Jan for Little Guy?

For owners of traditional show cobs, ensuring your horse’s hair is kept long, silky and conditioned is all part of the game. Arguably, Lacey Smith’s two traditional stallions, 10-year-old elite graded Domino Bad Boy (Tommy) and six-year-old dual graded Stanray Xr**ed (Tedd, pictured above) posse...

Delighted to see TVC back at Blakesley Show. X

Great news - Blakesley Show is back this summer and we’re going to be there on our usual stand!

It’s on Saturday 7th August from 8.00 am – 5.30PM and it’s always a great fun day out for the whole family. We love the show as it’s a great opportunity for our Small Animal, Equine & Farm team to meet lots of clients for a chat and a cuppa (or something colder). Please pop the date in your diary.

Why not like and share this post if you’re going to come and see us on the stand?

We are closing during the afternoon at 2.15 pm-3:30 on Saturday so that we can pay our respects to the Duke of Edinburgh. He was an exceptional man whose drive and commitment to Great Britain, his family, his sport and of course the Queen will inspire generations to come. His extraordinary lifetime of helping young people, giving and sharing varied experiences and dedication to equine sports is an example to us all.

Beautiful statue of Valegro unveiled.

Well the setting could not be more English to see the sculpture of Valegro in its permanent place in Newent. He changed so many of our lives and elevated our sport so this is a really proud moment for myself, Charlotte and everyone who has been involved with this very special horse. Thank you to the sculptor Georgie Welch and all involved who made this happen. We are delighted 😊

Fabulous news horse welfare over ‘tradition competition practice’.

Kelly explaining how to touch a scared pony.

As people seemed to enjoy Forest the Exmoor pony on Countryfile so much I thought I could fill you in with a few more details of the morning at Adam’s . There’s a full write up in our Spring IH Magazine but this will fill in a few gaps in the ‘From Feral to Friendly’ story. So first we set up a safe area and she knows her companion is close by. Then I use body language and breath so that she starts to feel trust for me. Something that is scarey for her next is the ANTICIPATION of me first touching her (a bit like when you’re going to have a jab!) So best get on with it. By using a long stick with some pipe lagging taped to it or a stick with a glove on the end, I can reach out and touch her and NOT be worried about the hand getting bitten (!) and I’m out of the kick zone. More to follow!

Then she realises this touch isn’t so bad (especially if it scratches her itchy areas a bit) we can SLOWLY move up the stick and scratch with our real fingers
