I clean my dog’s feet after a walk, especially at this time of year!
1. Reduce ingestion of Bacteria & Contaminants: During walks, your dog’s paws pick up all sorts of things such as: rock salt, urine, mud, and chemicals such as chewing gum. Cleaning their paws helps remove these harmful substances before they lick themselves clean. 💦
2. Injury Prevention: Regularly washing down their feet allows you to check for cuts, scrapes, or injuries, helping you catch any issues early and prevent infections. 🦠
3. Health Monitoring: Cleaning your dog’s paws gives you a chance to monitor their overall paw health. Keeping on top of nail growth and checking for signs of irritation, allergies, foreign objects like thorns, or even parasites like ticks, which may attach during outdoor walks. ❤️

Top Tip Tuesday - Part 3 - How often should my dog be groomed? ✂️🐶🐾
The answer depends on the following factors:
1️⃣ Length of the coat: longer coats and those who shed a lot may need more frequent visits to prevent tangles.
2️⃣ Activity level: more active dogs will generally require more frequent visits to keep the coat free from dirt and parasites.
3️⃣ Coat condition: owners who keep on top of those tangles at home prevent any discomfort between grooming sessions.
4️⃣ Seasonal changes: This can impact the grooming schedule especially for those who need deshedding.
5️⃣ Age considerations: Older dogs can not regulate there temperature as well as younger ones therefore you may want to leave the coat longer and go for a shorter time between grooms.
6️⃣ Health considerations: Dogs with skin conditions or allergies may need more frequent visits to manage any symptoms they may have.

When a dog comes in matted the owner often doesn’t realise how bad they are. It’s our job as groomers to educate owners and working alongside one another to keep your dog’s coat healthy and knot free.
Welfare is my top priority and in order to get a matted coat off in the safest, most stress and pain free way it must be clipped short. The clippers need to get between the skin and the matts to avoid injury
😢 It is not a part of the job I enjoy, matts = pain= aggression sometimes therefore a muzzle is necessary to keep everyone safe
✂️ we must clip the coat short, scissors are unsafe in this situation and any attempted brushing out will hurt your dog
✔️ it can reveal any skin conditions underneath, unfortunately this does happen occasionally
🩸 haematomas, especially on ears can occur from the excess pooling of the blood back into those perviously starved areas
🪳parasites can hide in/ under the matts
💷 matted dogs are more expensive. Grooming takes longer due to the pre clip added on and matted coats dulls clipper blades
