Doggie Steps Dog Training

Doggie Steps Dog Training Doggie Steps Dog Training offers ethical, kind, force free training. I am a DTC CDT dog trainer. Dogs can live for 15 years plus and situations do change.
(16)

I also offer house sitting, where your dogs can stay in their own home while you are away. Offering you peace of mind, that your dogs are safe and secure. 🐢 My name is Paula and I own Doggie Steps, a dog walking service in
Camborne. After working in the public sector for many years I decided I needed a complete change. I have always wanted to work with animals and spent a couple of years volun

teering as a dog walker for a rescue centre. When I finally adopted my own beautiful dog, Chance, he inspired me to start up a dog walking business, meaning I could spend more time with him as well as helping other dog owners. There is nothing I like more than seeing the enjoyment that Chance gets running around on the beach and playing with all his doggie friends. I also understand that people don't always have the time to do this due to work restraints or changes in circumstances. I can walk your dog in a group or one-to-one depending on your dog's needs. I also offer puppy visits for your new addition. Your dog's safety and wellbeing are my top priority; you can go to work, safe in the knowledge that your dog is getting the exercise they need with the same love, care and attention you would lavish on them yourselves. I am police checked, hold full public liability insurance and can provide references if required. Doggie Steps is now Pet First Aid Trained. www.doggiesteps.co.uk

Growling. Snarling. Snapping. Biting. Once we understand why dogs display these types of behavior, we can understand what to do to resolve them.

Not everything is the same for every dog. We always need to look at the dog in front of us. Are their enrichment needs being met? Today, I'm using a snuffle mat, which is ideal for Axel as he's a flat face breed.
Here, he is showing natural behaviours.
Foraging
Digging
Sniffing.
This will help him with self-regulation and coping skills. It will also stimulate that grey matter. Which is what we all need! 🀣🀣

Wanting a behaviour from our dogs to stop is common. Sadly, there are so many 'trainers' who appear on television or have massive social media followings who will advocate using devices and methods that 'will stop it fast'. Let's be honest, as humans we are often results driven, so I can see why these would appeal to people who don't know why these things should not be recommended and used. The reality is that they can make the situation so much worse.

Suppressing a behaviour doesn't mean that the reasons that behaviour happened aren't still there, just that the dog can't do what they feel they need to in that situation. That can lead to increased frustration, stress, fear - depending on what the driver for that behaviour is. Think of it like a pressure cooker, adding more and more pressure, with no way to reduce that pressure. Eventually there comes a point where the pressure is just too much and boom.

If a behaviour is something we can't live with, there are things we can do without suppressing that behaviour. Manage the situation so that the dog is not in a position to practice that behaviour - for example baby gates to stop them jumping up at arriving guests or finding quiet areas to walk if your dog is uncomfortable with other dogs close up. If there is something you would prefer them to do in that situation keep using the management and then, using kind and ethical methods, teach them what you would like them to do instead. If the behaviour is not something that we can simply train an alternative for - a dog who reacts to other dogs around for example - find a behaviour consultant who uses modern and kind methods to help the dog no longer feel the need to use that behaviour.

Behaviour suppression is never the answer.

St Francis is still looking for a fosterer or a foster to adopt home for Dudley. As you can see in the video, he has really settled in his temporary home. But this is only home for the next couple of days. We urgently need to find a home for him to go. Dudley is a Hunterway x and 8 months old. He does need help with confidence, but he's a lovely boy who needs to find his person/people. Dudley is really switched on and will be a dream to train. If you can help, please contact me or St Francis dog home. πŸ• πŸ™β€οΈ

CAN YOU HELP US?

WE NEED TO URGENTLY FIND A β€˜FOSTER’ HOME OR β€˜FOSTER TO ADOPT’ HOME FOR OUR DUDLEY

We took him in to join the St Francis family today as he was really not coping in his home and it got to crisis point.
Our trainer has spent some time with him today and he is lovely. We have secured a place for him until Sunday evening but we need somewhere a little longer term after that until we can find a forever home for him. I have put a video or two in the comments so you can see more of him.

Dudley is a New Zealand Huntaway and, although he is only 8 months old, is really lovely and seems to be a good boy. He is walking nicely on his lead, not too much fazes him despite his relative inexperience.

He is an adolescent but not really hyper. He enjoys his walks, is a fast learner and loves his training sessions. He would need adequate exercise in keeping with his energetic nature and time spent with him to continue his learning. He would make a lovely running or hiking companion.

The ideal home for Dudley would be one where there are no small children or cats and has a secure garden so he can play. We believe he could live with another dog as long as the resident dog can cope with an adolescent in-tact male in the home.

If you think you could provide this lovely boy with a suitable home for a short time or maybe a foster to adopt situation then please get in touch.
at [email protected]

We only rehome within Cornwall and a home check would be required.

Sometimes, we just need to let our dogs observe their environment. Habituation is more important than socialisation to me! We don't always need to be in a rush. Our dogs learn so much more just watching 🐢🐢❀️
