Meet the handsome 'Pumpkin', our Pet of the Month for November.

At two years old, Pumpkin has been to our clinic since he was a kitten. We have neutered him, given him his micro-chip and ensured that he has received his anti-parasite treatments and annual vaccinations.

His owners signed him up for our Top Cat monthly payment plan meaning Pumpkin is covered for preventative care and check-ups including:

– Yearly vaccines (50% off for rabies vaccines)
– Free anti-parasite treatment delivered to your home
– Free 6 month health check
– Free nurse nail clips
– Free microchip
– Free insurance admin

We're not sure if he partook in any Halloween trick or treating, but with a name like Pumpkin, he could have. If he's like most cats, he'll probably look for treats at any time of year and may even get up to a few tricks! We think he could get away with anything with those gorgeous eyes, long whiskers and huge paws!

If you want to find out more about our Top Cat (or Top Dog) payment plans, give us a call or come and see us.

Iris and the team are delighted that we will be opening a new clinic in the centre of from the New Year.

We don't want to take over the world, but we want to be able to offer our friendly, independent and cost-effective advice and service to owners who live further afield from Corsham. In addition, the clinic will give extra flexibility to our Corsham patients if they wish to be seen in Chippenham.

Iris will remain at the Corsham clinic, and the Chippenham team will be announced soon.

If you have any friends with pets in the Chippenham area, please ask them to contact us as we'd love to tell them more.

Please also look out for further posts and updates about this exciting addition to our service.

It's that time of year again! Fireworks 🎇 and bonfires 🔥 look stunning, but the flashes and bangs can cause our pets huge anxiety.

Read our latest blog for detailed tips and ideas to keep them calm, but if you don't have time to read it now, here are a few:

🦚Try to keep them calm by allowing them a safe space to retreat to if they are scared.
🦚Keep doors and windows closed with curtains to block out the flashes and muffle the noise where possible.
🦚Play calming music or keep the television on to distract them.

As always, please contact us or call in to speak to one of our team or our behaviourist to discuss your particular concerns.

The old phrase 'better late, than never' comes to mind!

We want to apologise to the gorgeous Bernie and Ruby for being late in featuring them as our pets of the month for October. The black and white rascals bring so much joy and are the sweetest pups. They are both one year old and full of life - as illustrated in their photo.

We hope that they both enjoy their Arden Grange tasty liver treat paste.

If you feel that your furry friend would make an excellent 'Pet of the Month', why not send a photo with their and your details to [email protected]?

Our clients are simply the best.

We received this lovely postcard from Pontins at Sand Bay from two of our clients today. How thoughtful of them to think of us whilst they are away enjoying themselves.

We are so lucky and grateful to receive all the flowers, gifts and cards that we are given from our clients and their furry friends.

We love you all 🐾💕🦚

We are delighted to announce that our patients now have a more local option should their furry friends be taken ill or have an emergency outside of our normal hours.

Our current out-of-hours service provider is in Bath, but we're pleased to be able to now offer an alternative service through Nightingale Emergency Vets in .

This is far more than an 'on-call' service. It provides fully rested vets and vet nurses on site all night, every night. From obtaining peace of mind via a phone call to full emergency care, you will know that your pets are in safe hands.

Look out for a blog on our website giving more information shortly, but we were so excited, we couldn't wait. And there's more excitement expected soon.

In the meantime, do call into the practice with any queries. 🦚

Did you know that the Peacocks Veterinary Clinic is an independent practice?

Owned and run by vets, this means that there are no corporate 'bosses', rules and targets, but only a pet-loving team whose sole aim is to care for your pet as they would their own. Passionate about animals, the practice offers personal and bespoke care with the team going above and beyond to ensure your pet is comfortable.

Iris and her team love meeting and caring for your furry friends. Every member of the team adores animals and most have a number of pets themselves. Why not call in the next time you are passing to tell them all about yours?

Did you know that parasites such as fleas and ticks can still cause problems for your furry friends (and you) during the winter months, even when the temperature drops below freezing?

Call in to discuss how we can help protect your furry friends with the most appropriate parasite treatment needed, whatever time of year.

To help you spread the cost of pet care, including the correct anti-parasite treatment delivered to your home, why not check out our Top Pet Club plans? https://peacockvets.co.uk/top-pet-club

If you're concerned about your pet excessively scratching themselves; behaving differently; seeing flakes or 'dirt' in their fur or showing signs of an infestation of any kind, please call us. Remember, these pests can cause discomfort and disease to humans, too, and in some cases, can infest our homes. We're here to help you.

Meet Zero - September's Pet of the Month.

Zero is an amazing girl - she's friendly, inquisitive and brilliant around children and other animals. Belonging to a childminder, being playful (but not too much); friendly (but not 'in your face') and obedient (as much as possible) are luckily attributes Zero has in abundance.

She has her own quirky little character and is happy to see anyone and everyone, so if you see her around Corsham, do say hello. That said, as with all dogs, always ask their owner first if it's OK to approach them or stroke them. The only way dogs can tell you they don't want to talk to you is by growling or snapping. They might be feeling ill, overwhelmed or frightened, and a stranger going up to them could be the last thing they need. Everyone has an off day, even the friendly Zero!

If you're concerned about how your pet behaves around other animals, children or people in general, do contact Karen, our Behaviourist, to discuss potential strategies and training methods which might help.

To all our wonderful friends and clients, enjoy the bank holiday.

We will be open on Saturday as normal (9am to midday) but closed all day on Monday. In case of an emergency, please call the practice number 01249 847457 and listen to the instructions.

We're all hoping for good weather, so the barbecues may well come out, but don't forget that your furry friends can't eat everything that we can. Check out our blog with some helpful hints: https://peacockvets.co.uk/news/can-my-pet-eat-this

Stay safe and have fun (hopefully in the sun) ☀️😎.

We'd love to hear about the animal charities that you support or wish to highlight. Let's take the opportunity to celebrate them by tagging them in the comments. Feel free to add their website address if they have one so people can find out more information.

Thankfully, the majority of pets in this country are well cared for, and we know that our customers adore their furry friends. That's why the Peacock Vets' team love your pets as much as you do and care for them as best we can. Unfortunately, not all animals are loved or well cared for. There are thousands of charities which exist to improve the care and welfare of pets and other animals, both in the UK and around the world.

For the eagle-eyed amongst you, did you spot that we used the 'Lazy Dog' font for the headline in our post's image? (No, we'd not heard of it before, either😂).

(Please note, the Peacock Vets are not affiliated to any particular charity or charities and cannot take responsibility for any posts or comments left. We simply wish to recognise the wonderful work charities do and to raise awareness, especially for some of the lesser-known animal charities).

How cute is Bobby, our Pet of the Month for August?

Bobby is an eight-year-old adorable chihuahua. He recently had to undergo a**l gland surgery, but was an excellent patient, and following all the relevant post-surgery checks, he was able to head home on the same day as his surgery.

As with most dogs, he had to wear the 'cone of shame' following surgery to ensure that he didn't lick the area, which actually meant he looked even cuter!

A**l Gland Excision (technically referred to as a Sacculectomy) is a fairly common procedure and is performed to either manage recurrent episodes of blockage, infection and abscess formation or to remove a cancer of the gland. If surgery is carried out to manage repeated blockages and infection, it tends to cure the patient from recurring episodes in the future.

If you are concerned in any way about your furry friends, please call in to see us or give us a call.

01/08/2024

You may be aware that there has recently been an increase in the number of dogs being diagnosed with Brucella canis in the UK. Most cases have been in dogs imported into the UK from Eastern Europe; mated with an imported dog; have had contact with an imported bitch when she's giving birth or are the puppies from an imported dog.

It is recommended that all imported dogs are tested for Brucella canis even if they appear well.

Brucella canis often affects the reproductive system in dogs and can cause infertility and miscarriages. Dogs may also show other signs of the infection such as tiredness;
swelling of lymph nodes in the neck, armpit, or groin (lymphadenopathy) and
back and/or joint problems (including lameness).

The risk to healthy humans is minimal, however, for those with low immunity symptoms can include fluctuating high temperatures, enlarged lymph nodes, headaches and problems in pregnancy.

If you are at all concerned, please call the surgery where we will be happy to advise further.

Our pets rely on us to keep them fit and healthy, and diet plays a big part.
We all like to treat our furry friends, but remember that not all the foods that we eat are safe for them.
There are even dangers when feeding traditional pet foods to our animals. Too much, too little or insufficient exercise can lead to serious medical issues over the long term.
Call in to chat through the ideal diet to maximise their health, fitness and longevity or read our latest news article on our website.

School Holidays are imminent; the sun is out (for now) and people are heading off on their holidays. It's time to not only think about sunscreen and ice-creams, but what your pet's going to do over the summer, too.

Wherever you are going, it's worth reading our blog on what considerations and preparations are needed for your furry friends over the summer. Additional vaccinations? Calming solutions? Animal Health certificate (AHC)? Marshfield Farm dog ice cream?

Pop in to see us to discuss your particular needs or treat your pup to an ice cream when you have yours.
