Backlog Post 🫣

Danu the Mother of the Tuatha DΓ© Danann was released back into her large Allotment last weekend after passing all of her poo tests and being fattened up considerably.

She came in at 721g and left at 1001g

This is her vanishing back into the Compost Area where she was found last month.

Another happy release β€οΈπŸ™πŸ¦”πŸŒΏ

Poor Mabel who is already suffering from a high burden of Lungworm larvae has now tested positive for Intestinal Fluke πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Fluke makes Hedgehogs extremely restless and uncomfortable and they dig up their nest, 'climb the walls' etc.

This is her from a couple of days ago, her treatment has begun but it's now a race for the medication to take control of the parasites πŸ™πŸ€žπŸ¦”

'Feets don't fail me now'

Peter AKA Sir Trenchalot is making steady progress with his badly damaged feet and will shortly complete his second round of antibiotics.

We can see a good improvement but will be submitting photos to our Vet to see if they are also happy.

Peter is also putting in weight nicely now βœ…πŸ¦”

Hettie from Clipston is responding well to her Treatment Plan and also loves her food.

As she's a ' Country' Hedgehog she's also very shy and doesn't like any noise at all (she's probably never heard so many Police and Ambulance sirens in her life πŸ™ˆ).

Thanks to Oralade for the super quick service on a few bottles of Advanced GI πŸ‘

We have started using this again for really sick Hedgehogs as it seems to make a big difference to their rehabilitation.

We are sorry to announce that little Spikina sadly did not make it and passed away last night as a result of her condition.

When Hedgehogs are so far dehydrated and malnourished it's touch and go for their survival as their bodies have already started to shut down.

Thanks to the Finder for bringing her in to us πŸ™πŸŒˆπŸ¦”

We are now temporarily closed to new admissions for a short while.

We only have limited capacity, both work full time and more importantly need to deliver a high standard of care to sick Hedgehogs.

Running over capacity brings risks of missing important details, doing a 'quick job' instead of a proper job as well as our own welfare.

As soon as we are able to release a few patients we will be open as usual for admissions.

If you find a sick Hedgehog while we are temporarily closed please message and we can send you a list of local Hedgehog Rescues who can hopefully assist.

This morning's admission was tiny Spikina from Little Stanion who had been seen out and about during the day.

She is only 296g, badly Hypothermic and just a bag of bones due to malnutrition.

Hedgehogs in this condition have a very low chance of survival but we will do our best as always 🀞

Currently she's tucked up in the North Northamptonshire Council incubator after receiving some fluids to kick start her tiny body.

On Saturday we admitted Mabel from Lodge Park who is a big girl, spotted out in the day.

She is currently being tested for gut parasites and at the moment is losing weight.

Lots of slimy green poo though suggests we might find a high Capillaria burden🦠 🫣

Thanks to Jackie Hooson for bringing her in πŸ™

Another admission on Friday was Oakey Dokey from Danesholme who was stuck in a tyre at Oakey Dokey Childcare Corby

Primary Survey revealed very little but he soon started a nasty rattly cough so as per usual he's getting poo inspection on our Microscope to see what's going on.

We are getting close to capacity now so will potentially be closing temporarily soon to ensure the Hedgehogs we have in care get the attention they need.

Thanks to our local Hedgehog Taxi Group for assistance with this rescue πŸ¦”πŸš•
