Archie 💙

This may be a bit long but I am so proud of Archie (and his family!)

Archie started coming to me when he was a puppy when I first opened 3 years ago, and he was so good for being groomed! He can be quite an anxious boy at times in general however when it came to grooming I never had any issues. Until September last year…

During his groom in September 2023, Archie suddenly decided he had an aversion to his face being touched while being groomed. He would show me his teeth and would snap at me, there was never any growls but he was communicating he wasn’t happy 😓 I spoke to his mum, and we decided to ask Kate from Ruff Mutts to come to a grooming appointment to see what she thought as she had had sessions with Archie and his family for his anxiety outside of the salon.

Kate attended Archie’s next groom where she seen the issues I was having and we spoke to his mum and came up with a plan, which was essentially going right back to basics to rebuild up his confidence 💪

To begin with, Archie came for bi-weekly sessions with me in January of this year, just to spend time with me in the salon. Then Kate started coming to the salon for sessions. Archie at one point was coming weekly for an hour where we would break down the whole groom into small chunks, he spent most this time leaving with some very questionable grooms 🤣

However, Archie was still struggling with different parts of the groom, and it was hard to pinpoint exactly what it was as one week he would have an issue with his ears being groomed, but the following week it would be his feet, he wasn’t consistent with what parts he didn’t like and was confusing both myself and Kate 🙄🤣

We spoke to his mum and we decided to try some light sedation to see if that would take the edge off, and it did….. The first dose was slightly too strong for Archie and he just wanted to sit down or lie down the whole time which made it actually harder to groom him 😂 So we attempted a different lighter dose which was a success which was in August of this year.

In September I groomed Archie for the first time in a long time without Kate and we had no issues whatsoever! 💙

This week he came in for another groom (photo below) and again 0 issues! Archie’s dose is low, but it takes the edge off for him to cope with being groomed. Although it may not be the best groom in the world, what’s more important is that Archie is happy ☺️

A massive thank you to Kate for her help, and a huge well done to Archie’s family for putting in the work at home inbetween sessions 💙 it wasn’t a quick or easy fix (which most times it never is!) but we got there in the end 🥰

I love grooming her as it’s always such a transformation since she absolutely loves getting as dirty as possible 😭🤣

Heidi got 1st In Utility Post Graduate at the Royal Manx Agricultural Show ❤️

Hetty got 5th in her first ever obedience show in the Special Pre-Beginners class 💖

Cali the Australian Shepherd 💜

Cali was in her for regular groom today. I tried a mud mask on her at a previous groom and it seemed to work really well so I decided to try it again today!

The Mud Mask is to help deshed her coat as it loosens up the dead coat and also conditions the skin and coat. It does looks a little drastic when applied but I’m honestly in love with this product 😍

Cali is such a good girl for her grooms, she’s hops straight up onto the table when she comes in and just stands there while being bathed, dried and brushed. She does sometimes get the zoomies when first coming in, or when I move her back onto the table to be dried 😂

How stunning does she look now 😍🥰

I’ve been pretty quiet on the page of late, and there’s a reason (well, two reasons!) … Meet Olive and Quasi 💜

For nearly 5 weeks my life (and house) has been commandeered by these two crazy husky hooligans 🤣 there’s a story behind the situation, but that’s one for another day 🫣

The girls are now 5 and a half months old and had some fairly hefty baggage 💔 we have dealt with -
🐾 Separation anxiety
🐾 Hyper attachment/dependence
🐾 Littermate Aggression/Guarding
🐾 Anxiety
🐾 Lack of socialisation

It has been emotionally and physically exhausting, I have had some fantastic support and understanding from my clients as my diary went completely out the window (along with a good night’s sleep 😴)

We have conquered a LOT 😍 they can function independently of each other, sleep through the night, can be left for short periods in the day, interact with other dogs, enjoy meeting people and actually go adventuring 😭🙏

Olive is ready for a new home 💜 she would benefit from another confident dog in the home and can be homed with older children 😍 however she cannot be homed with cats 🐈❌

Whilst we have made huge progress with socialisation, life skills and manners Olive will need ongoing work 🙏 but she is extremely bright (albeit stubborn) so is motivated and quick to learn with consistency 😍 she is high energy so will need plenty of mental stimulation and exercise 💪

Someone with time, dedication and good boundaries is a must 🙏 If you give her an inch she will take a mile and she is highly creative with her as***le behaviour 🤣 Patience and sense of humour also required … 😂

Here’s cookie who was in for his full groom recently.

Cookie decided one groom a few months ago that he no longer liked having his face dried, but with his mum working with him a lot at home he’s getting better and better every appointment! His most recent groom was a HUGE improvement all thanks to his mums hard work 💜

Biscuit 🍪 and Noodle 🍜

Biscuit and Noodle were in this week for their appointment.

Biscuit was a pro as usual, she just stands on the table, has a little snooze while being dried and having her head done and is a superstar. She is such a sweet quiet dog 🥰

Noodle had his 2nd groom, and was so so good! The first time he was a wiggly worm and so excited but this week he was a lot more calm and took everything in his stride. He has such a big personality and is such a good puppy 🤩
