ππΎ Often the perception of being a dog groomer is that it's a fun job where we get to play with dogs all day that stand like statues whilst getting snuggles and kisses, but the reality is the dogs have other ideas about it π€£
This lovely Cockapoo is an anxious dog and when she first started to visit would continually try throw herself out of the bath and off the table at every opportunity whilst constantly barking just in case I hadn't got the message she wasn't happy. But look at this girl now, I love my job π
.... and yes she does give lots of kisses and snuggles ππΎπ
ππΎ Did someone say its warm, there's a glimmer of sunshine and it's the weekend?!! Gorgeous Cockapoo says it's so πΎπ
ππΎ Being groomed is not always a pleasurable experience for some dogs. It takes time and patience to gain the dog's trust and find ways to help them individually as what may work for one dog doesn't always work for the next. This lovely Collie first came to me scared of the whole process, particularly with water and the driers. He's continuing to making such good progress, dipping in and out of being dried when he's comfortable as you can see. Bathing is carried out with a sponge with the shower kept out of sight but today he stood as good as gold in the bath and even tolerated part of his body being rinsed with the shower π. Lots of little steps leading to great progress and more importantly he's a happy dog ππΎπ
ππΎπSomebody's all spruced up and got her dancing shoes on ready for the weekend π Enjoy the festivities ππΎπ

ππΎ Prevention of tugging the skin when brushingπΎπ
Just a quick video to try show how you can prevent tugging your dog's skin when grooming by having your non brush hand in the section you are brushing.
As you will see my dog hasn't got the best of coats for our amateur demo and could have been a bit more enthusiastic about his cameo role but hopefully will give you the general gist that your non brush hand position will help reduce tugging π
As always any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
ππΎ Fun loving Maltese in for her regular groom. She loves to dance so it's hard to get a photo with feet on the ground but she likes a treat... I'm under no illusions she's the boss and knows what she wants π€£πΎπ
ππΎ Patience and trust πΎπ
This Cockapoo previously was fully restrained and muzzled elsewhere to be groomed. This video is just to show that alot of the time patience and trust is all that is required. This dog would not tolerate the blaster nor his front legs being touched, he's very sensitive when it comes to his front legs and is still work in progress but as you can see I can now use the blaster and he will let me hold his front legs. If I were to switch the blaster speed up his groom would be quicker but problem behaviour would occur. It's all about getting to know the dogs and working with them to ensure a successful groom
ππΎ More homeschooling... πΎπ
Anyone who knows me knows I haven't a competitive bone in my body (π) but having won scrabble on numerous occasions with The Grooming Assistant I had to find a new challenge elsewhere....no cheating involved as you can see Murphy got all the treats but unfortunately couldn't be crowned winner π€£
ππΎ Hide and Find πΎπ
Great way to tire your dogs out mentally and even provide entertainment. Our dogs love playing hide and find whether it be hiding treats around the house or garden, searching for actual scents and my favourite of 'Find Karen' or whoever where we get to join in too. It's easy to teach your dogs and after a handful of hide and finds they're shattered.
Please note no groomers were hurt during filming but if you are as sensible as me please remove glasses and don't hide near a launching site π
Have fun π

ππΎ Spaniel Feet (but can be applied to other breeds as well) πΎπ
I've had a go at putting together a short video to explain how to trim the hair between the toes at the level needed for home grooming.
The purpose of these videos are to help you keep your dogs matt free, we're not entering Crufts at this stage π
Hair between the toes often gets missed and will matt if left too long, particularly noticeable on spaniel feet. The video also shows how to scissor underneath your dog's feet to keep the hair to a minimum.
It is very important to check between your dog's toes regularly and particularly to check for grass seeds during the summer months
Please note the following :
πΎ Use round ended/bull nose scissors
πΎ Dogs move, please be careful. When lifting your dog's foot keep the foot in line with it's body to ensure it is comfortable and not causinn any strain or injury
πΎ If attempting any home grooming try place your dog on a table with a mat to stop your dog slipping as this is how they are used to being groomed
πΎ Do not attempt when your dog is asleep. If they suddenly wake up you could quite easily cut them.
πΎ Remember vets are only operating an emergency service so please be careful as you don't need to be in A & E either!
πΎ If you need any further help or advice please message me
πΎ Keep up the brushing!
