Say Hello to Henri from the South Kesteven District of Lincolnshire who came into us several days ago via Oakham Veterinary Hospital Small Animal

He's done well so far but not out of the danger zone just yet.

Being a Country Hedgehog he's extremely timid compared to Urban Hedgehogs and it took a couple of days to even find out if he had four legs and a willy 🀭

This week, make it your mission to spread the word about the harm bonfires can cause to our garden wildlife.

We've put together top tips on how best to reduce the risk of harming this - please share it far & wide!

We went from Open and back to Closed so quickly over the last 48 hours we didn't get around to making an announcement 🫣

We've started finding 200g Hoglets in our Garden, possibly because Mum got freaked out by the sudden drop in temperature and has hibernated somewhere.

They will really struggle to get to a decent weight without intervention so have been scooped, warmed and undergoing lab work.

Today we admitted another Hedgehog from Pen Green Centre (thanks to Hedgehog Lodge Rescue for getting us involved).

He was Hypothermic and tiny so has gone into an Incubator.

While getting back to my Car outside Pen Green the phone went and it was Oakham Veterinary Hospital Small Animal who asked if we could admit a Hedgehog from South Kesteven, Lincolnshire 🫣

Thankfully it had a healthy body temperature and has gone into a HogPod.

All our ICU and Warming facilities are at capacity and we've got more Hogs than HogPods so it's Hedgehog Tetris for a few days.

Photo 2 was taken about three seconds after the first one...he suddenly 'gave it legs' and made a dive for freedom πŸ˜‚

These three little guys from Breedon Close, Danesholme are currently thoroughly enjoying the 5 Star features of a large Brinsea Products Inc. ICU and also 'learned' how to use a SnugglePouch almost instantly πŸ˜‚

All three had been spotted out in the day by different residents and were finally caught all at once.

All very hypothermic and around the 100g mark these are three very lucky Hogs.

They do have significant parasite burdens but so far are doing really well and destroying big bowls of Royal Canin Mother and Baby Cat πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

In other news Wobbly AKA Wobs is making good progress, as is Spike v17.

Ruby is on 'Pre Flight Checks' pending release and Aurora from Lodge Park will not be far behind her.

We've had a few other admissions that sadly only lasted 12-24 hours, little Bluey crossed the Rainbow Bridge 🌈 but Bingo is still fighting very hard but not flourishing as much as he should.

All our Intensive Care facilities are occupied so for now we cannot accept anymore patients.

We are temporarily closed to new admissions for a few days while we concentrate on various sick patients and plan the release of a couple of other Hedgehogs.

We are aware that a lot of our neighbouring Rescues are also closed due to the overwhelming amount of Hedgehogs needing care but we can only do so much.

Feel free to contact us and we will try to suggest alternatives.
