Looking back on 2025, it’s been hard work and very sad at times when you see some of the horrible injuries these poor creatures suffer and all rehabbers feel we should be able to save every hedgehog that comes through the door but reality is you just can’t.

But I’m pleased to say I returned 116 healthy hedgehogs back to the wild last year which for a little rescue like mine is quite good, I think and reminds you it’s worth it.🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔

Another beautiful tiny girl in this morning luckily spotted by Sue running across her lawn in the frost, only 200g.

Then another hopeful a girl as she has been named Lotty after being found in their allotment. She is still warming and not playing ball by staying in one, again only 250g.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately but I’ve been finding it quite hard going lately, with nearly all hedgehogs arriving in extremely poor condition and requiring a lot of care and even worse some missing limbs the poor babies struggle on regardless in horrible pain probably caused by traps or strimmers. Sadly I’ve lost a few and it takes a toll. Some of the newbies are Cappuccino, Mocha, Latte, Coffee and Bean.

On a brighter note managed a few releases it the gaps in the weather. Sonia, Cookie and Smile.

Please remember that all hedgehogs out in the day at the moment need help quickly not later or tomorrow but ASAP. Please contain the hedgehog first keep wrapped in a towel with a warm hot water bottle or similar in a box and keep somewhere warm making sure they can’t escape. Contact me or your local rescue. Poorly hogs are very prone to hyperthermia so keeping warm is the priority as once the organs start shutting down there’s not a lot of hope.

Next to arrive yesterday evening was skinny so thin and cold weighing 450g but should be double that, I struggled to tell if he was alive. Sadly he was found the previous morning and kept in a cold shed for 36 hours before being brought in. Amazingly after 2 lots of fluids and some intensive warming he dragged himself to the food bowl and started eating. It’s early days but he’s putting up good fight. (Photos don’t show how thin he actually is and so weak he couldn’t stand)
