So today was my last day running Mel's Mutts. My final walk was with dear Fergal, such a sweet gentle boy. I'm going to miss him and all the doggie friends I've made over the last 5 years. I've thoroughly enjoyed running my own business and being outside everyday has been a dream . Now Cornwall beckons and long walks on the beach with my own dogs. Good luck to all my customers and their dogs and to my followers on social media may you all continue to have long enjoyable walks with your best friend. 🐕‍🦺🐕🐶🐩🐕‍🦺🐕🐶🐩

In September 2017 I set up Mel’s Mutts, my own dog walking business. It was a huge change from my previous job as a teaching assistant which I had done for 13 years.
I knew my love of dogs and being outside would make it enjoyable and fun.
Move on 5 years and my husband Michael and I are moving from the Cotswolds to Cornwall, so Mel’s Mutts will be winding down., temporarily or permanently? Who knows, we will see where life takes us.

Over the years I’ve had a great time walking over 40 different dogs. I’ve played with 8 week old puppies and had the honour of taking dear old dogs on their final walks.
I’ve been soaked to the skin, had frozen feet and hands, skidded around in snow, ice and mud and melted in heatwaves.
Mel’s Mutts survived the Covid lockdowns.
I’ve had leads break on me, thankfully only one slipped collar and been pulled over a few times. The one sided conversations Ive had with your dogs have been interesting but they proved to be great listeners.
Over the years I have had knee, ankle, shoulder and elbow injuries but I wouldn’t have changed any of it. My human customers have been brilliant, I can’t thank them enough and it has been a privilege to be trusted with your fur babies. I’ve loved all your dogs, each with their own individual personality .
I’ve walked pedigrees, crossbreeds and mutts, a retired greyhound, rescues from the U.K , Spain and Ireland. Walking a completely deaf dog was interesting but he did manage off lead walks.
The most popular breed has been Labradors (9) and the most common name is ,Luna.
I’m going to miss them all, but as my business is slowly wound down and I move onto my next adventure, I will cherish all the memories I have made with those dogs.
I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support over the years.
Please keep intouch and send me pictures of your pups on their next adventures.

* I will be posting pictures of most of the dogs I have worked with over the next few days . Can you spot yours?

If your dog pulls, a harness is a much better option than just a collar and lead.

Please keep your dogs out of Rapeseed fields.

Please keep your dogs out of Rapeseed fields.

❌ RAPESEED! ❌

It’s that time of year again where farmers fields have blossomed into pretty yellow flowers, these plants are called rapeseed. Although it may be tempting to place your dog in the mist to take a scenic photo, please avoid this at all costs!

Rapeseed is extremely poisonous for dogs, especially in highly sensitive canines.

Rapeseed is listed by Dogs Trust as toxic to our dogs if ingested and can cause symptoms such as:

❌ Hemolytic Anemia
❌ Blindness
❌ Damaged Nervous System
❌ Digestive Disorders
❌ Breathing Problems

Even walking through these fields should be avoided! In June 2019, a dog has been reported to suffer from severe open wounds after running through a crop of rapeseed.

Please seek immediate veterinary attention if your dog shows any signs of rapeseed poisoning!
