“ITS OK HE’S FRIENDLY”

When an owner shouts “it’s ok he’s friendly” as their dog is advancing at break neck speed towards your, under control on lead dog, what he’s actually saying is “my dog is totally out of my control and has absolutely no recall because I’m too lazy to train him”.

The “it’s ok he’s friendly” dog owner believes it’s his right to have his friendly dog off lead harassing others no matter where he is and we can safely assume therefore he has no manners himself either!

The “it’s ok he’s friendly” dog owner has no idea about dogs and is too lazy to learn. He doesn’t therefore understand that your dog may be recovering from an operation, may be nervous or anxious, or that you may actually be training your dog! He doesn’t really even care!

The “it’s ok he’s friendly” dog owner is generally looking for your dog or another person’s dog to entertain or wear his dog out so that he doesn’t have to do it himself!

The “it’s ok he’s friendly” dog owner often thinks that you, the owner who is being responsible and keeping their dog on a lead and under control, is actually the problem and that you shouldn’t be walking where his “friendly dog” with no training or recall has the right to run free!

The reality is that the “it’s ok he’s friendly” dog owner is a selfish and ignorant dog owner!

Don’t be an “it’s ok he’s friendly” dog owner.

Take responsibility & Train your dog and be aware of etiquette and other’s needs and rights too.

Ivy may possibly be in Scotland.
Please can everyone keep a look out. Missing since

It’s been 5 very long weeks since Ivy was stolen and as a family our hearts are broken. We’ve had a very tough year, 10 months ago I was diagnosed with incurable stage 4 bowel cancer, which in itself is difficult to deal with as a family. I am finding it so hard to not have Ivy here with us, if telling the world of our continued struggle helps to bring her home, so we can cuddle her again then it’s been worth doing. Please give her back. Hand her in at a vets etc. Please please let her come home 💔

The same goes for kennels too. None of us want to end up in A&E or be hospitalised because a dog had bitten us.
Before Christmas last year a kennel owner in Fife was killed by a dog that he had in his kennels. The dog bit him & he bled to death.

Dear Dog Owners,

This week I have seen post after post after post on the veterinary social media pages about the struggle with larger breed dogs that are undisciplined and fearful and trying to bite at staff and veterinarians. Half of the posts stated that they, the vet, were going to stop seeing any large breed dogs, some of them said that they were going to fire all clients who had dogs that were not well controlled, others said that they were starting to refuse service to dogs that growled or tried to bite or got freaked out when they tried to examine them. Clients, this is a huge problem and it is your problem and let's be real, it is your fault.

Dogs are NOT children or humans and we need to stop treating them like they are. They are animals! They do not learn by being coddled and babied and allowed to get away with whatever they feel like doing. It does not work that way in the animal kingdom. If you are a little s**t of a dog your mom or some older dog is going to bite your head off to teach you! Once that puppy leaves its mom, you now become the teacher and trainer of what is and what is not acceptable behavior and if you don't, you and you alone are ruining your dog!

Dogs need discipline! They are like your kids! They need you to teach them, to train them, to discipline them so they learn what is and what is not acceptable. I can not tell you the number of times I have been in an exam room and a dog is growling at me and the owner does nothing. In fact, often times they pull back from the dog and they always get that sheepish look and often will say, “he doesn’t bite.” The hell he doesn’t bite! He is a dog, he bites and he is going to bite me because you have not shown him who is boss and he has no fear of humans and he has no idea that being a jerk is not allowed.

Please, if you love your dog, do your job and discipline them, train them, show them the proper way to behave and make sure they know that being a jerk gets them in trouble. If you do not, you will not be able to find a vet to help them when they are in need and that will be your fault and not the vets fault. No where in our oath does it say that we have to subject ourselves to being bitten by someones dog because they treated it like a human and felt sorry for it and never disciplined it and so it now has no respect for humans and bites. If you don’t start being a responsible pet owner, your dog is not going to be seen and you do not want that to happen.

Do not let your dog be the top dog in your house! It is not fair to them and it is not fair to us in the veterinary profession when we have to fear for our safety in order to try and help them when they are sick.

Teach them to be nice, take them to uncomfortable places, make sure they know that humans are the big dog in the relationship, that does not mean you beat them that means you show them that you are the boss by not allowing them to be jerks and get away with behaviors that they shouldn’t. Your dogs life and health depend on you being a good dog owner and raising them to be good dogs.

Sincerely,
Dr Debbie and Every Vet

Discharge from the eyes
Not wanting to eat

Less energy than usual

Some dogs only develop the cough. Please be alert

Thank you 😊

YOUR DOG IS NOT A BABY
Today's culture is absolutely ruining dogs.
People are treating their dogs like people, and no matter how much you say it, or what you think, they're not kids, they're dogs... A predator with forty-two teeth on the head and a bite pressure that can break bones.
They deserve to be treated like dogs!
Somehow treating your dog like a dog has become a taboo topic and it's because of today's mentality.
Can't say no to a dog.
I can't go with a dog in cold weather.
Can't let a dog get muddy.
Can't give a dog a job.
If your dog is in shape, he's too skinny.
We’re walking through a world where giving your dog a job is cruel beyond belief, but having a 30kg overweight dog with diabetes that can’t move is absolutely fine. Something totally distorted, twisted and wrong.
They are dogs! Treat them like dogs. You can't have any animals and pretend to be a baby. Hi this is my whale he is my baby. It doesn't work like that.
We need to push this current mentality back because it's literally killing dogs. Dogs are dying everyday simply because no one told them what rules they were supposed to follow or because they didn't get a job they so needed.
Let’s start honoring our dogs for the absolutely amazing creatures they are. Dogs are magnificent, majestic, intelligent and robust. To me they are the best animal on the planet so let's stop killing them and treat them for exactly what they aren't.
Honor your dog.

When you get your 8 week old puppies, please keep these images in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.

When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.

When you're letting your puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.

You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.

Once grown you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.

Some smaller breeds need to be walked on a harness to avoid damaging their windpipes but owners must still ensure they are wearing an identifiable tag by law
