🐾 Why does chronic pain have an affect on behaviour and how can this effect grooming..? 🐾

The emotion of pain is a form of fear- anxiety and it can directly affect your dogs behaviour. If your dog is in chronic pain he/she may show avoidance behaviour and try to keep distance from anything that it fears may cause further pain ( your groomer)

This may lead your dog to be generally less social with the groomer and May struggle to follow our tasks in the salon that would normally be easy (jumping up into bath/ table as usual or standing ) Your dog may show signs of stress due to the pain and react to certain areas being touched.

Due to my extensive education on Canine behaviour I am able to recognise some of the signs your dog may show me that they are in pain. If your dog is quieter than usual some groomers may misinterpret this as being relaxed and push the dog further, the dog may even snap/ bite if the pain is unbearable.

I examine your dog on every visit and will make you aware of any changes that you may not notice at home. I have sent many clients to the vets with their dogs due to changes I have noticed and on most occasions this has helped the dog be diagnosed or treated.

I feel so so lucky that my books are currently full of regular clients now so that I know your dogs behaviour, emotional needs and general health issues and this is one of the reasons I do not accept dogs that are not on a schedule with me.

💡 FACT 💡
One of the most important parts of your dogs you should focus on and check regularly is their TEETH. If your dog has bad teeth this can cause so many issues internally. Remember your dog may not show any signs of pain in this area ( just because they eat does not mean their teeth are ok!) so can go on untreated for months, even years!

I am utterly appalled and disgusted with the recent story regarding the murder of Atlas the Golden Doodle in a grooming establishment in Oklahoma.

With the HUGE increase of wasps this month I thought I would share some information on what to look for….

🐝SIGNS THAT YOUR DOG HAS BEEN STUNG BY A BEE/ WASP 🐝

- Biting or giving attention to the place they have been stung
- Whining
- Swelling in a specific area
- Holding up the affected area e.g. their paw
- Pawing at the affected area

🐝 SIGNS OF AN ALLERGIC REACTION WHEN YOUR DOG IS STUNG BY A BEE OR WASP 🐝

- Vomiting
- Rapid breathing or difficulty breathing
- Weakness or collapsing
- Pale gums
- Diarrhoea
- Excessive swelling around the sting and spreading away from it

‼️If you see any of the above signs of a reaction to / sting - take to the vets asap.. if they are stung in the mouth I would recommend vets also.. as this can be very dangerous quickly if they have a reaction that then effects throat / breathing ‼️
