BOTH CLASSES NOW FULL , many thanks to all who have booked a space Do you struggle with your dog ? Are walks an absolute nightmare ? Is it a frustrated greeter pulling barking lunging to get to every dog it sees ? Perhaps it’s anxious / scared so has learnt to bark to put distance between itself and other dogs , perhaps it’s genetics / reactive
We are here to help you and give you real life training scenarios and to teach you more focus : engagement / loose lead walking and how to help your reactive dog
Next good behaviour for reactive dogs class

As lambing season begins, the countryside fills with the sight, scent, and sound of vulnerable newborn animals. These young lambs are inquisitive, unsteady, and highly susceptible to harm, making it crucial for dog owners to take extra precautions. Whether you walk in rural areas regularly or just e...

My very dog filled weekend ended with a 121 with my little pal “ buddy “ a collie / kelpie cross ! some of you may recognise him from last weeks class
Buddy had an horrific start to life and missed all vital socialising so by the time Julie rescued him he was terrified and reactive to everything outside , he had learnt that by barking and lunging that everything went away
I do believe that in his genetics he’s very triggered by movement too !
A very reinforcing behaviour for a dog but obviously a wrong choice
I sent Julie away a few weeks ago with homework of getting more engagement more fun more play outside as buddy was so tense and fixated on everything he found it hard to even take a treat
This video may not look much to some but to buddy , Julie and I it’s massive steps In the right direction 💙

Dogs are self-serving swindlers. Always in tune with the present moment, dogs make choices based on fulfilling their very own personal desires. So no, they don’t sit and ponder all day on what needs to be done to get you to take them to the local park. Their actions are based in the NOW, and how much immediate gratification their choice brings.

—If jumping on guests, or you, gets them any attention... they’ll keep jumping.
—If barking at the back door to be let in gets you off of the couch... they’ll keep barking.
—If whining gets you to cuddle and sweet talk them out of discomfort... they’ll keep whining.
—If pawing at your leg or hand gets you to throw their ball... they’ll keep demanding you do it.
—If whining or barking while in the crate gets you to let them out... they’ll keep doing it.
—If charging out the front door ahead of you gets them outside quicker... they’ll keep doing it.
—If lunging and growling at other dogs or humans gets them to move further away... they’ll keep doing it.
—If pulling on the leash gets them to that tree they want to mark... they’ll keep doing it.
—If growling when trying to take the ball away gets you to move away... they’ll keep doing it.

The bad news is, when this “stuff” is left unaddressed, and continues to be practiced, it all intensifies and gets worse. Way worse. The more something works to self-serve, the more frequently it will occur.

It’s our job to let our dogs know what works for them isn’t necessarily what works for us. Effective leadership, with both yes and no, encourages our dogs to make RESPECTFUL choices based on what WE allow, not what is self-serving to them.
