You haven’t seen these girls on here for a while, you usually see them running a riot on my wee videos that we enjoy making when we are out on our walks.

For them this summer has been a bit of a right off as they both have had operations and recovery from malignant mammary carcinoma.

The good news is they are both doing well and on the road to recovery, still on short lead walks for the next few weeks, all being well, they will be back to their usual cheeky self soon. ❤️

🐾When a dog gets too hot and is unable to reduce its body temperature by panting, it will develop heatstroke - which can kill. Do you know what symptoms to look out for?

🐾Warning signs of heatstroke
Heavy panting and difficulty breathing
Excessively drooling
The dog appears lethargic, drowsy or uncoordinated
Collapsed or vomiting

🐾Emergency First Aid for dogs
Here's what to do:

🐾Move the dog to a shaded and cool area
Immediately pour cool (not cold to avoid shock) water over the dog. Tap water (15-16°C) has been found to be the most effective at cooling dogs with heat-related illnesses. In a true emergency, any water is better than nothing.
🐾Wet towels placed over the dog can worsen the condition, trapping heat. In mild cases towels can be placed under the dog, but never over, and in a true emergency water immersion or pouring water with air movement is ideal.
🐾Allow the dog to drink small amounts of cool water
Continue to pour cool water over the dog until their breathing starts to settle, but not too much that they start shivering
🐾Dogs that have lost consciousness will stop panting, despite still having a very high temperature, these dogs require urgent aggressive cooling as a priority.
🐾Throughout the treatment of heatstroke try to avoid pouring water on or near your dog's head, as there is a risk of them inhaling water which could lead to drowning, especially for flat-faced and unconscious dogs.
Once the dog is cool, take them to the nearest vet as a matter of urgency.

🐾Some types of dogs are more prone to heatstroke, like very old or young dogs, dogs with thick, heavy coats or dogs with very short flat faces like pugs and bulldog types. Dogs with certain diseases or on some types of medication are also more at risk.

Heatstroke can be fatal for dogs. Learn what the symptoms are and how to care for a dog showing signs of heatstroke after being in a hot car.

ROUNDUP REMOVER!⚠️

Replace those harmful chemical-based lawn products that negatively impact your pet’s health with this DIY W**d Remover on page 257 of our new book The Forever Dog LIFE.

In 2019 scientists concluded that exposure to herbicides can increase the risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in humans by 41%!☠️ And while we can read the “keep off” signs after applying it, our dogs are not only rolling on it, they are nibbling, digging and smelling those DNA-damaging molecules every day; herbicides can remain active in the soil up to 6 months or longer.🧪

Several studies have confirmed the link between herbicide-treated lawns and cancer in dogs. Dogs whose owners have had their lawns professionally treated have a 70% higher risk of lymphoma, and the lymphoma risk goes even higher for dogs whose owners applied insecticides to their outside spaces 😱.

🥦Food and nutrition aren't the only factors for your animals to live a long and healthy life, environment plays an equally important role!🏡 This is why the second half of our book is called THE FOREVER HOME, because it teaches you how to make your home (and yard) as healthy as possible, with easy hacks and recipes to create your own non-toxic cleaner and lawn care solutions.

🏷Temporarily discounted at most major retailers, COMMENT “FOREVER” and I’ll message you the link to get your copy now!

Solar storms and how it may impact your dogs.

Scientific studies have repeatedly demonstrated that dogs are sensitive to geomagnetic changes.

Currently the earth is experiencing a powerful solar storm. It's effects on our dogs should not be underestimated. Especially our sensitive working dogs who are bred to have a heightened sense of direction. Dogs who are anxious or nervous may experience exacerbated symptoms. Dogs are sensitive to even small changes in the earth's magnetic field, this current storm is big and disruptive.

Epileptic dogs and people may be affected. There is a huge body of evidence relating to solar storms and seizures, have a little Google, there's too many relevant bits of literature to post here.

What can you do? Dogs are at increased risk of becoming disorientated in new environments, keep them on lead, in sight, have a heightened awareness of where they are. For dogs who rely on their sense of direction for work such as sheepdogs working hills, search and rescue dogs, tracking dogs, hunting dogs and trail dogs, it might be worth evaluating putting off any work where a dog may get lost. This is not me being a f***y either, I've already heard of a couple of normally savvy dogs becoming lost and disoriented in the north of Scotland, out of character for them.

In humans existing mental health conditions can worsen temporarily, particularly conditions caused by or associated with trauma, where your integral ability to orientate becomes distrupted and makes you feel unsafe, increasing anxiety and hypervigilance. This change in your presentation can also impact your dogs.

Just something to be aware of. As much as it sounds like hippy woo woo nonsense, I can assure you, it's a thing.

"the idea that animals can detect Earth’s magnetic field has traveled the path from ridicule to well-established fact in little more than one generation. Dozens of experiments have now shown that diverse animal species, ranging from bees to salamanders to sea turtles to birds, have internal compasses. Some species use their compasses to navigate entire oceans, others to find better mud just a few inches away."
