Our veterinary team at Peacock Vets aim to deliver the highest clinical standards and surgical care. We have fully equipped operating and treatment facilities and a highly experienced nurse support team. ithout the need to be referred to third party specialist centres. However, where referral is more appropriate we do work with specialists in their field.

Meet Norbert!

A gorgeous guinea pig, he's very inquisitive - as this lovely photograph shows. Norbert is 4 1/2 years old and has beautiful fur colouring.

He's a fit little fellow and we really only see him for his regular nail trimming which ensures that his nails don't grow too long. If left untrimmed, both rabbit and guinea pig nails can cause them difficulties when walking or worse, they can curl over and grow into the skin on their feet pads!

Whilst many of our Pets of the Month are dogs or cats, we do love all small creatures. We welcome hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, rats, gerbils and basically any other furry or feathered friends that you may own! If we haven't already, we'd love to meet yours.

Finally, a guinea pig joke:
Q: What’s a guinea pigs favourite unit of time?
A: Wheeks
(Apparently they go 'wheek' as opposed to 'squeak').

We know, we'll stick to the day job πŸ˜‚πŸ¦š although you're welcome to add funnier animal jokes in the comments.

On behalf of the pets of Corsham whose families use the Corsham Food Bank, we would like to say a massive THANK YOU to our wonderful clients and friends who have donated to our Food Bank collection point. Iris took a very large donation of pet food to the Corsham Food Bank on Christmas Eve to ensure that no pets need go hungry over the festive period - and beyond.

We will continue to take in collections of pet food (in our waiting area) throughout the year, so please continue to drop in any donations that you can. Once we open in Chippenham, we will do the same there, too.

We are so lucky to have such wonderful clients who are happy to share what they have with others who may not be so lucky.

Again, THANK YOU - from all of us at Peacock Vets and from the pets of Corsham who will benefit from your kindness.

We want to wish all our wonderful customers and their furry friends the best of Christmases.

A few reminders for a safe and happy pet-filled Christmas:
πŸŽ„Not all pets enjoy the festivities - give them a safe and quiet area for them to retreat to if they feel overwhelmed
πŸŽ„Don't leave food and drink out where pets can reach it. Not all the treats will be pet-friendly
πŸŽ„Keep batteries away from your pets, especially those who like to chew
πŸŽ„Animals are curious and are likely to want to investigate new toys and presents. To avoid unnecessary stress, keep the new items safe and out of sight if they are likely to get damaged.
πŸŽ„Pets are for life, and not just for Christmas. If you have bought a pet for anyone, please be responsible and ensure that it is needed, will be loved and bring it into the vets as soon as you can for a check up, vaccinations and micro-chipping etc.

πŸ¦šπŸŽ„πŸ¦šπŸŽ„Merry Christmas from the entire team at Peacock Vets πŸ¦šπŸŽ„πŸ¦šπŸŽ„

It's tempting to treat our pets with tit bits from the table, as we're cooking or to share a bite of a delicious mince pie, BUT PLEASE DON'T!!

Too many of the goodies that we consume over Christmas aren't suitable for our furry friends. Mince pies and Christmas pudding, for example, contain raisins which can lead to kidney failure. Cinnamon, often used at this time of year, can lead to breathing difficulties and is also an irritant to their mouths and digestive systems. Chocolate, too, can be harmful as well as other dairy products. Many nuts and additives/flavourings are also to be avoided.

The safest way to spoil your pet is to give them treats designed specifically for them, or give them extra toys or more of your time.

For further guidance on what animals shouldn't eat, read our blog articles:
https://peacockvets.co.uk/news/can-my-pet-eat-this and https://peacockvets.co.uk/news/chocolate-and-our-pets-the-dangers

As always, if you're concerned that your pet may have eaten something that they shouldn't have, please get in touch with us straight away to discuss the best course of action.

17/12/2024

As people make plans for the festive season, we wanted to let you know that apart from the Bank Holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day), we will be open as usual.

Should your furry friends need any veterinary assistance when we are closed, please remember that we have excellent out of hours provision delivered by the specialist team at Nightingale Vets in Chippenham or Vets Now in Bath. Simply call our usual number (01249 847457) and choose option 1 for Chippenham or option 2 for Bath. Should you need to take your pet to either clinic, we will be happy to offer a free of charge follow up consultation to ensure that your pet is recovering well.

We are delighted to announce that Lizzi will be running our Chippenham practice when it opens in the New Year.

Many of our Corsham patients know that she is animal mad. She has her own Jack Russell; an ever-growing Labrador puppy and two rescue cats, one which only has 3 legs.

Lizzi offers all the experience and services that you would expect from a fully qualified vet as well as the expected Peacock Vets welcoming smile and care. She especially enjoys working with cats as she finds them medically very interesting. She is also particularly expert in emergency and critical care procedures together with acute and chronic pain management, so you know that your pets will be in safe hands.

We will be introducing more of the Chippenham team to everyone over the next few weeks.

Meet Bron, our gorgeous Pet of the Month for December.

She is a gorgeous 4 year old Cocker Spaniel who has been cared for by Peacock's for just over a year.

When she first visited us, she was very nervous. She didn't like to be handled at the ets and was very anxious. As her owners wanted to have her spayed and vaccinated, it was important to all of us that she became more confident and happy in all aspects of her life, but particualrly when she was at the vets.

Workin with our behaviourist, Karen, Bron has now been spayed, vaccinated and actually enjoys coming to the vets! We are so pleased, and love seeing Bron as she really is a beautiful dog.

If you have a pet who is anxious in any kind of situation; shows signs of being nervous or any other behavioural issue, feel free to contact us to discuss how we can help.

UPDATE: Iris has made it in so some appointments will be possible. Please call the surgery if you have to travel any distance to ensure you can be seen. Thank you again for your understanding. 🦚

Original post:
Regrettably, most of our staff have been unable to get into Corsham today as roads are impassable, so the wonderful Sam is manning our reception and aiming to answer any 'phone calls.

Thankfully, neither premises have been actually flooded, it's just the roads that have stopped us operating a full service. As always, we will aim to do what we can for all urgent cases, however, routine appointments will be rescheduled.

Thanks for bearing with us and for your understanding. We want our staff and patients to remain safe during this (and any future) bad weather. Please keep away from the flood water with your animals - you never know what lurks beneath and it is easy for fun to turn into difficulties.

Stay safe everyone πŸ¦šπŸΎπŸ’•

Are you sitting comfortably, then we'll begin...

Gadget, known as 'Jet', was brought into the Corsham clinic last week. Over the past few weeks, Jet was eating cat food which had been put out for hedgehogs in a local garden. We checked the gorgeous chap over and scanned his microchip.

Expecting an owner in or around Corsham, we were gob-smacked to realise that Jet was registered to an address near Truro in Cornwall!

His owners told us that they had brought Jet with them when they visited a family member in Rudloe back in May 2021 - over THREE YEARS ago - but he had escaped. Reluctantly, they had to return home and had thought that Jet was lost to them forever.

As you can imagine, they were overjoyed at hearing he'd been found safe and well, and travelled over four hours on Saturday to pick him up from us.

We love a happy ending, and we're so pleased that Jet was microchipped so we could reunite him with his very grateful owner. We're not sure how he survived over the past three years, but they would like to thank anyone who may have fed or cared for him, as well as the person who brought him into us.

Finally, whilst if it hadn't have been for Jet stealing the hedgehogs' food, he might not have been reunited with his owners, if you don't want cats eating the food you put out for hedgehogs, try placing it under a brick shelter with a hedgehog-sized gap in it.

We are so excited that work has started on our Chippenham Clinic! There's lots to do to transform the old Community Hub building into a veterinary clinic.

We are using many of the craftspeople that we used at our Corsham clinic so we know that the work will be just what we need to be able to give our Chippenham clients the same level of service and care.

There are notices in the windows and there will be further posts with updates and information. In the meantime, please call the Corsham clinic with any queries or to register your pet.
