The tongue of a cat has tiny, backward-facing barbs (papillae) on it and they’re the things that create that rough sensation. The barbs serve several important functions. They make it easier for a cat to rasp the meat from the bones of his prey. The barbs also aid in grooming as they collect dirt, debris and loose hair from the cat’s coat. The downside to the backward-facing barbs though is that anything the cat collects on her tongue will usually end up getting swallowed and that’s how your cat may end up with lots of hairballs. The barbs on the tongue also make it dangerous should your cat get some yarn, string or tinsel in his mouth because he won’t be able to spit it out.

This was the first day I was rescued and brought back to my new home. I hadn't bathed properly for a while and I couldn't find any dinner until my hoomans fed me, so be forgiving about how I look in this image - I know I don't look my best. I would of loved to have had my coat done before I came to my new home, but I'm so happy and grateful to have shelter and food everyday guys. 🐾

Try not to take for granted the things and people around you. ❤👌

🐾🐆This is when we rescued our little street kitten Buto, poor thing was skin and bones, running around by a recycling warehouse. She was roaming around petrified - in and around the lorries that dock there regularly. We had to take her in, bless her! 🐆
