⛰️ Adventure Day ⛰️

We have had such a fantastic adventure day today. Oz, Sasha, Milo and I headed to Glossop and we got sooo lucky with the weather! 5 miles done and a very peaceful journey home with 3 tired dogs.

Adventure days are offered to my regular walking customers as a chance for the dogs to get some extra miles in and give their owners a break for the day. Perfect if you’ve got plans or just want some peace and quiet!

The face behind the business! Here’s a bit of an introduction to me for those of you that are new here 👋

I’m Ellie, I’m 26 and I’ve had the business almost 2 years now. I come from a horsey background with a lifetime’s experience of dogs of all shapes and sizes. I’ve had various jobs in the past; from grooming on a competition yard, to hospitality, to studying for 2/3 of a law degree but playing with dogs and horses every day is definitely where I’m happiest!

I’m OFQUAL canine first-aid qualified (currently the only L3 qualification in the UK), DBS checked, and comprehensively insured through Petplan both for dog walking and housesitting, and as a freelance equine groom with the British Groom’s Association.

I have one pet gundog (hopefully one day anyway… it’s a work in progress as those with adolescent dogs will know 😵‍💫) called Rupert, and two horses of my own. I have competed up to BE100 and I offer competition grooming/prep as part of my services, as well as all day-to-day yard jobs/holiday cover. I offer group dog walking, very limited housesitting spaces and pop in visits for puppies/elderly dogs.

My customers’ pets are my biggest priority, I understand how much trust it takes to allow someone you’ve only just met to care for your dog/horse and I don’t take that responsibility lightly.

Jonty (right) is a nervous boy and Poppy was quite a boisterous puppy but they have become the best of friends in the last year and they’re such a pleasure to walk together!

I took 4 of the gang on our first ever adventure day today! They were so well behaved and had so much fun.

These days out are ideal if you’ve got weekend plans that aren’t dog-friendly, you’d like your dog to socialise more or you’d simply just like a bit of peace and quiet.

There’ll be more dates coming over the Summer weekends, keep an eye out so you can get your dog booked on!

The dogs had a blast in the sunshine yesterday! Here’s how I make sure the dogs get to enjoy the warmer weather whilst keeping them safe:

☀️ Walks are moved to locations with lots of shade and ideally some access to the river

😎 I keep a close eye on temperature; walks between 20-22°c will be shortened and if temps reach 23°c walks will be cancelled and moved to home visits. Temperatures lower than this apply to older dogs, large breeds, brachycephalic breeds and particularly hairy dogs.

☀️ Aircon on full blast in my car, which is parked in the shade whilst we walk to keep the dogs cool after their walk.

😎 I carry lots of water in the car with me so that dogs can have a big drink before and after the walk, I also carry a drinking bottle on the walks so they have access to water at all times.

☀️ I am well versed in the symptoms of heat stroke, I carry a thermometer in my first aid kit and have towels in the car. I watch the dogs for symptoms of overheating and In the unlikely event any of them show the first signs of it, I am able to administer first aid and am aware of the proximity to a vet if needed.

😎 Always have a feel of the pavement with the back of my hand to make sure the ground is not too hot for the dogs to walk on.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry in the summer months, there’s always another day for a walk! 🐾

This month’s Pooch And Paw delivery 😍😋

The pate is fantastic as a high value reward when training with Rupert. The chews are for allll the dogs to share, not just Rupert this time. I give them on the way to/from our group walks as a bit of extra enrichment and to distract from any car anxiety. I always use all natural chews as they provide entertainment and an extra a bit of nutrition without any of the nasty fillers or chemicals found in most shop bought chews 🙌🏼

Rupert is starting to get out and about to work with me when I have the appropriate babysitters and he is LOVING it.

Obviously only in small doses because despite now being enormous, he’s only just 4 months old so I need to be careful with his growing joints but I’m so excited for when he can come with me every day. His recall has been great around the other dogs ❤️

Before and after the treat throws 😂 Owners always ask how I manage to get good pictures of the dogs and the answer is always bribery!

Still here and surviving winter, the dogs all remain completely unbothered by the cold and wet! I am fully booked for solos and group walks at the moment, but will have some availability from the end of this month as I have a diary reshuffle coming up.
