Hello! My name is Jaymi and I am a 4th year veterinary nursing student at Edinburgh Napier University. I am looking to recruit participants to answer a survey for my Honours Project. The title of my project is: An investigative study into owner understanding of feline asthma, and the support received from veterinary practices upon diagnosis. The aim of the survey is to provide veterinary professionals with the information needed to better educate and support cat owners, particularly those with an asthmatic cat.

Any cat owners over 18 years old, from the UK, Ireland or United States can participate, excluding those that have previously worked as a veterinary surgeon, veterinary nurse, or a student in these fields. The survey should not take longer than 20 minutes, and is primarily made up of multiple choice questions. All data collected will remain anonymous, and you are free to withdraw from the survey up until your submit your final answers.

Hello everyone! I started my final placement this week and I’ve had a large number of messages over the last week or so, if I have told you I’d message you back and it’s been a week without hearing from me please feel free to give me a poke! I’ve got a lot to fit in which does make me forgetful. I’m not going to be able to do appointments every Saturday but I’m trying to arrange them the best I can while leaving time for me to do my dissertation after having worked at least 40 hours during the week. Thank you for bearing with me!

DO NOT FEED HEDGEHOGS PUMPKIN

At this time of year, we all end up with lots of spare pumpkin not knowing what to do with them and whilst hedgehogs will happily eat pumpkin, it acts as a laxative. This will cause the hedgehog some problems as at this time of year, it is vital that hedgehogs put on as much weight as possible to give them the best chance of surviving the winter. Instead, leave out some Spike’s Food and plenty of fresh water.

Registered veterinary nurses (RVNs) are trained, highly skilled and dedicated professionals.

However, the title ‘veterinary nurse’ is currently not protected by law. This means that anyone (regardless of any training or experience) can call themselves a veterinary nurse.

The BVNA, British Veterinary Association - BVA and the RCVS - Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons are all in support of protection of the title ‘veterinary nurse’. This has now been recommended to Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) by the RCVS Council, as part of wider legislative change to the 1966 Veterinary Surgeons Act.

Together, our voices are stronger.

🗣️ Tomorrow, on Monday 26th September, BVNA will be launching a survey to enable YOU to have your say on this important issue. We’ll be seeking opinions from across the whole veterinary profession, plus from the public too.

Today is Vet Nurse Day - celebrate the wonderful work of our dedicated veterinary nurses!

A normal day in the life of an RVN is incredibly varied and can involve performing any of the following highly skilled tasks:

🐾 Assisting vets with operations
🐾 Monitoring anaesthetics
🐾 Performing minor surgical procedures (biopsies, suturing wounds, minor lump removal etc)
🐾 Monitoring vital signs (temperature, heart rate, pulse, breathing rate)
🐾 Taking blood samples
🐾 Providing nursing care to patients, e.g. dressing changes, feeding, exercising and grooming

Hello! I am a 4th year veterinary nursing student at Edinburgh Napier and I’m hoping to help people out with some basic services in the local area such as nail clips, applying ear/eye drops, giving medication etc. I’d be looking for £15 for a visit. I’m happy to help with dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small furries. I know how difficult and stressful it can be to get your animal to the vet for something as small as a nail clip, and how much the price can add up on a regular basis.

I am also available to offer basic pet sitting services where I can pop in to feed/medicate/clean out litter trays/cages etc, plus spend some time with your animals while you are away for any reason. I’d be looking for £10-20 per day for this depending on what needs done.
