This morning , on this new pony acquired by a client I was able to show other equine professionals the benefits of the HoofBeat Gait analysis system.

With shoeing this pony with a corrective shoeing package, we was able to improve his breakover time of 10miliseconds per stride.
This might not sound a lot, but if you consider every stride for the next 5-6 weeks of the shoeing cycle that is a vast improvement to be considered.

It’s that time of year!

Springs in the air foals being born!
A new little c**t on the books!
Meet eclipse, he’s 3 weeks old shire horse.

He came to see what the farrier is all about today while I was trimming his mother.

He’s going to be a character owner and myself are certain! 🐎

Chronic Lamintis with sub solar seroma case update 4 weeks on.

This horse was presented to me 4 weeks prior to today with a Seroma.

This is a pocket build up of blood and serum and infection from the laminae being torn with pedal bone rotation.

It causes pressure and needs to be released to help with preventing infection occurring.

With this particular case, the client applied suger and iodine to help harden the area for myself to apply a shoe.

The shoe applied was a open toe heart bar shoe with a full sole support pad, DIM, magic cushion and a hoof cast.

With this package firstly applied it helped with solar support, infection prevention and stabilisation of the pedal bone via the cast.

To todays shoeing, the hoof had created some solar depth and stability from X-rays given, and another shoeing package was applied to help this horse on its rehabilation.

The Aliminium Rollar Motion Heart bar from The Shoeing Lab 01905-641640 helps with a leverage reduction on the hoof capsule.
Giving a “clog “ effect, allowing easier breakover when moving around.

A caudal packing with 15 shore DIM applied to help with comfort in the back half of the foot.

After shoeing we had a very happy horse.
Still time to go yet but progress is looking good and a happy owner.

Fantastic achievement, considering this pony was potentially being PTS due to its chronic laminitis, and founder.
Due to owner working along side and listening to the professionals working on their horse.
Success was possible .

Update, on the van, it’s still in the garage, I’m trying to make do and do the best I can for everyone using my partners car, to cold shoe as many as possible where possible. And had other farriers I’ve borrowed with there vans to get horses done.

So can everyone please be as patient as they can, if they are desperate and need shoeing, I will send out a couple of numbers to see if anyone can accommodate you at this current time.

Regards,
Dexter.

📚Fact about the horses hoof 📚

📚Anti-Concussive Mechanism

⚫️A horses foot performs supporting,anti-concussion,non-slip and circulatory regulating functions.

⚫️The normal horses foot is provided with a unique anti-concussive mechanism when carrying weight in motion. This is greatly helped by the digital cushion, which is formed in the back half of the horses foot.

⚫️As weight is placed on the hoof, forces are under compression as the shock absorbing structures take place between the body weight decending and hoof capsular strain.
(Structures effected in this motion working as a team are :
The digital cushion.
Collateral cartilages
Circulatory system
Frog stay and corium.

⚫️When this happens pressure is put into the digital cushion and in turn the cartilage of the distal phalanx (pedal bone) and in the coronary band.

⚫️This causing blood to flow around the foot and forces being under taken.

Great webinar tonight hosted by The Farriers Foundation

Hosts
Brad Greenham AWCF :
The angle of the partial Surface and exstensor process In conjunction with the Hoof wall angle.

Great seeing a study done on focusing on realigning the hoof wall, and talking about caudal support to influence this. (Such as use of pads and packing , bar shoes aswell.)
Focusing on restoring the back half of the foot to promote healthy foot growth at the front.

Refreshing to read this study as it’s becoming a problem that we come across regularly.

Andrew Bowyer AWCF GradDIPELR:

Measuring Mouisture content in keratinized h***y structures of the foot in the domesticated horses.

Talking about environmental changes and hoof moisture percentages that are influenced .

Great job guys 👏

🏎️Keeping a horse on the road is no different then the Formula One team keeping the cars on the track.🏎️

It’s important that for the best outcome of the equine all professionals work together.

I’m lucky that all the professionals my clients use I have a very good working relationship with. Which helps provide the best outcome in situations.🤩

Good communication between professionals is what provides the best outcome for horses 💪

☄️Different shoeing packages explained why? And what’s the reason behind horses needing these today?☄️

Lots of people ask me why I use pads, modern materials and shoe modifications(such as lateral exstensions, spiral shoes etc).
And why don’t I shoe with a simple set of shoes?

The reason for this is, is horses for courses.
For example, to put this in human perspective.

To go hiking you wear a suitable boot with sustainable ankle support and grip?

Or if you are a professional runner/Olympian you have your own made to measure inner soles in the shoes to help out your othopedics.

This is excatly the same in the horse world.

A horse that has a certain ailment such has a lack in sole depth , then a shoeing package to help give a artificial effect will enhance that.

Or a conformational defect that needs supporting appropriately.

Or a horse that is getting older and needs support on the lateral side of the foot due to arthritic bony changes occurring.

So in a nutshell, horses need to be shod for the work and conformation that is given in front of the farrier.

Not one style fixes all 👍

⛔️GIVE HORSES 2 METRES WHEN OVERTAKING! ⛔️

This Sunday emergency call out happened today, due to a car not giving a rider 2m clearance when going past!

This caused the horse to spook and kick out at a car , causing this shoe to be moved across the foot.

LUCKILY IT DID NOT ENTER SENSITIVE STRUCTURES. OR THIS COULD OF BEEN A DIFFERENT OUTCOME!

Horses are allowed to be worked on the road, so please give them respect, as it’s someone’s family member and animal.

10mph and 2 Metres is all you need to do.

With a lot of clients asking about using the HoofBeat, I thought I would do a view of what I see on my screen and what it shows.

What you see at first is the Hoof Pastern Angle at the degree that is measured on the hoof by the sensors.

Then slide two is the point of breakover, this is the point that the heels of the foot leave the ground.

Slide 3 is motion map.
This shows where the foot is loading from the point of breakover to the landing phase.

Slide 4 is a animation from the swing phase.
This is from the front perspective, at the side and from above.

This is analysing the swing of the horses leg. Very interesting to see with different conformation on so many horses.

A lot of variables to be seen by this .

Slide 5 is the stride timings, and this shows how the strides are in time with each other, or if you have a stride that is off. This will show.

What a fantastic bit of kit the hoofbeat is.

I wish I had this years ago when I first qualified, this is certainly going to help with the future of Farriery.

🟠*HOOFBEAT*🟠

As some of you know we have been waiting for this .

This is hoof beat.
What does hoof beat do?
It is a analysis Hoof/Gait to help the farrier in improving shoeing for exactly how your horse moves.

It is done by placing 4 sensors . One of each foot and walking and trotting the horse up.

What Hoofbeat does, is it measures your horses strides and displays how your horse:

Takes off ie: Breakover the take of point of the foot at the point where the heels leave the floor.

Mid stance: This is where the foot is , when in the air and in flight.

Landing : This is the point where the foot first lands and pinpoints the exact location the horses foot strikes the ground on landing.

It also measures hoof wall angles.

This is to be done before shoeing and after to show the changes and results.

This is another push forward for the science behind shoeing horses and in the future .

Looking forward to helping horses with this.👌
