A lot of dog guardians feel guilty about this (and they shouldn’t!)

We 💛 hydrotherapy
Norma dog is gonna be 10 in a couple of days. She currently has no arthritis or issues (aside from a bit of muscle weakness from 5 years of no walks in her first home) so we’re doing hydrotherapy for maintenance and strength. Older dogs don’t need to decline at the rate you see many of them do. Keep them strong 💪 Keep them trim 🍏Give them freedom from slippery floors and jumping out of cars/ jumping off furniture. 🏡Keep their mind active 🧠#Dogtraining #dogtrainer #dogbehaviour #seniordogs #terrier #smalldogs #yorkie #maltese #hydrotherapy #dogs #dogstagram #jaws #physiotherapy Taylors K9 Hydrotherapy Centre
Not enough vets understand the link between pain and behaviour. (Those vets that do are SUPERSTARS and we must cherish them!). A dog may not respond to having their legs manipulated in the clinic but may communicate with behaviour in every day life. Dogs in pain may exhibit reactivity, may be destructive, may not rest, may rest too much, may not eat their dinner, may resource guard, may growl when someone approaches them, may run from their harness, may bite and they may still run around and chase balls etc etc I have heard way too many vets telling can’t clients their dog is trying to be top dog! It’s SO outdated and wrong. #dogtraining #dogtrainer #newcastle #whitleybay #doglover #dogtips #dogadvice #cutedogs #tynemouth #northshields
When the vet tells my client their dog isn’t in pain when I know they are

I can’t decide which phrase, followed by “…so I don’t need an education” I find most infuriating:
1. I’ve had dogs all my life
2. I’ve been training dogs for X number of years

Counter-conditioning.It's a science.Make life easier for you and you dog, not more violent or stressful.I'm working with another client at the moment who's previous trainer told them that rewarding a barking dog makes them bark more. If they're barking at YOU and you then reward them, sure. But that's very different and is where some of the less educated trainers can't see the nuance. If you're rewarding a dog that is barking atSOMETHING ELSE you aren't reinforcing that behaviour, you're making them feel BETTER about that situation. A dog that FEELS better doesn't need to bark and react.Have a go. Oh and please let's stop getting tips from him off the telly in the cravat. He's an idiot. Oh and so is the "Shush" guy. Oh and the Phil & Grant Mitchell ones. #dogtraining #barking #dogbarking #dogbehaviour #dogbehaviourist #dogtrainer #dogtrainertips
Your dog isn't a mindreader, but they can predict the future (sometimes). If they think you might grab them and spin them around, or take something from them or force them into a crate or smack them etc then they will learn to bite so you can't harm them. And that's totally fair enough. There are ethical ways to achieve your goals and a qualified professional (real qualifications, not a dog communication diploma that cost £20) can help you. They may even help you to refine your goals or consider rethinking them altogether.Trust me.
