Casey & Eddie out trail hunting today - it was lovely to be made so welcome in Seavington country with The East Devon hounds 🐶

Both horses were faultless. We had plenty of tack to clean when we got home - always a sign of a brilliant day!

It was particularly special to see one of our favourite Probus Graduates Tommy out today he’s matured into an absolute machine of a hunter and is a credit to his top jockey Connie 👌🏼

All of the horses behaved impeccably, gave 110% and all went home having learnt something! A brilliant day of schooling, the new arrivals are settling well and you’d think they’d always been here!

Casey & Johnny out with The EDH today 🐶

Casey is such a kind natured horse, he has impeccable manners and stands like a dream at the meet. He’s a gentleman to anyone around him, horses and hounds included! - A big, athletic, blood horse that has ALL the capability to cross big country….

Roy and Joe out trail hunting with The EDH today 🐶

It goes without saying that Roy is absolutely STUNNING, he was the perfect gentleman and did a fabulous job of nannying Joe! He is currently here for some schooling but a change of circumstances for his owner means that he may be looking for a new postcode 🏡 👀

We bought Joe as a rising 2YO and have slowly backed him ourselves - today was his first time hunting and first experience ridden away from home! We had a couple of green baby moments, as to be expected, but there was SO much to like and we are really looking forward to producing him over the summer! He learnt a huge amount about the world today and has deserved some down time to let that baby brain process…

Rising 4YO Joe’s first time seeing clippers today, it just goes to show how far building trust with young horses can get you… a full clip and he stood like an absolute dream he has no reason to fear new experiences & has such a great brain that he just loves to be involved in every interaction!

🇮🇪 With a trip to Ireland imminent we need a reliable member of the team and immediate start would be preferred!

We are a family run sales and producing yard looking for someone to join our team.

We are looking for a keen individual to join us as a Part-time Groom at Probus Farm - based in Exeter, Devon.

🔵 This is a FLEXIBLE position - aside from a weekend day commitment on occasion, days / hours can be discussed with applicants on an individual basis.

Young horses are our passion & we predominantly produce Hunter / Eventers, specialising solely in Irish Imports.

The right applicant will need to;

✅ BE RELIABLE!!!!!

✅ Be confident handling horses of all ages and sizes

✅ Help exercise horses (hacking out confidently in company is the basic expectation)

✅ Be competent lunging

✅ Be competent in all aspects of general yard management.

✅ Must have a driving license & own transport

✅ 18+ years only

✅ Commit to yard cover on one weekend day occasionally and the remaining days can be flexible.

Immediate start available, yard competence is essential as there will be an expectancy of sole charge on occasions.

Weekly hours can be flexible and discussed on an individual basis ideally someone able to commit to a minimum 2/3 mornings per week to include weekend days on occasions (roughly 8.30am to 2pm) and additional holiday cover when required - More hours available in future if desired!!

💪🏼 More than happy to consider a less experienced applicant that is hardworking and keen to learn!

🎅🏼 Boxing Day Meet today for Charlie & Eddie.

A brilliant day had with friends!

Both boys are absolutely FANTASTIC - they’ve had a quiet few days over Christmas doing very little riding and they came out today, both stood like a dream at the meet and didn’t get silly or fresh at any point in the day - EXACTLY what you want in a Hunter!!

If they’re this amazing as a 4YO & 5YO, just imagine what they’re going to become…

Both horses were exceptionally well behaved and were a complete pleasure to have out.

We had a brilliant day, it was lovely to explore new country and we were made to feel incredibly welcome - we’re looking forward to joining them again!

Joe Long Reining Today..

Our 3YO Joe has been out long reining today with Nuala & our superstar Pony 🦄 We believe positive groundwork sessions are the most important part of the backing process for all of our young horses… 🌍 He is seeing the world around him, confidently, without the pressure of a rider - he’ll be turned away again now to process what he has learnt and come back in a few months time to learn some more!

Our lovely Orla showing her patience and maturity to this situation…

Luckily for this dog, Orla is an absolute saint with dogs (thanks to her hunting experience!) 🐶 The beach is a shared space.. if your dog has no recall then keep it on a lead. If roles reversed and a horse was to intrude a walkers space there would be outrage. As animal people we find the attitude of “it’s fine they’ll learn if they get kicked” is totally unacceptable.. we don’t want to teach our hunters that dogs are something to fear or react defensively towards and we don’t want to injure a dog that’s been let down by its owners negligence! When we attempted to move off the dog was biting at Orla’s fetlocks and took chase behind her so we found it was safer to remain still. Eventually we actually had to dismount and return the dog to the owner ourselves…
