As a volunteer Nook on Lyne Labradors were recently contacted by Pet Blood Bank to see whether Diesel was able to attend a donation session at Frame & Swift in Penrith. Although not our local venue we decided to travel Diesel to Penrith as he has DEA 1 negative blood type which is currently in high demand as stocks are very low. Before donating Diesel had a full health examination and a blood sample taken to ensure he was in peak health to donate and I am pleased to say that he passed with flying colours👏👏. As you can see Diesel was very proud of himself for being brave and contributing to saving 4 lives. He was rewarded with a bandana, a toy, some treats and a photo shoot which he was thrilled with . We are so proud of this boy, the joy he brings us and his infectious enthusiasm to be at the vets😂😂❤️❤️🐾🐾

Every one of our new puppy owners knows exactly how hard we work at getting our puppies familiar and accustomed to the sound of fireworks. While this time of year may be fun for some humans it can be a very stressful and frightening time for our dogs. Here are some ways to keep your dog feel safe and calm during fireworks.

1. Create a safe space

2. Close windows and curtains

3. Play soothing music to help mask the sound of the fireworks. Classic FM’s Pet Classics have their annual radio show to help owners and their pets relax during the firework season. The two special programmes are being broadcast from 5pm-9pm on Saturday 2nd November and Tuesday 5th November

4. Distract your dog with games, toys and lick mats

5. Keep your dog indoors during a firework display

6. Walk your dog early before the fireworks start

7. Keep calm yourself. Dogs have up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their nose and can detect pheromones that indicate fear or nervousness in humans

8. Offer calming herbs in your dogs diet

9. Offer calming hydrosols to your dog

10. Continue with desensitising your dog throughout the year which I ALWAYS encourage new owners to do.

Well 2024 has been a remarkable year for Nook on Lyne Labradors achieving accolades that we could only ever of dreamt were possible.

Last month we were advised that we had been nominated for a Global Recognition Award 2024. The judging panel set to work with their rigorous independent research together with the scrutiny of our Website and Client Reviews. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the judging panel have awarded Nook on Lyne Labradors with a Global Recognition Award 2024 for our unwavering dedication to our Outstanding Commitment to the Responsible and Ethical Breeding Practices in the Breeding of Labrador Retrievers and Exceptional Client Engagement and Support.

During the National dog breeding convention in 2022 one of the guest online speakers was Trevor Cooper a Dog Law expert with 29 years experience.

Trevor acts for many clients including representing The Dogs Trust and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. He’s often in demand for media appearances and travels the country giving seminars to professionals and dog owners alike.

I therefore could not miss the opportunity to attend an in person seminar hosted by Carlisle and District Canine Society on 6th October. The seminar was attended by new owners, experienced owners and professionals and
Trevor who has a wealth of knowledge and experience gave us all a great insight into Dog Law in England.

It’s always great to demonstrate our commitment to Continued Professional Development and by attending these important seminars it helps us to continue our education and build on our knowledge to be the best we can. As such we have booked places on 2 further brand new webinars in December and February being hosted by Cooper & Co with a range of guest speakers covering more Dog Law Topics. It was lovely to hear that the half brothers Kal & Jim had met up again today in a private play paddock in Bermuda. I was sent some lovely photos of the boys looking so happy and handsome THEN I get the photo of them both where Jim spoils their whole image by looking what I can only describe as deranged😂😂😂😂.

We are thrilled with the fantastic news that Diesel, Willow & Ruby passed their annual BVA/KC/ISDS eye 👀 test today. There are many types of eye disease both congenital and non-congenital that affect dogs. It is vital that BOTH parents are screened for disease in order to make Informed breeding decisions in order to produce the healthiest puppies possible🐾🐾

We attended a Pet First Aid Course last night hosted by our vet Liz Shepherd owner of The Visit Vet. As Diesel has rather large ears which he notoriously passes on to his offspring we thought it would very good to practice bandaging a potential ear injury. As you can see he was more than happy to participate as it meant he was the centre of attention😂😂and for those of you that have met Diesel you will know exactly what I mean😂😂🐾🐾

I am absolutely overjoyed to see this wonderful sight of the two half brothers Kal & Jim who met for the very first time on Friday, they had a blast. Jim was also apparently very taken with Galleta, Kal’s sister, he’s clearly a ladies man just like his Dad😂😂. As Bermuda 🇧🇲 is a relatively small island the owners would like these 2 boys and Galleta to meet on a regular basis for a play date which is just fantastic🐾🐾

Thank you Mike & Hollie for your fabulous 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review. It was lovely to work with you over many months as it really helped me to understand what it is you and your young family were looking for in a puppy. Frank was the most confident puppy in the litter and was unfazed by most things. He was playful, spirited and robust just what was needed for your family dynamics😜😜🐾🐾.

We started to consider getting a new dog when our oldest dog Betty passed away last September from old age and our 12 year old Labrador, Mabel was diagnosed with incurable cancer. We have had dogs in the household for 15 years so as a family we decided we didn’t want to be without a dog for long but also didn’t want to rush into just buying any pup that was readily available.

We knew that we wanted to have a puppy that had the best possible chance of having a long and healthy life so it was paramount to us that we found a breeder that took health checking the parent dogs and rearing their pups seriously.

We didn’t know how long our poorly Labrador Mabel was going to be around for, so it was important for us to find a breeder that was compassionate towards this, Also a breeder that would allow us a place on their waiting list who could flexible as we didn’t feel we wanted to replace Mabel straight away but didnt want to go too long in a dog less house.

Not only did Vicky hit all the right markers for us in terms of pedigree and the breeding of her dogs but she also gives a very, very high level of customer care towards her prospective owners. She’s considerate towards their needs and is also very serious about making sure her dogs go into the right homes.

As experienced dog owners, it was interesting to learn about Vicky’s process as we felt it was quite unique, particularly the puppy profiling. It didn’t take us long to understand that her spending a very concentrated eight weeks with these young dogs gives her a far better insight of their behaviour and temperament. In addition to this Vicky keeps very close contact with perspective owners throughout the process. She asked us lots of questions and got to know about our home life and lifestyle which I believe helped her match us with Frank perfectly. Vicky was very honest that we were matched up with one of the more spirited / confident puppies in the litter which suits our lifestyle and our ability to train Frank. We have trained dogs before and we have two young children so we needed a robust and confident dog which I believe we have got in Frank.

By comparison to our other dogs, Frank has been a dream to train and is very biddable and unfazed by most things which is testament to the effort that Vicky puts in early on with the pups neurological stimulation.

As a family, we would 100% recommend Nook on Lyne Labradors and hope very much that we will be able to take another dog from them in the future .

“We recently had the privilege to bring our special boy Bruce into our little family! We had spent quite some time researching Labrador breeders and trying to find one that aligned with what we needed for a family with varying dynamics. It was our 8 year old boy who suddenly came running into the living room one night saying “Daddy i think I’ve found the breeder!” - he had found Nook On Lyne!

My wife and I spent some time reading reviews, the website and understanding what Vicky and Mike do as ethical breeders - we all knew this was the one! We filled out the expression form and had an initial long but extremely and importantly worthwhile video call with Vicky allowing her to see our dynamics and family life and when we got the call to say we had been accepted we were so thrilled! Each week we were given video call updates, seeing the puppies develop and what Vicky and Mike do in terms of the scent and sound work is essential and Bruce has been set up for life. Vicky and Mike are so helpful and advisory throughout the process and we would highly highly recommend them.

We rescued a young beagle / hound cross last year and it was important for him to have a companion the pair of them have become best friends and are inseparable.

We are beyond happy with Bruce and he has already found his place in our family and nothing seems to phase him!

Jim is an amazing boy and we both cried buckets when you both pulled out of Carlisle Station heading to Euston. He was big part of our lives but we know how much you adore ❤️ him. “I first found Vicky and Mike in December of 2023 after a long search for an ethical breeder. The most important thing to me was finding someone whose dogs were part of the family, and who lived full lives. After an initial conversation about my lifestyle, what I was looking for in a puppy, and whether I was prepared for a Labrador, I was put on the waiting list for Ebony's litter.

When I first saw the video of Jim pop up a few months later, I was one of many people who reached out to Vicky expressing interest in him. Unsurprising, as he is such a handsome boy. We had many conversations while she reprofiled me, Jim, and others. It was important to us both that we made sure this was the right fit. Not only would he have to make the long journey to Bermuda, but I was not able to pick Jim up for another three months. I don't think Vicky knew how much anxiety I felt while she did her due diligence in vetting every home. Under the circumstances I knew it was a huge ask for her and Mike to keep him on for that long. Luckily for me, it was decided that Jim and I were the right fit!

One thing about Vicky, is she does nothing by halves... She immediately set to work on getting Jim accustomed to being in similar spaces to the kennel he would be travelling in, the noises, crowd work, the list goes on and on! All the while she was raising puppies. I don't think she slept a wink.

When the time came for me to get Jim, he was amazing in every sense of the word. We spent a day doing some work, showing him that Vicky trusted me and he took it all on board. He went down to London on the train, navigated Euston Station like a pro, and hopped out of the plane, ready to sniff out his new island home.

All of the early work that Vicky does with the puppies truly pays off; Jim is the most adaptable, loving, and cheeky boy. One of the first things that Vicky said to me was that she had initially chosen him as a therapy dog. He naturally gravitates towards a younger family member with ADHD, and it's truly remarkable how he instinctively knows to play in a way that I don't see with anyone else. He is a beautiful mix of Honey and Diesel, both in looks and personality.

It has only been a month and I cannot imagine my life without him. I can't thank Vicky and Mike enough for trusting me with one of their beautiful pups and for all the hard-work, time, and love that they put into him throughout different stages of his life. I have a lifetime of joy and laughs ahead of me with Jim."

“I had been in contact with Vicky at Nook on Lyne Labradors since early in the year as my life circumstances had finally come together to allow me to take on my first puppy. I had grown up with dogs and my mum always had labs, but this would be the first one that I would bring up! After filling out a form showing my interest in getting a puppy from Nook on Lyne and a long and both very productive and informative video call I was put on the waiting list for one of their puppies. I was lucky and when Watson was born I received a phone call to let me know that I could have one of Ebony's litter - a black boy.
Vicky and her husband Mike do everything possible to ensure that the parents are in the best of health and tested against numerous hereditary diseases, they are fed the best food and live in a loving home. All the things that were important for me in choosing them as the breeders of my dog.
The time before Watson came home with me was filled with preparation and learning what to expect and I got regular updates during the pregnancy and after birth so I was able to see the wonderful environment the puppies were being brought up in. I was beside myself with excitement and a little nervous about how my life was about to change.
Vicky asked lots of questions about what kind of dog I wanted - I don't think I was very helpful, not on purpose, but I found it hard to verbalise. I knew I wanted a puppy that was good with people and that was sufficiently independent to let me get on with my work... Despite my lack of clarity Vicky chose the perfect puppy for me and since I picked Watson up 3 weeks ago he has been an utter joy. Due to his early exposure to a variety of smells and then sounds, plus the loving care and attention he got from his wonderful mum, Ebony as well as Vicky and Mike, almost nothing phases him and he is happy to meet each and every human - and dogs too! His absolute favourite though, is my siamese cat, Chai who he adores!
I can't recommend Vicky and Mike enough as breeders, if you are interested in knowing that your pup comes from an excellent, ethical home and you want a well-balanced and healthy puppy.”

It is extremely sad when pets are not given the vital attention and training they need as youngsters in order to thrive. This is often as a result of a change of circumstances for new owners. We have a duty of care to all of our puppies and as such we requested that Jim a 9 month old Fox Red Labrador was returned to us. He is the double of his Dad Diesel in both looks and personality and has taken the move back to us extremely well like he’s never been away. He is walking nicely on the lead to heel, has excellent recall, sit, stay, down, travels nicely in the car, takes himself off to his crate at bedtime and he’s fully house trained. We took him for a trip to an unfamiliar busy outdoor shopping centre yesterday for crowd training and he was an absolute dream and walked to heel beautifully the whole time. Jim is proving to be a biddable boy who is eager to learn and eager to please.
