This arrived in the mail today! 🤩 (A little late, since I didn’t attend my graduation.)

Completing an additional research degree has improved my clinical practice as a vet. It gave me a deeper understanding of canine dermatology, and also helped refine my evidence-based and patient-centred approach, which applies to all species and conditions. 👩🏻‍🔬🤓

I know it’s the season for Christmas posts - and don’t worry, those will come soon! But last week, my own dog Rory turned a whopping 1️⃣2️⃣! 🥳😱

Did you know that most cats are considered a senior at 10 years old, and most dogs around 8? So, let’s talk about arthritis! 👵🏻👴🏻

Rory has hip dysplasia, which makes her prone to developing osteoarthritis. There are lots of things we can do for our pets’ joints as they get older:

⚖️ Keep their weight under control, ideally a little on the lean side! This helps prevent unnecessary strain on their joints.

🦴 Supplements! Either standalone or in a specially formulated diet, these can be a great way to get extra nutrients that support joint health and cartilage preservation.

💉 Antibody therapy! When supplements aren’t enough, we can give monthly injections that prevent pain signals from causing discomfort.

💊 Pain relief: Tailored treatment plans help keep your pet comfortable, while routine monitoring allows us make any changes when necessary.
