It's 16 years today since I graduated from university with a 2:1 Bsc(hons) in Applied Animal Behaviour and Training.
At the time qualifications in behaviour and training were quite rare and the course I did was quite innovative. Whilst educating us on all types of training techniques, it only promoted modern, positive techniques based on learning theory and reward. The world of dog behaviour and training is constantly developing and as a trainer it's important to keep up with this.
Since finishing uni I have worked constantly with dogs, worked for a few rescues and with several hundred pet dogs and their owners on an unbelievable range of behaviours.
Nowadays, behaviour and dog training qualifications are quite easy to come by. You can sign up to courses online where you can get a qualification without even having to interact with a dog. I would never belittle anyone's qualification or experience but it's important owners do their research, not all dog trainers are the same 😊

Lovely rescue pup, Cookie, has completed the Perfect-a-puppy course 🎉🎉🎉
She didn't have the best start in life and missed out on early socialisation but her new owners have done a fantastic job with her and she is making up for lost time.

The sun shone for us this afternoon for a group puppy session at our field. These 3 pups had the chance to socialise and put into to practice some of the skills they learned on the perfect-a-puppy course. Dogs and humans all did fantastic!

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all our customers from 2022.

I'd like to introduce our newest team member, Maeve, who arrived back in July (where has that time gone?!) As you can see, Ember and Maeve are the best of friends 😂.

All being well I'll be back for training and behaviour sessions from Easter.

Just a quick update for those who haven't seen me in a while..... Im having a human baby in July and will be having some time off from training and behaviour. Hoping to work until early July then I'll most likely return to work around Easter next year. Ember and I are very excited that the days are lengthening and we cannot wait to get out and about on those long summer evenings. Now's the perfect time to work on your general training so when summer gets here you can enjoy days at the beach, walks in the countryside or maybe an afternoon at the pub together. I can help with loose lead training, recall, general doggy "manners" or getting them to behave appropriately in busy places. Poor quality video (I was concentrating on my dog) but here is Ember doing her loose lead walking. It's still not perfect but it hasn't been easy for Ember. Like a lot of young dogs, Ember can get easily over stimulated by the outside world. She also has some noise phobias and is generally quite sensitive by nature so although she knows how to walk to heel she struggles when you add in distractions and just cannot concentrate. For a lot of dogs loose lead walking is more about learning to deal with their environment than to learn how to walk nicely. We've both been very frustrated at times but persistency and consistency is paying off. She's much happier and confident now and consequently can walk happily and confidently next to me (mostly!!) 🙂🙂🙂
