Mij the Trainee Assistance Dog.

Here we see Mij, a working Labrador boy, learning to take the world at a slower pace! Mij has been struggling with heel work on walks due to being just a bit too excited! So we stripped it down to basics and changed the pace of this ‘walk’ and instead did some easy sits and downs. Mij is an Assistance Dog in training for his owner and he is a great support for her in the house. What a dude 🐾🦮

Hello! It’s been a little while! We have had a hectic few weeks at A Piece of Cake! Jazz was spayed last week and has been recovering and getting back to her normal self ever since. I have started a new job which is very exciting! And on top of all of that we are also getting ready to move house! But with all of that said it is now less than a month until the shooting season begins again so we are training and getting the team super fit here. Hopefully once life calms down a bit more again we will be more active on social media! 🦮🐾🧁

After 4 years of hard work I am very excited to say that as of yesterday I was awarded a 2:1 with honours for my Animal Behaviour and Welfare degree! I cannot wait to see what’s next in store for me! 🎓🧁🐾

Pippa showing us all how it’s done on her first ever free run! She showed us all that she can swim and recall brilliantly! This little lady was lovely with other off lead dogs and gave other on lead dogs the space they needed. What a star and what a day in the office!🌊☀️

Meet Louis the Picardy Spaniel! We had a lovely morning working on Louis’ stop whistle and directional work. Louie is one of only 60 Picardy Spaniels in the UK… how cool is that! Wish I had taken more pictures of this rare guy because he is beautiful 😍🌟 Maybe I should add one of these HPRs to the wish list!🧁🐾

🐾Pippa and Rich🐾

This is Pippa a 13 week old CockerPoo with her owner Richard. Pippa has been doing lots of work on her ‘life skills’ with Rich’s mum and dad but here she is learning a ‘party trick🎉’ alongside Rich! A clicker is a great tool and not only encourages focus and a bond but also can be used by lots of members of the family.

Meet Sprout!

Sprout is a tiny 4 year old cocker who never stops! This one is so cute she constantly finds herself in people’s arms for a cuddle! Sprout may be small but she is mighty💪🏻

Meet Jazz!

Jazz is a 5 year old Labrador Retriever who loves a cuddle, Wildfowling and snacks! She makes you think outside of the box when training her and hasn’t always been super easy... but those ones are always our favourites! A very special girl.

Meet Poppy!

Poppy is 11 and she is our resident snoozer! Too friendly for her own good this one! Poppy used to compete with her dad at scurrys and working tests before becoming an amazing estate dog. She now is enjoying her retirement in sunny Devon with plenty of beach walks!

Meet Bracken!

Bracken was my 11th Birthday present. She is now an old girl... but it hasn’t stopped her yet! She still swims everywhere and is ever present on shoot days. Bracken and I won many scurries and working tests back in our day competing in junior and open leagues! A key member of our team and the girl that began it all.

Meet Poppet!

Poppet is a 4 year old terrier who is a legend in her own right! Poppet likes chasing squirrels, eating chicken hearts for dinner and snoozing right around your neck! Poppet is super clicker trained and is a lot of fun to work with! Oh and she is of course my best friend 🥰

Welcome to A Piece of Cake Dog Training! 🧁🐾

I’m Caitlin, the owner and trainer at ‘A Piece of Cake Dog Training’ based in North Devon. I’m just two exams away from finishing a four year Animal Behaviour and Welfare degree at and I am now ready to start the next adventure!

Here’s some things to know about me:
-My friends all call me Cakes! (Hence the business name)
-I am spaniel crazy and don’t remember a life not being surrounded by them
-I completed my placement year at Medical Detection Dogs (and loved it!)
-I wrote my dissertation on Labrador Retriever Coefficient of Inbreeding percentages (so I like to geek out about that!)
-I worked as a kennel girl for over 3 years at and met lots of lovely pups 😍
-Finally, I have been training dogs since I was 10 years old and can’t wait to continue.
