🦷 Kiwi is all smiles after his dental procedure to extract his Lingually Displaced Mandibular Canines (LDMCs)

🦷 LDMCs occur when a dog’s lower puppy or adult canine teeth erupt in an abnormal position, pressing into the palate causing pain and risk of infection. This is also sometimes accompanied by a shorter-than-normal lower jaw.

🐶 This developmental condition is often breed-associated and considered to have a genetic component, so affected dogs and their close relatives should not be bred to prevent passing it on.

From summer to early autumn, these tiny seeds (also called barley seeds or awns) are at their worst. Sharp + sneaky, they easily get stuck in your dog’s ears, paws, eyes, or nose - and once in, they don’t fall out on their own.

👉 Signs to look out for: head shaking, paw licking/limping, sneezing, or red eyes.
👉 Prevention: check your dog after walks, keep fur neat, and avoid long dry grass where possible.

If you spot a problem, call us straight away - quick removal saves a lot of pain (and vet trips later!). 💚
