This has probably been covered before.
I am on a yard where worming is mandatory December/January time.
It will be pramox that my boy will be having so I need to do as much as I can to limit the damage it’s going to cause him.
What’s everyone’s routine they do before and after
Would feeding nexium (loading up and staying on it for a bit) help?
Thanks!

With her own pony at home, and countless ponies at work who need riding, I did feel a little fleeced to pay £2 for a pony ride 😂 (especially as Oliver was going through tokens at a rate of knots on the quad bikes, if only he had one of those at home too 😂😉) Talk about a Busman's Holiday, but I feel truly sorry for the poor chap who Verity befriended who led her pony ride, as he heard all about how she is basically an olympic rider with her Shetland, who don't you know, is a Shetland Grand National Pony (she failed to mention the part about her not actually being the jockey for his racing) and wattled on about various elements of her riding career highlights in the 5 min loop around their track. On her return she declared that she thought it might be possible to do a couple of jumps and wondered aloud, rather aloud at that, why she wasn't given reins and stirrups. But the true highlight was a couple of hours later as we were leaving, and she shouts out a fond farewell by name to the chap who was leading her as she spots him across the stableyard, bless him, he did give her a wave and a smile!

NICOLA WILSON AWARDED MBE IN NEW YEAR HONOURS Delish Diary

When we think of greatness, we often associate it with individuals who have an innate ability to surpass all others. We mention qualities like consistency, mental toughness, success and excellence.

While it’s true that Nicola embodies all of these traits, they don’t fully define her. Her strength and determination are immeasurable. Continuing to serve our sport with an unwavering passion and enthusiasm, she inspires those around her and through her coaching she paves the way for future talent.

Nicola is always the first to greet you with a hug and a smile and you can count on her to be front row to cheer on a teammate. Her greatness will always be linked to her courage and resilience.

We celebrate her extraordinary achievements, express gratitude for her guidance, and admire a truly remarkable woman who has made a lasting positive impact and carved her legacy in our sport.

The pony equivalent to the Naughty Step, having to stand in the middle of the arena 😂 by Delish Diary
The last two pony club rallies Blue has accidentally torpedoed Verity off. The first time he bounced around on the lunge prior to the lesson and I thought I had got all the energy out of him, but he then went with the pony classic of dropping the shoulder at the far end of the arena and Verity went out of the side door.
So in preparation for today, he had his fast hack yesterday, and then seemed quiet and angelic on the lunge, so I was feeling positive..... The lesson was a little more advanced, with the whole ride trotting together and setting quite the pace, Blue decided it was all far too exciting so opted to celebrate by bucking and leaping his heart out at the back of the ride. They kept it going for a little while and then eventually he let out a huge buck and Verity took to the skies! Looking at other posts on Facebook it seems like it is National Bucking Day today as everyone seems to have the wind up their tails

Help please ulcer hive!
My horse was imported from Spain early June, he appeared to settle reasonably well, had a bit of inner anxiety, bit buzzy to ride, but a baby at 4 and definitely not a plodding type
Anyway was happily hacking (as far as to say he was best horse I've ever had to hack! Brave, sensible, happy exploring) bit tense in school
Roll on Aug, ears starting to come back more than I thought was 'normal' in paces over trot, not all the time, but some of it....
Gradually got worse, including 1 occasion of bucking when asked for canter (put that down to a baby) then started planting, coming right back to the leg aid...
Scoped, grade 3 ulcers, especially bad in pyloric area
4 week gastroguard and the sulpracate powder that I know I've spelt wrong 🤣
Rescoped, most gone, the bad one looked white, healing, still a small amount of inflammation
Vet advised bring back into work, gentle hacking commenced after a week of longlines/lunges
3 more weeks gastroguard, still to this day on the powder
Gradually not happy, up and down ridden, one day ok, next very backwards ( this is actually quite a forward buzzy horse so when he doesn't want to go it's out of character) tense, tensing body as tack comes, not enjoying being touched all over (before he was very tactile)
Vet was due before Christmas but ran out of time, so now awaiting reply for when he can come...
How long do these things tend to hang about for?
Diet thunderbrooks healthy herbal, thunderbrooks grass nuts, blue chip ulcer cool balancer, protexin acid ease, sulpracate (sorry wrong spell)
Plenty of hay, not the happiest in field when weather bad, so goes out with hay, comes in when fed up.... yard not tight with hay, I regularly go down at 10pm and plenty left
Likely to still have issues or pain memory?
The little quirks i could easily put down to a baby horse in winter, it's the unhappy/angry feeling I get that makes me wonder
Other ways to help?
Experienced owner, qualified coach, but first ulcer horse I've had and I'm on a steep learning curve!!!
Pics of the rebel ✨️ as you can see, ulcers haven't upset his weight 🤣 he has got fatter !
Edited to add full lameness work up done before scope, full xrays june

I’ve got a gelding who has been managed for two years with a UV mask. Now suddenly he he is super sensitive around his face (Anywhere- nose, head, ears, etc). If you touch him, he’ll head shake and he gets nervous when you get around his head. UTD on teeth, no change in hay, and he already gets mag, vE, and amino acids (he’s also pssm). Any thoughts on why the sudden change? It’s been about two months and not getting better. Pls help

Bit of a rant coming up. by Delish Diary

Points to ponder for 2025 and a reflection on 2024

Watching my favourite and enjoyable sport of National Hunt racing on Boxing Day I saw one of our most respected jockeys riding one of the best National Hunt hurdlers over the last couple of years, with a 15 length lead riding a finish, hitting his horse quite hard three times obviously in his excitement to win a group one race.but sadly oblivious of the impact this might have.on the general viewing public. (I am aware of the hitting rule)

Now I am no goody two shoes never have been and probably never will be, but I am really trying to understand horses better, how they think, how they work, how they react and trying to become a better teacher, trainer and coach. The use of any unnecessary abuse and as has been pointed out on countless occasions, any abuse is unnecessary and must be condemned by people like me and every involved competitor, coach, trainer, steward and judge.

If all the riders in competition rode with no whips and blunt spas, it would be a level playing field.

Neither am I a dreamer. I understand that from time to time horses do need reprimanding but we must balance this against public opinion because public opinion will kill our horse sport unless we take away the arrogance or even perceived arrogance of people connected with horse sport we will never move on.

I am delighted that riders are now interviewed in a very much better light than they used to be. I was very impressed with some of our Olympic gold medalists being interviewed at the London horse show, they came across as very intelligent and very thoughtful as of course they are but also when riders like Marcus Ehning has four fences down in a major competition, smiles ironically and pats his horse as he came out of the arena with no hint of anger or disappointment it speaks volumes to young riders.
A picture paints a 1000 words.

Another practice which needs to be stamped out if it possibly can be.
Publishing and posting on social media ridiculous videos of people being run away with, falling or being violently bucked off and dragging riders about. Stressed out and anxious horses running into fences, crashing through barriers, being tied up to a post bucking until ltheir poor hearts must break. It’s the most ridiculous of human activities on social media and in general to laugh at the misfortunes of others both human and equine.
Unfortunately we are all tarred the same brush, if some mindless cowboy is beating and raking his poor horse with spurs everybody who rides is perceived to be that cowboy.
Silly people jumping fences when they are clearly not capable, unbalanced or just plain stupid gives the non horsey general public the idea that everybody who jumps horses is that ridiculous person.
Well, I think I’ve made my point and I’m sorry to go on so much about it but it does need serious consideration from all of us involved in the Equestrian world either professional or amateur.
Thank you for reading and a happy, thoughtful and prosperous New Year to everybody Ernest

Many congratulations to Nicola Wilson who has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list today. by Delish Diary

A deserving recipient, if ever there was one. Nicola’s success in the sport of eventing has been vast, from Olympic medals, countless successes at the top level and a European Championship individual title in 2021, but her journey since her accident in 2022 has been extraordinary.

Nicola has battled adversity with huge positivity, courage and strength. Not only has she been resilient in her approach to her own injuries, but her generosity of spirit has been demonstrated far and wide, as she continues to provide a beacon of hope and guidance for others who are experiencing similar situations.
We are so glad that Nicola remains a significant part of eventing in so many ways, she is one of the smiliest faces to be seen on the circuit, always enthusiastic and always encouraging.

The words ‘inspiration’ and ‘legend’ are used all too frequently, but they truly are words to describe Nicola. We are absolutely delighted for Nicola, Alastair and their families to have received this honour - it is richly deserved.
