Could you offer MAE a forever home?

This pretty little cat is very timid and so is looking for a quiet home with a special person who would be willing to wait for her to settle in. Mae came to us at the beginning of December and she hid in her bed for the first week. It has taken some time for her to get used to our routine and finally start coming out for strokes. We feel that Mae is ready to build her confidence in a new home. Because she is timid she is best as a 100% house cat with one or two adults.
At 9 months old Mae is still a baby. She is spayed, microchiped and and vaccinated and is waiting at Stray Aid in Coxhoe, County Durham for her forever hooman ❤️

Hurrah! It's Friday and the weekend is beckoning.
Willow had to wait a long time to find her ideal home, she was waiting with us for 6 months! But she has landed on her paws now. Willow has bags of personality and her new owner says she is always at her side and follows her around the home. We are just sooo pleased that she found the right home in the end 😻

❗Feel Good Friday ❗

Tina is our star this week.

Tina was very loving with our volunteers very quickly and Knee cuddles were a favourite for everyone involved. We knew she would settle in a new home easily as long as cuddles were frequent enough 😹

Tina now has constant fuss, lots of brushing and a new brother 😻 she has settled in wonderfully. No looking back for this little (fluff ball) lady.

SAD hits a lot of people in January. Dark nights, cold weather and the come down after Christmas.

Animals can have a positive impact on mental health and studies have shown that interacting with animals can lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol.

Pets can also provide a sense of companionship and purpose, which can be especially beneficial for people who live alone or feel isolated.

To experience the benefits of animal interaction look into adopting a shelter cat or dog. If you are not in a position to take on a pet then volunteering at local animal shelters is a great idea too.

If you care for a stray or you have a cat that likes to stay out all night and you have an outdoor shelter for them remember to use straw.

It's Feel Good Friday and the weekend is on the horizon 😃 We were so worried about Baxter when he first came in. His owner died and we had no information about him. He was such a friendly boy from the first day but wasn't eating 😢. In fact it was 6 days before he ate anything at all. It's quite common for cats not to eat for the first couple of days as they get their bearings and settle down but 6 days had never happened before. Baxter was obviously grieving for his owner. We were so relieved when he finally started eating. He's a big lad and can barely fit on his new owners knee but is very willing to try. He's settled in to his new home and is loving life again. It's Feel Good Friday 😻 When Missy came into the shelter she was really hissy, spitty, swipey. After a few days our volunteers noticed one of her paws didn't look right. She had to be sedated to be examined but our vet found two claws had grown so long they had pushed into her pads. (Photos of the offending claws in the comments). She must have been in awful pain for a long time. Further examination revealed that she had an old injury of dislocated toes so she hadn't been able to shed the cuticle in the way cats normally do hence the overgrown claws. Missy initially had the claws trimmed and later had the two dislocated toes amputated. The transformation of her personality was instant 🥰. She was super friendly. At 8 years old she is now in her forever home. We are so happy that her new owner trusted us to find the right cat for him and that he was happy to adopt an older cat.
