when I started breeding sharpei 28 years ago. they lived if you were lucky untill about 8. Good breeders only bred from healthy dogs with out social issues. we worked hard to improve the breed. Bear coats or dogs with a coat longer than 1 " was not breed standard must not be bred from at all. also they should be of a solid colour no patches of another colour at all. only the typical darker shade

that runs down the back. these also not breed standard. we had been told not to breed from these dogs. only to sell them at a minimum amount without papers or papers endorced not to be bred from. how times have changed. these dogs now called flowered or bears are beautiful. my bear Harvey was stunning. we have dogs that have lived until 18. how wonderful. I am very proud to have been amongst the great breeders who achieved the change.
