent forever home.
When Luke and Leia arrived at their foster home, they were extremely nervous and quickly found hidey holes to disappear into- only emerging overnight to eat and to play together. Leia became particularly good at hide-and-seek, secreting herself in bookshelves and cupboards and down the side of the washing machine! Gradually they’ve spent more time “out in the open” but they still like to know there’s safe space of a bed or a coffee table nearby to retreat under. They’re not vocal cats, but sometimes the lovely sound of spontaneous purring is heard when they’re together.
Luke and Leia just love to play together – Luke may be bigger, but Leia is faster! At night, when people are elsewhere, you’ll hear them dashing around and chasing toys. Over time they are gaining more confidence and becoming more interactive and love to play with wand toys.
Although wary, Luke and Leia have learnt a greeting. A slow approach from close to their level, with an outstretched index finger will earn you a nose-poke from both cats, and eventually maybe you’ll be allowed to do a little nose rub too. Leia is becoming more confident with these nose-poke greetings and is starting to allow some gentle strokes of her front paws, chest and neck. These moments don’t last long, but they’re very rewarding. Luke really enjoys cheek scratches and head and chin rubs from the end of the stick toy but Leia is a little more wary of things approaching from above her head. Both Luke and Leia are now feeling relaxed enough to sometimes stretch out on the floor and show their tummies.
They’re both rather partial to freshly cooked chicken, which both will take from an outstretched hand. Lik-e-Lix yogurt sticks are also a favourite treat for both cats, especially Luke, who will lick this from the palm of your hand, while Leia is now brave enough to lick it from a fingertip. While distracted with a foodie treat, they will sometimes allow a chin tickle or a cheek stroke.
Luke and Leia are clearly bonded and they like to be quite close together so they will need to be re-homed as a pair. They are still quite worried by sudden movements so we think they would be best suited to a calm household without children or other animals.
Luke and Leia have made tremendous progress since they arrived at Stapeley Grange, but they are still nervous cats and will take time to learn to trust you.
