The beautiful Poppy who was Hops' first legacy user to try it out, now has her own buggy so she can go everywhere with her furry friends & her mummy and daddy. The reason I lend it out for this purpose is because not every dog will take to using a buggy, and they can be costly, (although Poppy's was a bargain price), but there are things you can do to help them get used to it. There were no such problems with Poppy as she jumped in happily when I delivered it. Her humans though did find that the handle on Hops' buggy was a bit low for them, so trying a buggy out can help you know what to look out for when purchasing one. Due to Hops only having 3 legs and how he sat in his bugs, I could have done with a 4 wheel one for stability! Don't forget bugs is free to borrow, (although donations to animal rescue cymru and/or Carmarthenshire Therapy Dogs in Hops' name are welcome) to try out for older dogs; for dogs following surgery or with and illness; and as long as vets ok it, for one last trip out.

Today would have been Hops' 12th birthday. I've been staying at our favourite place for a fortnight so I had a walk down the river to our favourite spot with his bugs to take a better picture. Hops' bugs is available to borrow free (although donations to animal rescue cymru &/or Carmarthenshire Therapy Dogs are welcomed in Hops' name) for an elderly dog up to 10kg to try out, or a dog who's had surgery. The items on the bench are also included for owners who borrow it for 1 last trip before their beloved dog is put to sleep (if the vet agrees). They're things I could have done with. I haven't yet managed to make posters to go in vets, Bailey's etc as my lap top is broken so relying on FB at the moment to get the word out and about.

I am not the most digitally minded & was off FB for a few years & it changed a lot in that time. Only just worked out how to share posts from other pages to this page! Christmas & New Year has been, understandably tough, living alone & losing my beautiful boy so suddenly.
I do okish when with others, but the rest of the time still can't stop crying, although this has started me writing poetry again. I'm going to go out today & have a drive where it's safe, & clear my head a bit. Then I need to get Hops' Legacy up & running properly. So my plan of action is!
1. I've ordered a few paw print kits to be going on with to go in last trip out care packs. I need to find out what heat pad the vet had to order one of those.
2. Get an A4 poster made. I know Bailey's, & Carmarthen veterinary centre have already said they will put one up but speak to others & maybe talk to practice managers to ensure vets are aware of this so that others can share those special last few hours Hops & I had and will treasure. Vets will be able to ring me to arrange drop off/pick up, I just don't want to be giving my number to everyone, but others can message me on the page.
3. I have everything else for a care pack for the time being as I've kept the things I thought would be needed out of Hops' things, but I need to write a short simple note to explain what's in there & why that I learnt from Hops' passing (mainly my friends car, my clothes, & paw prints).
4. Look at doggy events coming up in Carmarthenshire, so that more people know about it & hopefully more furry friends & their owners can benefit from Hops' Legacy.
5. In time I would love to get at least 1 bigger buggy initially for dogs over 10kg, so maybe some fundraising for this, but if anyone knows of one going cheap, please let me know. I'm funding things myself, but am on a very limited income.

This made me genuinely smile for the first time in a fortnight. Poppy, Hops' 1st legacy user seeing if at 13 years young she'd like a buggy. She did exactly what Hops did and sat comfy in bugs watching the world go by.

So Friday I took Hops' Christmas treats back to Bailey's dog cafe just after dropping his bugs off to his first legacy user so he could share them with his furry friends. He had his 1st and sadly last, photo shoot at Bailey's just 7 days before he had to cross the 🌈 bridge. I will be for ever grateful to the ladies at Bailey's the day I bought him in to pick his present up & to suddenly say goodbye, both to me & Hops, & their memorial & support since. I went in on Friday to tell them about his legacy, & they were so supportive. Bless them x

The beautiful little Poppy is the first furbaby to borrow Hops' bugs to see how she gets on with one. Judging by her jumping in herself, I think she'll be fine!

Hops was my lovely 3 legged dog, who in the last year of his life had a buggy so that we could go on more walks & do more things with eachother. The buggy was more for me than him, as he'd always sat down on walks from a young age if he felt he hadn't had enough fuss, & with chronic arthritis I couldn't carry him anymore. It did help him though and we went on far longer walks we would have struggled with, & day trips out we couldn't have done without bugs & he loved being Captain Hops in his bugs, watching the world. He did so much in those 10 months, camping trips, holiday in a caravan, day at Llanelli Pride, went to Cardiff for shopping, dinner, pub to see a drag act & a night in a posh hotel, loads of trips to Bailey's cafe, plus lots of other walks.
Hops suddenly had to be PTS at the beginning of December 23, when nerves in his back leg on the same side as his missing one went. As we had bugs, he had a long lasting painkiller & I was able to take him out one last time to his favourite places, & for others to say goodbye. He went to Bailey's cafe in Carmarthen & my aunties caravan site. He knew exactly where he was going because he was pushing up to look out of the window. When we got there we walked along the river & took some pictures including one in the same place we had our 1st picture. It meant he had the best possible last day I could have given him, which is a comfort to me, and I know he enjoyed.
Hops was always helping others, right up to when he crossed the rainbow bridge. He'd helped me deal with agoraphobia & panic attacks; he worked as a therapy dog with Carmartheshire Therapy Dogs on the stroke ward at Glangwili, & went to the children's ward on Christmas Eve in 2019 & helped many others in his life when they needed some comfort. On return to the vets another dog was having to be put to sleep & I said to one of Poppy's owners that Hops' was an older dog & would take Poppy over the bridge with him. He brought comfort to Poppy's owners as well.
So, I don't want Hops to stop helping others, & one way he can, is by loaning his buggy to others who need it so they can do the things he was able to do. His buggy can be borrowed for an elderly dog to try out before buying one; by a dog needing some recuperation time after an operation; or as an emergency for a dog who has to be put to sleep but is able to have a long lasting painkiller to go to their favourite place one last time if the vet agrees. For dogs being PTS there will be a cushion, blanket, heat pad, paw print kit, treats & water etc so that everything is there & owners don't need to think of anything at the stressful time. I live town centre so I can either drop the buggy off at Carmarthen Vets, to your home or if I'm unable to, it can be collected from me. Loan of Hops' buggy is free, however if you are able to, a donation to Animal Rescue Cymru and/or Carmarthenshire Therapy Dogs in Hops' name would be lovely. I adopted Hops from ARC in 2013. I would appreciate it, if you feel able to, if you could add a pic of your dog in bugs to the album as part of Hops Legacy, as it will bring me comfort to see him still helping others, but absolutely no obligation to do so. I can either add you as a contributor so you can put your own comment on the photo, or you can message me, & I'll put the picture up. Hops' buggy is suitable for dogs up to 10kg.
