The first two
Perfectly suit all types of dog guardians with a desire to understand a canine mind more
The 3 well it’s a must for body language nerds but possibly not everyone’s cup of tea / coffee / cocoa

I’m often asked Why Arthur is such a Calm well Behaved boy !
What can I say !
A) I 100% have never knowingly put him in a situation I did not think he could handle
B:: I we practiced WALK ON past all distractions human or Canine on lead from The 12 week stage .
C) is for Canines
socialisation is important
We went to Fetes ,we went on a train , on a bus , to a fair ground , into towns into a city on a bus , to fun dog shows . To The Pub . To the vet just to say Hi x
I did not Encourage him in anyway to greet any person without my input so that it was always a comfortable interaction! ( just imagine how scary this is )
I did not encouraged him to ** SAY HELLO ** ( I hate this ethos of Social)
to any other canine
Without structure :
I found his sweet spot PRAISE he loves praise
And oh yes Every walk for the first TWO YEARS was a school day
Not just 8 weeks of Puppy Class 😇
IS HE PERFECT
Oh my days NO
But all of that created a bond that’s unbreakable ❤️
A respect for Each other that’s unwavering ( unless we see a Squirrel 🐿️)
I Also absolutely buy into the

PACK 😆because it’s the centre of the universe where dogs are concerned! So let me set some basics straight before I delve into the world of the pack this week with you!
Firstly - don’t come at me I know they’re not wolves! But the law of the jungle as it always has been (thanks to Rudyard Kipling for the quote) is being undone by new woke narrative and humans are less comfortable with hierarchy nowadays so we try and enforce our will over nature as normal….
And as normal it has disastrous consequences!!

Dog training is like religion! We all have our own views and beliefs and we all like to argue about who is right and who is wrong - when the truth is we will probably never know!
But here is my view and where it originated from!
My background is in zoology. I have worked previously with dolphins, wolves and orangutans but most prominently Gorillas! I know.. I was incredibly fortunate!!! And my whole ethos and methodology with dogs stems from my work & experience with the great apes!
I had to learn the intricacies of their own behaviour to enable me to understand and communicate effectively with them.
Disrespectful behaviour towards the silverback males could be fatal. Observing and respecting their culture and dynamics of the troop was the key. Without understanding the structure of the troop - you would never understand the individual behaviour of the members!! And it was a joy to watch!
I found the misrepresentation of the male gorilla as an alpha male dominant aggressive character similar to that of the “alpha male” dog! With either a troop of gorilla or a pack of dogs It’s not about being dominant and ruling with fear and force.
It’s about a beautiful balance and harmony between members with deep respect and understanding of a hierarchical system.
An understanding that is being forced into extinction with new age dog professionals determined there is no pack. It’s so damaging!
There was a study done on a pack of captive wolves and the findings showed a system explained as dominance and then years of research “debunked” this one theory.. (I don’t want to focus on this too much because it’s boring) but from that came the conclusion that dogs being a pack has been debunked…and that’s simply not true!!!
Dogs are a pack. They always have been they always will be - humans becoming woke and finding hierarchy uncomfortable does not change the nature of the animal!!!!!

We must amend our thinking to understand theirs as they cannot adjust theirs to understand us!

Remember I don’t align with either camp of dog trainers.. I’m not Positive plus and I’m not balanced - I class myself as a natural dog trainer using mainly pack methods and my own dogs to correct behaviour issues..no tools and not just throwing treats on the floor!

So for the rest of the week I’ll be explaining how the pack works and how crucial it is to understand the pack to understand your dog!!
