Collected this biggish boy from city vets this morning where he was drop off by a woman who found him in a bag of compost in her garden but refused to have him back, but although not nice he can’t go home it is a blessing in disguise as he’s actually quite poorly with fluke and lots of lungworm. He he’s also skinny for his size so although he looks a big hog he’s still very underweight.

Within 5 mins this little boy 200g arrived so he got the name Nigel🤣 very skinny and poorly with flystrike, poohing blood and with a full set of internal parasites lung and roundworm also fluke.

Sadly the big rescue down the road only does office hours and refused to take it at 5pm told finder to keep warm and check for flystrike until the morning when they would take it, finders didn’t know what flystrike looked like but luckily they then brought it to me. The flystrike would have been maggots by the morning and he would have probably in a collapsed state if still alive.

He’s doing well so far with flystrike removed, fluids given and treatment started he’s eating well so 🤞🤞🙏🙏

This little camera shy girl is Nigella finders wanted to call him Nigel but as he is a she its Nigella. She came in at 136g but ate really well overnight. But is poorly with Fluke and lungworm.

Little Olive only 120g arrived this afternoon named after the young girl that found her. Luckily they didn’t have far to bring her as they live on my road.

Sunday I also had another little girl in but sadly I had to take her to the vets yesterday as she was gasping for breath and their opinion was that she was too poorly to respond to treatment. It’s so sad to see them like this. 🥲🌈💕

But fingers crossed Olive is in better condition so, so are her chances🤞🤞

2 siblings arrived today from Starcross found separately serval hours apart both very thin babies only weighing 119g and 150g. Both carrying their body weight in fleas poor babies must have felt horrible. It’s a really bad year for fleas probably due to the hot summer, as much as a lot of people think all hedgehogs have fleas it’s not true usually it’s only the odd few and they are usually very sick.

New boy Ricardo seen out about in the day for a few days. Please remember out in the day is not ok, always check with a rescue if your not sure. The only exception are pregnant females and she will be moving with purpose just getting bedding or food and straight back to her nest not just pottering or laying around.

The mum and babies that I reunited after a badger destroyed their house and they ended up in 2 separate gardens went off to their new home today the lovely Eileen’s hedgehog friendly garden. The babies are on the verge of independence so hopefully mum can teach them to cope in the wild.
