I would like to wish all my clients old and new a very merry festive Xmas and a wonderful new year
I’m really overwhelmed at how much you’ve all made my dream job a reality
I’ve had such a busy year with social walks , puppy and obedience classes , reactive classes and so many fabulous 121s ( apart from the 3 months off with a broken wrist 😂)
Thank you to each and everyone who has trusted in me and my methods to help some really troubled dogs
I never stop learning and the job is so fulfilling and worthwhile I honestly can’t thank you all enough
I am having some time off after this weekends social walk on the 22nd
I will be back open for business on 4th January
Will respond to messages on the 3rd unless it’s urgent or an emergency assessment
Once again thank you all for tagging me , leaving fab reviews and word of mouth
See you all next year ❤️❤️🐶🦮🐕‍🦺

Reactive dog owners
Having a friendly dog doesn’t determine whether you’re a good owner or not.

What you do with and how you manage that said dog is what determines it.

Someone trying their absolute best to manage a difficult dog, keeping them safe, thinking of the safety of others, putting effort into training them etc is a much better owner in my eyes than someone who got lucky with an easy, friendly dog with no recall that bounds over to everyone and everything.

“It’s okay, he’s friendly” isn’t a badge of honour, when it’s your dog harassing a dog that is clearly uncomfortable with the interaction.

After seeing yet another social media post blaming all reactive dog owners for under-socialising, under-training, mollycoddling, reinforcing their dogs fear through affection etc, I feel like I need to scream from the rooftops:

MIND. YOUR. OWN. BUSINESS.

Reactive dog owners are trying their absolute best. A quick walk for you might feel like scaling Everest for them. They don’t need your ‘advice,’ they need you to respect their space and leave them alone. Until you’ve walked in their shoes, back off.

I see your efforts!

For those of you trying to work through it you are doing awesome!

For anyone struggling with reactivity, Steph and myself will be holding monthly classes full of advice and tips to help you as well as working within a small group of dogs

Having a reactive dog can be a lonely experience that affects your entire life. Knowing there are people out there who understand and empathize makes it easier ❤️
I also hold social walks once a month where your dogs are taught to ignore others and walk within a pack
I also offer 121 s if you’d rather not be in a group !

⚠️trigger warning ⚠️ I don’t want to talk about these horrific deaths of young children in their own homes.
But we need to be more aware of what’s happening and I want to share with you exactly what to do if you’re ever in this situation! Please if you’re a parent make sure you read this as I will explain exactly what to do in a dog attack on a child.

The details have emerged about the tragic death of a 10 year old girl killed by the family pet.
The similarities between this case and the one I talked about this week with the malinois who killed a baby are terrifying!
-Both were trusted family pets with access to young children.
-Both incidents were said to be totally out of character for the dog.
-Both attacks happened in the family home.
-Both were incredibly fast and fatal.
-Both girls died from neck injuries
-Both families have been destroyed.

So please remember if a dog latches on to a person or child (or dog)there is only one way to stop the attack and that is to
➡️STOP THE DOG BREATHING!! ⬅️
You can use a belt/rope/lead/collar and twisting it around the dogs neck as high up to the jaw as possible until the dog lets go or by damaging the windpipe enough to stop them breathing.
➡️If they can’t BREATHE they can’t BITE⬅️

❌DO NOT waste time hitting or kicking the dog this will only agitate them and the chances of a dog letting go are very slim.
❌DO NOT try to pull the dog or pull the child out of the dog’s jaws, if the dog is latched on as it simply means the dog will bite harder to not release their grip.
❌DO NOT assume the dog will just stop the attack when you choke them - If you release the dog’s bite immediately secure the dog in another room/space/car as the potential is they will attempt to reattach themselves to the victim if given the opportunity.
❌NEVER leave your dog and child unattended! NEVER have a dog in the same room as a baby or toddler. Prevention is better than cure!
❌REMEMBER both these families would never have thought their pets would kill their child either and trusted them enough to be in the home freely together.
