Another marathon wknd ….. Of mega early starts but it proven to be a worthwhile wknd for my both my mares even in this πŸ₯΅ weather 😰

Sat -
was a interesting day of tests Cracker started of nice in warm up then just decides goes a little against the contact in 1st test then decided to retake situation for 2nd to then gane another 6% so happy πŸ˜€
Cassie .. Was a little tense due to a change of tack / bit so expected scores to be low & a new test for us E57 starting some simple changes that we’ve only just been working on this wk .

Sun …. What a difference a day makes 🫣πŸ₯Ή

Cracker was really good & I thought best tests to date apart from a few head tossing in our left canter work (but a bit annoyed πŸ˜’ or confused 🫀 on a comment the judge made her having anxiety??!! ) that’s a new comment on me πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Cassie just felt so much happier today even tho πŸ₯΅ gave me a lovely Novice test with 4 x 8’s then I f**ked it up with a sat nav error 😩
Then our 2nd attempt at E55 which felt good with a lot of tiny mistakes but so happy that she felt willing & better in the frame .

So a mixture of colours in the ribbons but it’s the % that have made me so happy 😁 And to top it off we actually won πŸ₯‡ some prize money back that’s been a looooong time coming 🀣🀣🀣🀣

Thanks to STC- Trailers, Trucks & Towbars for the hire of there Overlander Vehicles 🀩

Another outing this wknd at seems like a very long time since competed at Netherton Equestrian (May 2022 to be exact 😯 ) as was supposed to compete in November but had my accident !!
Stepped back up to Elementary which Cassie warmed up lovely & felt really good going into test but it’s like a switch when she went between the whiteboards & became tense , against the hand & same with the Novice , some lovely moments & really positive comments from both judges πŸ™‚ .
Was supposed to compete Cracker but had to withdraw πŸ˜” but Sunday Cracjer decided as she didn’t get to a pony party she would have a colic episode on Sunday morning 😫 all good & back to normal again πŸ˜ƒ .

Horses have a great way of grounding us from reality & telling us when to work harder & no way is training a easy process .

Onwards & upwards to another outing again with both girls πŸ˜‰

Thanks to Kayleigh Stewart for calling & Dylan Stewart for filming .

πŸ“Έ great photos & speedy service from Hugo HKF Photography 😍

Positive side …. 1st sheet for Petplan Equine Area Festivals at Elementary 😁

This is a very interesting read

'Suppleness'

OK, so there's lateral suppleness, then there's longitudinal suppleness. The former is the bend around the inside leg on corners and circles, where the spine of the horse needs to be on the circumference of the circle or route through the corner. The latter, is the degree of coming through of the body from behind freely with hocks engaging, muscles rippling through a supple frame with long and unrestricted strides, to the bit.

Lateral suppleness: Quite often, it's clear that a particular horse bends one way more willingly than the other way, and so I look to see if there's corners being ridden deeper one way than the other. If a horse is lacking sufficient body bend, showing no bend, or indeed has the wrong bend, then this will be noticed. The deduction I make will depend on the degree of lack of lateral suppleness. So a horse that's showing very little bend or no bend will appear little 'wooden' and a minor deduction made, whereas a horse with incorrect bend with the shoulder falling in will get a larger deduction.
Tests where there's 2 x half 10m circles from B to E or vica versa enable anyone sitting at C to clearly assess the supple change of lateral bend, or otherwise. To me, a lack of lateral bend is a result of stiffness, tension or bad riding. Usually a combination.

Tip: There are many ways to show more inside bend than you currently have and although it may not feel totally through and elastic, it will appear more correct and even. Think outside the box and do what you have to to achieve it (open up the inside hand, varying degree of vibration down the rein, firmer inside leg with a looser ankle..) ensuring the rhythm and stride length are not compromised. In training, work with your trainer on suppling exercises so that you don't need to make these adjustments so positively in a test environment (leg yields, shoulder-in, renvers, travers, half pass). Also try control the quarters on corners and circles, as a neck bend may be one box ticked, but quarters swinging out is most definitely not.

Longitudinal suppleness: The length of stride or degree of overtrack is a clear indication of how much longitudinal suppleness there really is. At the lower levels, I don't expect much more than a horse with a clear and even overtrack in walk, a tracking up in trot, and a round loose action in canter. Connection is next on the Scales of Training, and that deserves a post on its own, but to me longitudinal suppleness is appreciated most when the energy that's created ripples through un-restricted muscles through the body with long strides into an elastic contact. It's only as you go up the levels that I'm looking for joints that bend well with even foot flight and spring in the steps.

Tip: Increasing the speed in walk, trot and canter won't necessarily increase the stride length, it won't necessarily make the longitudinal suppleness appear better either. Conversely, too slow a pace will not improve the ability of the horse to show off his/her suppleness. This is far more common in tests, as it feels comfortable to sit to and is an easier ride. So It's about a balance. Vary the connection, work within the gears of the 3 paces and marry up the feel on top to the actual stride length seen from the side. It may initially feel that your hurrying a little to achieve a trot that tracks up, but work on the quality of the trot at that pace with suppling exercises and transitions to normalise that feel. Make it more comfortable for you and the horse.
One things for sure, if you do the same as you've always done then you'll get what you've always got!

Horses make my life what it is … Every single one of my horses are at different stages of there life’s /training. Victor who is my exracer has come back into work after having a long time of to mature & develop into a stronger boy, photos is before & after being worked πŸ˜‚. We forget how much it takes out a horse retraining them .
Cracker was the biggest milestone today 19wks after our freak accident & a few little issues prior to today which felt good to plan ahead for our 2023 together .
Cassie is becoming stronger , fitter , supple to even contemplate our first competition.
Izzie is due to foal any day now 😬 /

11/03/2023

Last night was a milestone since exactly 18wks since my last lsn since my accident . What can I say sack the rider as forgot how to actually ride ! After a constructive feedback & some valuable guidance we got back on track . Forgot how unfit & overweight I am & how that alters your training for yourself & your horse carrying my lard ass on board . This has given me the insight on lots to achieve & work on for our homework for the next few wks

Competing season could be getting a little closer πŸ™„ Cassie & Victor fully clipped … Cracker on waiting list to be done βœ… Maeve Sheridan - Animal Physio Plus was out today to give my guys there annual
Sessions with good feedback all horse looking & feeling good with little issues to improve on πŸ‘πŸ» with some guidance for continued fitness . I also had a session with Maeve earlier in the month to make sure I was level & in balance to start riding again 😁. We forget how much we need to do to keep these animals & ourselves in some sort of fitness level to do them justness . But I’m in no rush to produce my horses as had quite some time off with my injury & to regain there fitness levels & mine .
My goal is to loose the extra weight gained after accident , horses is to become fitter , more supple & always to encourage a variety of work for them which is hard sometimes as my horses love to be in work …. Feeling more positive each day

Taking a step back today & taking time out to support a few of my liveries made me reflect on life with horses today !
No matter the age , experience of any horse or rider we sometimes have to go back to basics & what a difference in that journey it makes . It makes me proud πŸ₯Ή if being a tiny part of there progress of being a small part of taking care of there horses but watching there highs & some time lows on how they all take the time out to develop, progress, train & gain the trust & partnerships with there horses πŸ˜‰ sportsmanship in equestrian world does not always resolve round the height your horse jumps , what percentage the get , how fast a time the get .
It’s above improving your training , your partnership with your horse , improving your knowledge, achieving your goals

Some thing exciting happened today !!😁

Ps…. Don’t tell my consultant 😬

We’re back on board after 13wks out the saddle & on the road to recovery even though not going as planned & need to go back to have another op to remove plate but can’t at moment as bones not healing as it should πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ clearly you can see on X-rays . So decided today was the day & play each day as it goes with each horse . Cassie was the horse of a lifetime by looking after her old mum & not putting a foot wrong to the disgust of my daughter when start cantering round area over poles oops 😜🀣😘

Life hasn’t stopped even though slightly broken , been working 5 horses a day with help of Kayleigh breaking the lovely Skye , in hand work , lunging & fittening work with my 3

2023 has now begun …. HUGE THANKS to my daughter Kayleigh for lunging them first wk . But so great being at the other end of the lunging line myself & handling my youngsters again πŸ₯° not rushing & still doing as I’m told until next appt with my consultant on 27th Jan (this takes a lot of self control ) .
Nerves or being afraid has never come into my mind working my horses even with Cracker after the freak accident .
I was so kindly offered help from Sara Brown practioner & spiritual healer - Sara Brown to help with the healing process of myself & to help with Cracker .
Which has helped immensely with Crackers underlying issues & energy levels causing some issues & also to help the healing process for my arm & underlying energy levels stemming back to passing of my parents .
For me to me forward for myself & my horses needed to source a different outlook & give the best possible start of a way forward for a better partnership for the upcoming year .
