Before and after Roux's hind foot trim today ♡
His frogs are starting to shed a little. I removed the loose pieces making it easier for his owner to clean and make sure nothing gets stuck in there.
He has very neat little feat 😍 we're just working on helping the back part of the foot develop more 🤗

She had laminitis about 4 years ago, and when I started trimming her feet last year she hadn't been receiving regular hoofcare...which really showed in her feet.

I'm really impressed with how they look today so will try and get some progress photos to compare next time I see her :)

Today I had a re-stock of redhorse products, gave Domino a nice pedicure, went on a very frosty doggy walk, and put some hay out for the field horses ♡

Lots of positive changes for Colin since the top photos in July. His white foot had low heels..and his black foot had high heels - both making a smaller surface area for him to walk on. In the bottom photos they are both changing to meet somewhere in the middle. The quality of the hoofwall is a lot better as well 👏

Two new clients this week 🧡

Beautiful big clydesdale X shire who has lovely feet. Just a bit of thrush to get under control so his owner has some homework to treat that. But otherwise very healthy and happy :)

And a sweet little grey Connie. Also has lovely feet - but some medial imbalance to both fronts so I've made her a photo album and hopefully we will see some positive changes with time ♡

Any advice worth taking, ESPECIALLY on hoof balance and trim quality, will not be given on line via pictures. Even if a fancy mark up App is used.

You need to see the whole picture.

You need to put your hands on that horse, watch it move, assess its environment, build a relationship with the owner and understand what they ‘want’ from the horse and are able to provide.

This job (when done properly) really isn’t as straight forward as people may think.

As an interesting example, when assessing Hoof Pastern Axis (which is just one of MANY things we assess when adjusting hoof balance) how the horse is stood will have a huge impact on what an x ray or photograph will show.

These 2 x rays below show 2 very different stories when it comes to HPA. What happened in between these X-rays…..we adjusted how he was stood!!

This TB had her shoes off about 5 weeks ago. The fronts are a little underrun and some huge event lines that should grow out soon. There was some thrush as well which we treated, and a big abscess hole in one of the hinds. But on the whole the feet look pretty good. Excited to see the changes over the coming months 🙌

Before and afters on the hinds of this morning's new client, Santi.

She has pretty decent feet, but there's a thrush issue in the central sulcus and between the heels bulbs on all 4. So her owner has some homework to flush out the area each day to keep it clean and kill any bacteria.
With the feet balanced and on a 4 week trim cycle this should clear up in no time 🙏🙌

The health of their feet has improved SO much since the last time...and so has their behaviour/anxiety.

Hats off to their owners for putting in the work between trims so they don't find it as difficult or scary 🥰

Star is a new client who currently has front shoes on, but has to be sedated each time as she is so terrified of anything that might resemble a farrier!

Her owner wants to take her barefoot, so I went today to meet them both - for Star to meet me without anything stressful happening, and to formulate a plan.

She is certainly very suspicious, and anxious about what could happen to her :( she even spooked at the lickit I'd offered for us to make friends 🙈
I did some groundwork with her and managed to pick up all her feet and trim the bars. So I think we will be able to get there with her eventually...slow and steady 🙏💓

I left her owner with an old rasp to try and get her used to the tools, and she's going to look more into hoofboots so we have them ready for when her front shoes come off ♡♡

Pedicure for Locki this morning ♡

I spent the last 2 days at the @epa_uk annual conference 👌 I drove up to Milton Keynes with Pepper on Monday night and settled into the air bnb. Got up early the next day to walk Pepper and then she stayed in our room while I went to the first part of the conference. Checked on her at lunchtime and she was happily sleeping 😄 There were talks from such interesting professionals in the world of horse health and wellbeing - with the focus on working together to solve issues from a 'whole horse' perspective. I learned so much, and it was beneficial to be amongst so many EP's and hearing their thoughts on certain topics. We got a goody bag from @finerforage .... and I won a prize of @redhorseproducts1 in the raffle 😍 Lots of beautiful walks with Pepper down the canal tow path and across the gorgeous countryside, plus a very tasty gnocci dinner at the local pub. Thank you for having me EPA! It was very much worth the trip, and I hope to make it next year too :)
