PLEASE NOTE A PRICE INCREASE FOR 2024.

I appreciate that everything is going up and I have kept my prices the same since I started in 2022 but given that I provide everything for your rats holiday and I do not charge for vet visits other than Β£5 for petrol, I do not charge for giving medications, and your rats get a fabulous holiday, I have had to increase my prices by Β£2 per day for up to 4 rats.

Please remember I only board 1 mischief at a time unless there are extenuating circumstances so your rats receive 1 on 1 care whilst in my home.

We hope you will continue to use The Rat Nanny as we love all our guests very much πŸ’œπŸ’œ

We are a bit sad this end as we have said goodbye to one of our girls. She hadn't reached two years old yet but unfortunately she had a Pituitary Tumour (PT).
She will be buried in our garden with all our other ratties and a special flower will be chosen for her to grow.
Sweet dreams my Penny-Pops, we miss you lots πŸ’œπŸŒˆπŸŒˆπŸŒˆ

So let's talk about Vets.....
At the moment I have three ratties in my home all on different types of medications. I have no problems with giving my guests medications, all I ask is that you clear it with me first. If you turn up with a poorly rat that you haven't not spoken to me about when filling out my forms then your rats cannot stay with me, this is because I have my own rats health to take into consideration and also my own liability with a poorly rat.
I am always happy to take a rat to a vet, I normally use my own exotic vet who is very experienced, but if you have a rat savvy vet and the distance isn't too far then I am happy to go to them if your rat becomes poorly.
Small animals of any kind can become poorly quite quickly and if I notice anything amiss you will be messaged immediately. I have quite the first aid kit for my rats from special high calorie food, to pain relief and antibiotics so if it's the weekend and I feel it doesn't need the emergency vets I can help your rat along until a normal vets open on a Monday.

Please be assured your rats health and wellbeing are first and foremost when boarding with me.

We have had a mad few weeks here at The Rat Nanny. Firstly I got asked to take a last minute booking, now normally I would have said no as their leave date was a date when another booking was arriving but I heard the circumstances and had to say yes 😬 so three rescue boys came to stay for a week, then 3 more arrived once the rescues had gone home. 2 days after they arrived I had surgery on my right arm so I've been trussed up like a turkey for the past week, but I've still been able to spend time with our guests.
Enjoy the photos that follow.

We've had some unexpected but very exciting news this end. Not only is one of our amazing clients gifting us with a cage but they're also gifting us with all the stuff their rats had. Whilst our hearts are sad that their rat journey has come to an end, we are very grateful that they thought of us for all their treasured rats belongings. So visiting ratties will have some exciting new toys to play with and climb in the rat room, they will also have an upgraded cage too!
We won't mention their name but they know who they are and I hope they know that we are very grateful πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Let's talk about heart rats. So for those who don't know what a ❀️ rat is, it is a rat who you have a once in a lifetime connection with. They have something special about them that connects with you on a deeper level than any other rat. That doesn't mean you don't love all the other rats you have, it's just that this one rat talks to your soul.
This was my ❀️ rat and her name was Tufty. She was probably taken away from her Mum too young so she was always very small and had numerous health issues.

When I first brought rats 8 years ago, I thought you could only buy rats from a pet shop, so I went to one that had a good reputation in my town (not the BIG named pet shop). What I didn't know was that if you buy rats from a pet shop you are helping to fund back yard breeding (BYB). So now, after years of having rescues, we have properly bred rats from a registered NFRS breeder so I know that the Mum is well cared for and doesn't have back to back litters.

So the second mischief of 4 girls that we purchased were possibly bred from a female rat who gave birth to back to back litters πŸ˜₯ 3 of the girls passed away after developing fast growing mammary tumours. Tufty, despite having a constant snuffle and ears that smelt like bum (not that I go around smelling people's bums but that's the best description I could give the vet 😁) and not growing very big, was actually quite healthy. That was until she started growing a tumour on her face near her eye. Her eye wasn't affected but my concern was that the tumour could grow into her brain and I didn't want her to suffer seizures so we had her PTS. She was still behaving like a normal rat and still tormented her sisters but as I didn't want her to suffer we decided to take her to the vet earlier rather than later.
The reason why she was my heart rat was because she needed so much care when she first came to us and a lot of meds that she almost imprinted on me. When I had my breakfast in the morning she would be there waiting by the cage door for me so she could sit on my shoulder, under my fleece and nibble on some toast. She would hang off the bottom of my trousers when she was on free roam when she wanted to be up on my shoulder. She would sit outside my daughter's bedroom door and sneeze loudly until my daughter opened the door and let her in. If my daughter wasn't quick enough to open the door then Tufty would start pulling at the corner of the carpet (we have a small bald patch by the door now) until the door was opened. When my daughter wasn't there then Tufty didn't bother going near the door. She used to hide in my fleece and go to the shops with me which she loved to do.

I have loved all my rats, and I miss them all, but Tufty was something special.

Since I have no ratties staying at the moment here are some photos of my girls enjoying some chicken bones this evening.
If your rats have their holiday with me they will receive exactly the same food my girls get, and that includes chicken bones when I cook a roast chicken. I love watching them run off with the bones πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯Ή

My gorgeous Grandbun enjoyed some time outside today. We did end up putting up a barrier as he wanted to go further than I felt was safe for him.

No rats this week (boo) but I do have my beautiful Grandbun staying with me for 10 days (yay). He's a grumpy bunny who enjoys a good poo party (see behind him in this video?), hay and bananas.
