The best way to gain a cats trust is to simply listen to them! This is what I mean when I say I get the cats to consent to grooming rather than forcing the situation. By stopping when Margot shows me she's not that happy ....giving her snuggles (which is what she does want), she then allows me to carry on and do more... if I was to force Margot she would get very aggressive (there was a time I couldn't touch her!) She knows I listen to her which means she trusts me, which means she consents to grooming! Gently encouraging them into positions you need them in is far more effective than forcing and holding them when they don't want to! Does it take a little longer to groom? Sometimes 🤷🏻♀️ but to send home calm, relaxed cats (her mum thinks I've sedated her when she collects her 🤣) and purr the second they come back to the salon is worth a little extra time!
