One of my dogs passed over the rainbow bridge recently. This fantastic jeweller Emily Siminska made this for me with my dogs hair. It’s a gorgeous memory of her and she will now always be with me .

Final polish on this beauty.

There's a little secret on the back of the handcarved wing charm...it's also stamped with a special name ❤️ 🐾

The Bonio Challenge!
Our advanced group worked on their 'leave it' last night and their homework was to be able to recall their dog away from a bonio!

Here is Lola showing us it is possible! Post your attempt in the comments.

The purple is back in town 💜💪🏻

Those who don’t know, leucillin is like a miracle in a bottle. It’s for skin irritation, cuts, post and pre surgery, scrapes, allergies, animals and humans. We’ve been using it on us in the parlour for years before they marketed it for humans 🤭😬 it’s 💯 safe in the eyes, ears and mouth too 👌🏻

I use it in dogs in the parlour and on my own dogs, I don’t sell anything in here that I don’t use myself 🤩

Do your dogs have bad teeth?

I don’t normally recommended products but I’ve used this on my Daxies (big dogs have fab teeth little ones never have) and it’s made a huge difference.

With the warmer weather ahead, owners should be mindful of the signs of heatstroke. 🌡️ Heatstroke is a serious illness that develops when a dog gets too hot and is unable to lower its temperature. Left untreated, heatstroke can lead to seizures, organ failure and even death.

Any dog can develop heatstroke, but overweight, young, elderly, flat-faced, giant-breed, and thick-coated dogs are particularly at risk, even from just sitting out in hot weather.

Some of the most common triggers for heatstroke include:
🥵 Overheating during exercise - accounts for 74% of cases
☀️ Being outside in hot weather (even just sitting still) - accounts for 12.9% of cases
🚘♨️ Being trapped in a hot car - accounts for 5.2% of cases

See advice from our vets on what you can do to help prevent or provide first aid for heatstroke: http://pdsa.me/hpSh

🧊 Please note that ice cubes are perfectly safe for dogs to use as a treat to cool down on a hot day. It is when a dog is suffering from heatstroke that the drastic change in temperature from the ice can cause shock, and therefore should be avoided. A dog’s normal body temperature is around 38.6°C (101.5°F).

They’re often the heart of the home, so we know how devastating it is when pets are stolen.

While national media coverage has recently warned of a spike in dog thefts, they do remain thankfully rare in south Wales.

One theft is one too many though, so we’re urging pet owners to take every precaution to avoid falling victim to thieves:

🐾 Keep your home and garden secure
🐾 Consider what you post about your pets on social media. Are you identifying where you live?
🐾 Ensure your dog is microchipped – and your details are kept up-to-date on the provider’s database
🐾 Make sure your dog’s tag includes your contact details
🐾 Don’t leave dogs unattended in public – when off the lead, keep them in sight and practise recall regularly

🐾 Report suspicious activity to us via:

Always dial 999 in an emergency.

🐍 ADDER ALERT! 🐍

This large adder was spotted by one of our vets whilst out on a walk today.

With the warmer weather, take extra care with your dogs in known adder habitats as they are more likely to be out basking. Sand dunes (like around Merthyr Mawr warren) are a common place we see bites occurring.

Adders are the only venomous snake in the UK. Bites to dogs are usually due to an over inquisitive nose or accidentally treading on a snake; adders prefer to keep themselves to themselves.

Thankfully bites are seldom fatal, but they are painful and require treatment as quickly as possible.
