Why Harris Equine Advises Veterinary Referral but Does Not Diagnose
At Harris Equine, the welfare of every horse is our top priority. You may notice that while we are highly trained in equine care and behaviour, we do not diagnose medical conditions. Instead, if we have concerns, we will always advise a referral to a veterinary surgeon. (which we are not)
This is because we work in full compliance with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, which makes it clear that:
๐น Only qualified veterinary surgeons are legally permitted to diagnose, prescribe treatment, or perform surgical procedures on animals.
๐น As equine professionals, our role is to observe, support, and highlight when veterinary attention may be required.
๐น By referring to a vet promptly, we ensure horses receive the correct medical expertise and treatment for their individual needs.
๐ Our Commitment:
We operate responsibly and ethically.
We prioritise equine welfare above all else.
We work alongside vets and other professionals to provide the best care and outcomes for your horse.
In short, we advise โ we do not diagnose.
By staying within our professional remit, we protect both horses and their owners, while maintaining compliance with UK legislation.
๐ด Harris Equine โ putting horse welfare first, always.
