Now that we have gone through all of the basic elements for Scentwork UK we will move from daily videos to periodic posts and videos. Do continue to ask any questions you have and share your videos with us. I just love following and being a part of all of your journeys. It can be difficult for me to see the new comments in older posts so if you tag me Jenny Richards in the comment it will help me find it quickly. Thanks, and good luck with your doggie journeys...whatever they may be 😊 Another photo of handsome Alfred just because ☺️

DAY 28 - NOTES ON THINGS TO START DOING AT THIS STAGE… πŸ‘Š

1) Set up your search area and incrementally start to leave the amount of time that you leave it set up before starting to work it with your dog. At a Scentwork competition if you are drawn last it could take between 30 – 60 mins (maybe even longer) before you get your turn in the search area. You need to prepare your dog for the sent being left out this long before you work it. Don’t be tempted to jump from 2 mins straight to 45. Build this up slowly to give your dog confidence to be successful with this new criteria.

2) Start another jar of cloves and put less in than the recommended amount, maybe 4/5. It is good practice to check this box. It always makes sense to train hard and trial easy. I will always train my dogs to be able to do more of them than is required on competition day. There will be all other sorts of factors that come into play on competition day such as nerves and stress and other factors out of our control. I don’t want to be asking my dog to perform the most difficult criteria on this day. I like it to be slightly easier than the top end of training. This is simply setting the dog up for success. When you do the less scented articles for the first time go back a few levels with the search and give your dog an easy search area to set them up for success. Then when they have proved they can identify the scent in an easier search start upping the level of difficulty.

3) Similarly to above start to incorporate more difficult articles into your clove pot to use in the search. You can use materials that don’t hold the scent as easily (where the particles in the items are closer together) such as post-it notes and things made of plastic.

HAPPY TRAINING 🌟

DAY 26A - INCREASING THE DIFFICULTY OF THE SEARCH πŸ’₯
Today's video comes in 5 parts (thanks to my lack in technology merging type things!) So there is an A,B,C,D and E. Do watch them in order and fingers crossed FB doesn't have a meltdown half way through me posting them 🀞

DAY 24 - ASKING FOR MORE INDICATION WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE SEARCH πŸ’₯
Apologies, here is yesterdays video finally uploaded with the help of youtube! https://youtu.be/IPZQWYyoVsg

02/02/2021

Im afraid that FB and I are having a disagreement again and he won’t upload my video for you today ☹️ I am worried there may be something wrong with the video and I will need to re shoot! Will try to upload again in the morning and failing that do a re take.... apologies guys this technology malarkey is definitely not my strong point... πŸ€”πŸ₯Ί

DAY 23 - BEING MINDFUL TO CHANGE ENVIRONMENTS AND WORK THE HEIGHTS YOUR DOG IS LESS INCLINED TO CHECK πŸ˜ƒ
It is now really important to get the dog used to working in lots of different environments/rooms. We also want to observe the way our dogs are searching and start hiding the scent in the places/heights they arenot searching as well in order to encourage a more thourough search 😁

31/01/2021

DAY 22 - WORKING ON DIFFERENT HEIGHTS AND DEALING WITH ACCIDENTAL SCENT CONTAMINATION πŸ€”πŸ™ƒ

30/01/2021

DAY 21 - CONTINUING TO WORK ON FINDING THE NAKED CLOVE ARTICLE πŸ™ƒ
Easier environemtn this time πŸ˜‰

29/01/2021

DAY 20 - WORKING ON THE SCENTED ARTICLE NAKED WITHOUT A CARRIER πŸ’₯
It is now really important to make sure that the dogs can find the scent without it being in a container. We will have to be careful about contamination of the scent on our search area here πŸ™ƒ

28/01/2021

DAY 19 - CHANGING IT UP AND TAKING OUR SEARCH OUT ON THE ROAD (PART 1) 🌳
Today we took our search out on the road! Asking him to search an outside area brings a whole load of new considerations into play. I asked a lot of Alfred today and he did struggle! Lots of little tips on how to help the dog out and keep working through the problem when increasing the difficulty. This Part 1... there will be a Part 2 today πŸ˜‰
* Apologies if sound quality is not great, it is a very windy day and I am quite new to this filming malarky! If you struggle to hear anything and want me to clarify please do ask πŸ˜‰

27/01/2021

DAY 18 - BONUS VIDEO - IS YOUR DOG STRUGGLING TO UNDERSTAND THE SEARCH CONCEPT? πŸ€―πŸ€”
If your dog is struggling to get to grips with the concept of the search here is a fun way to explain it to them. Also just a really fun game to play with our dogs full stop.! πŸ€“πŸ˜€

26/01/2021

DAY 17 - CHANGING UP THE SEARCH AREA 🌟
We need to move on from using shoes now or the dogs are going to think it is all about shoes.... 😁

25/01/2021

DAY 16 - INCORPORATING OUR PROOFING INTO THE SEARCH πŸ’₯
Just because we've taught the indication proofing out of context of the search it doesn't mean it is going to instantly translate into the search... but we will be able to move through the stages much quicker because we spent the time explaining it out of context 😊

24/01/2021

Hi guys, we will be missing a day out today I’m afraid. Alfred had a rather full on day and managed to go flying whilst chasing his sister in the snow! He is feeling a little worse for wear this evening after his tumble so I am going to give him a day off. Did you get out and have adventures in the snow today? Hopefully more successful than ours πŸ™‰πŸ™ƒ Show us your snow pics β˜ƒοΈβ„οΈβ›„οΈ

23/01/2021

DAY 15 - REVISITING MY NOSE TARGET πŸ’₯
It is so important to keep revisiting our indication behaviour out of the context of the search as well as in. Whenever we are combining the indication with the search the dog is being rewarded for the entire chain of behaviour includung the search. We can only really work on the strength of our indication by isolating it and working on it away from the search. Then we can put it back in the search and can expect it to be better and ask more of the dog in this context. Happy proofing 😁πŸ’ͺ

22/01/2021

DAY 14 - PUTTING THE SEARCH ON CUE 🌟
Today I feel like Alfie has enough understanding of....
A) The search behaviour
B) The fact he is looking for the scent of cloves
C) To perform a nose target when he finds the cloves
So I think I am ready to put my search on cue πŸ˜€πŸ’₯πŸ‘Š

21/01/2021

DAY 13 - TESTING IF MY DOG UNDERSTANDS THE SEARCH πŸ’₯
Today is test day - does my dog understand the searching behaviour and the nose target behaviour??? πŸ™ƒ

20/01/2021

DAY 12 - CHANGING THE VEHICLE THE SCENTED ARTICLE IS IN AND CHANGING UP THE SEARCH AREA πŸ˜€
I encoutered my retrieve problem again in this session so after the session I did another training to isolate my problem out of the search context. This additional training session will be posted in the comments below this video πŸ™ƒ

19/01/2021

DAY 11 - INCREASING DURATION OF NOSE TARGET ON AN EASY SEARCH 🌟

18/01/2021

DAY 10 - CONTINUING TO EXPLAIN THE SEARCH AND I ENCOUNTER A RETRIEVE PROBLEM πŸ€”
