Pip's Cottage will soon be opening its doors again for another year.
We have already started taking bookings for the Easter Holidays, so if you need your Guinea pigs, rabbits or hamster looking after while your away please get in touch.

Our prices have slightly increased this year. As shown.

Hamster £2.00 per day in own cage
Guinea Pig £2.50 each per day
Rabbit (Small) £4.50 each per day
Rabbit (Large) £5.50 each per day

CHANGES TO BOARDING!

Hello from Pip’s Cottage. I hope your all enjoying the summer holidays and this glorious sunshine.

Can i just say how lucky we have been. We have had some fantastic pets stay with us this year. They have all been well behaved and my children have loved helping to look after them.

I will be closing throughout the week from 5th September and only offering 2-night boarding Friday to Sunday until the end of September.
I will be closing from 1st October and re-opening again in April 2023 in time for the Easter Holidays.

From April next year I will only be able to offer School Holiday Cover but can offer 2-night boarding Friday to Saturday until the end of September 2023.

Weekend boarding hours will be:
Friday – 5pm-7pm
Saturday – 9am-12pm then 5pm-7pm
Sunday – 5pm–7pm
School Holiday Cover will remain the same hours as this year. (Please see hours on my page)

Thank you to everyone who has used Pip’s Cottage this year. We hope to see you again next year.

Tips for keeping your Guinea Pigs cool!

1) Make sure your guinea pig has access to clean, fresh water.
2)Give your guinea pig frozen treats.
3)Keep your guinea pig out of direct sunlight.
4)Keep guinea pigs cool with a fan or air conditioner.
5)Use a damp towel to cool your guinea pig down.
6)Let your guinea pig chill out with an ice pod.
7)Freeze ice packs or water bottles.
8)Remove excess hair.
9)Give your guinea pig a cool wipe-down.
10)Add a tunnel.

Symptoms of Heatstroke in Guinea Pigs

Knowing how to cool guinea pigs down in summer is vital, but what happens if the temperatures rise and your piggies get too much sun. Recognising the common signs of heatstroke is the first step in keeping your pet safe.

Symptoms of heatstroke include:

Restlessness, Panting, Lethargy, Excessive salivating, Increased heart rate, Discoloured gums, Convulsions.

If your guinea pig shows any of these symptoms, you must act fast as heatstroke can be fatal. Seek veterinary attention immediately.

Tips for keeping your rabbits cool!

1) Mind the temperature.
2)Provide plenty of shade.
3)Have your cooling bottles ready.
4)Lots of cool water.
5)Limit outdoor activity.
6)Brush your bunny to remove excess hair.

Learn the Signs of Heat Stress

Like flystrike, heat stress can come on quickly and turn deadly fast. Here are some signs of heat stress:

Rapid breathing, Hot and/or red ears, Wet fur below the nose, Open mouth, Flared nostrils, Lethargy.

If your bunny appears overheated, place them on a cool, damp towel and seek veterinary attention immediately. Never place your rabbit in a cold bath.

My name is Eleanor, and this is my new business venture. I have wanted to set up my own small animal boarding business for a while now and have finally got the opportunity to do it.
I have two children one whom which is very excited to help. So, I will have plenty of hands to make sure your pets are looked after.
I’m hoping to run for the summer months as housing is mainly outside.
I have experience with all the above animals I’ve had rabbits, hamsters, and guinea pigs (two of which I have now) from being very young. I have lots of other animals
Your pets will be looked after in a safe environment and will get plenty of attention.

Your pet’s accommodation:
Your pet/pets will be housed in secure accommodation outside with shavings and hay and a supply of fresh veg supplied every day. If your pets are usually housed inside, then I will need to know this upon booking.
Pet’s such as hamsters will be kept in the house in their own cage unless you have requested them to be handled daily or have bought an exercise ball with you.
I would ask if you could supply your pet’s dry food so not to upset your pet’s diet.

Exercise:
There is adequate room in the cages for your pets to stretch their legs. Pets will have access to an outside run-on fresh grass for playtime. If the weather is not pleasant and you have requested playtime for your pets, then they can have the indoor play pen. (Please let me know this on booking) The outside run will be used under supervision to make sure all pets are playing happily.

Health and Hygiene:
All rabbits must be vaccinated and a copy of the vaccination card to be handed over on arrival. Guinea pig’s need to be up to date with mite treatment.
Rabbit and guinea pig housing will be cleaned out twice a week and any soiled bedding will be changed daily.
The housing is cleaned and disinfected after every stay, so you can be assured that your pet is coming into a clean and sterile environment.
All pets will exercise and be housed separately unless they are bonded from the same household.
Hamster bedding such as fleece/paper or wool will have to be brought with them, but shavings will be provided unless you have requested alternate bedding.

Handling:
Please let me know upon booking if you wish for your pet to have regular handling.

Guinea Pig £2.00 per day
Small rabbit £4.00 per day
Large rabbit £5.00 per day
