New baby😍

New baby😍

Every breeder knows this moment.
A puppy goes home, the phone buzzes a few days later, and the message starts off warm:

“We love him, but…”

And you already know what’s coming next.

He’s barking.
He’s mouthing.
He’s crying at night.
He’s “a lot.”

But here’s the truth:
That’s not a problem.
That’s puppyhood.

These babies are learning to navigate the world without their mom and littermates for the very first time. They’re overwhelmed, overstimulated, curious, nervous, excited—sometimes all in the same hour. That’s normal. That’s expected.

But a lot of people today want the shortcut.
The Instagram version.
The “perfect” 8-week-old—quiet, calm, obedient, and magically low-maintenance.

They forget that behind every well-trained, well-mannered adult dog is a human who put in the hours. Someone who stuck through the whining, the potty breaks, the mistakes, the lessons, and the growing pains with patience and consistency.

So when someone says, “He’s adorable, but I don’t think we’re a good match,” what they usually mean is:

“I wanted the reward without the responsibility.”

No puppy arrives pre-programmed.
Even the most well-bred babies need time.
They need direction, routine, and someone who won’t fold when it gets inconvenient.

People mistake an easy puppy for a good one.
The truth? Every puppy is good.
They’re just new.
And everything new is messy before it becomes amazing.

As breeders, we see the whole cycle.
We take back the puppies who return confused, scared, and wondering what they did wrong.
And we tell them softly, “It wasn’t you.”

Because it’s never their fault when someone wasn’t prepared for the hard parts that lead to the best parts.

Puppies aren’t trials.
They aren’t accessories.
They’re not something you “test out.”

They’re a commitment—living, breathing little hearts that depend on you completely.

If you’re not ready for the chaotic, exhausting, beautiful mess of puppyhood, that’s okay.
Just wait until you’re ready to give the full commitment they deserve.

These little souls deserve nothing less. 💜🐾

So important to help our dogs through stress!

So important to help our dogs through stress!

If your dog is stressed out by fireworks, then keep things quiet for the next few days!

Not only can stress affect behaviour in the moment, it can lower thresholds in the days that follow a significantly stressful event.

Take extra precaution, especially within social contexts:

🧒 Around children
🐶 🧍‍♂️ Unfamiliar dogs and people
💉 Visiting the vet visits
🍖 Even interactions between familiar dogs can be at more risk of conflict, especially around resources.

🪮 Stress can make dogs more sensitive to touch. For dogs with existing sensitivities, extra caution should be taken within contexts such as grooming, administering topical medications, putting on walking equipment etc.

🗣️ If your dog is reactive on walks, their threshold will likely be lower. Increase your distance from triggers initially, so you can observe if your dog’s tolerance is where it was prior to fireworks. This will help prevent you accidentally setting any progress back.

🔉 If your dog particularly struggles with fireworks, you may see sound their sensitivity generalise to other sounds.
This can commonly include the sound of building works or car doors shutting on walks or outside of the home, as examples.

🎶 Play back ground sound at home and consider walking your dog somewhere more quiet as often as possible for the next few days.

Training should start the day your puppy comes home, and recall is one of the most important skills you can teach!

Let’s face it, many of us deal with dogs that have little to no recall every day, but that definitely shouldn’t be the norm.

Here’s Ozzy in his first session, working through different levels of distractions while practicing his recall.

If you’re struggling with your dog’s recall, reach out to a trainer, it’s absolutely worth it!

Teaching Bonnie to stalk something on cue was the best thing I ever did.

I will never get bored of watching dogs doing what they were bred to do😍

My pets have been registered with Pawsitive Vet Care for several months now and super happy with how everything’s gone. I have dog that doesn’t always love to be handled and after previous bad experiences the staff team at Pawsitive have been so lovely and followed my lead!

I have also had clients and friends feel super confident to take their pets here too!
