Often in view, sometimes acknowledged but rarely (or incorrectly) addressed! Spoiler alert 🚨 changing the neck doesn’t come from training the neck, it comes from core hypaxial engagement, to lift the back and cause positive relaxed cervical engagement. The neck of the horse is often pinpointed as an important factor in modern dressage, alongside limb action.

The conformation and muscle development of your horses neck can truly be a sign as to their mechanics of action during exercise. An overdeveloped underside of the neck (brachiocephalic muscle) is often a tell tale sign of incorrect riding and posture.

A simple exercise to do is to take a photo of your horses neck from the side, and trace over its outline. Can you see dips, bulges? Take your hand and stroke your horses neck gently with your eyes closed. Can you feel relaxation and suppleness? Is the muscle moving under your pressure, or remaining stagnant? Is your horse happy with this pressure, or do they move away from you?

I’d love to see your responses and hear how you get on! I am in the process of building a Patreon page to include more content like this on a regular basis, so please do let me know if anyone would be interested in signing up 🤍

Our Story

I am a fully qualified and insured Equine Sports Massage Therapist who really have the passion for horses and their well-being. After completing my 2 years course at The Institute for Complementary Animal Therapies, I realised that something was missing so I have studied natural and remedial hoof trimming for 2 years along side a vet and this completed the puzzle! On side, I was also doing CPDs to stay updated about massage/ myofascial release and joints mobilisation. I have also acquired new knowledge and can now offer thermal imaging and Infrared treatment on top of the usual sport massage.

All of these years studying and treating horses makes me able to help you with your horse rather you just want a one off treatment or if you are looking for someone to help you to rehabilitate your horse or finding a solution to a problem that other professional couldn’t find for your horse...
