When talking to your dog it's important to remember their name is a great attention grabber. If you go for months without using their name it's easy for them to get confused thinking you have changed their name. This may be why your dogs started ignoring you when you call them.

With the heat showing no signs of disappearing please remember dogs suffer in the heat much more than you may think. It takes around 60 days for a dog to acclimatise to extreme temperatures.

It's important to remember
Ensure your dog has access to clean water at all times.
Ensure your dog has access to shade at all times.
Paddling pools can be a huge help for the dogs that enjoy water.
If your dog needs to be walked early in the morning or late at night is the best option. If you're ever unsure whether it's cool enough for a walk, place the palm of your hand on the pavement and hold it there until you can't, if you can hold it for 30 seconds your dog will be ok, if you can't hold it comfortably for 30 seconds it's too warm for your dog.

Did you know? Just 20 minutes of mental stimulation uses the same amount of energy as an hour's walk. 😯

Mental stimulation can come in many forms some can be pricey others are absolutely free. Puzzle toys and snuffle mats filled with their favourite treats or even a meal are a great option although some of them can be quite expensive.

If you've got some spare time why not take your pooch for a dog led or off lead walk? Allowing your dog to take the lead in a new area with interesting smells, sounds and sights can provide the mental and physical exercise they need.

Meet Winnie she loves puzzle toys. Being a Springer Spaniel she has a lot of energy, if a walk doesn't tire her out just 5 minutes solving a puzzle toy and she's fast asleep. 😴 She even loves a simple toilet roll tube with the ends folded.

Hi I'm Cassie I have just graduated from university and I'm eager to make a start doing what I love. I have some experience working with various sizes of dog with very different temperaments and I'm ready to develop my experience and knowledge helping other people resolve difficulties they may be having with their dog.
