Let’s normalise muzzle wearing!
Over the next few days/weeks and months we will all encounter more dogs than we’ve ever seen being forced to wear a muzzle because of how they look.
But many dogs wear muzzles for many reasons and people need to let go of the stigma attached to them.
Muzzles aren’t bad! Muzzles can literally save lives. In the case of XL bullies, no muzzle means the dog will be seized and a fight to get back if at all….
Other reasons any dog can wear a muzzle could be because they resource guard and it keeps them from picking things up. They could be scavengers and eat everything in their path leading to potential sickness, poisoning and blockages. Or maybe they are reactive or a bite risk…. But that’s ok too! That means the owner is being the best owner they can and keeping their dog and others safe whilst letting them enjoy a walk too.
So, when we come across a muzzled dog, please don’t stare or try to shame the owner. Maybe talk to them, ask questions and if allowed, tell that dog they are a good boy/girl and give them a fuss, because they have likely just come from a world full of other doggo friends, to one where they are no longer allowed to even walk with one anymore 😞
Normalise muzzles now. Break the stigma.
