On March 11, 889, a 22-year-old Japanese emperor wrote in his diary about his new black cat.

“On the 6th Day of the 2nd Month of the First Year of the Kampo era. Taking a moment of my free time, I wish to express my joy of the cat. It arrived by boat as a gift to the late Emperor, received from the hands of Minamoto no Kuwashi.

The color of the fur is peerless. None could find the words to describe it, although one said it was reminiscent of the deepest ink. It has an air about it, similar to Kanno. Its length is 5 sun, and its height is 6 sun. I affixed a bow about its neck, but it did not remain for long.

In rebellion, it narrows its eyes and extends its needles. It shows its back.

When it lies down, it curls in a circle like a coin. You cannot see its feet. It’s as if it were circular Bi disk. When it stands, its cry expresses profound loneliness, like a black dragon floating above the clouds.

By nature, it likes to stalk birds. It lowers its head and works its tail. It can extend its spine to raise its height by at least 2 sun. Its color allows it to disappear at night.

I am convinced it is superior to all other cats.”

So what are Happy Kitty Blankets?

HKB were originally created to help rescue cats adjust when arriving in rescue. Since we never knew what type of temperament each cat would have, we wanted something that could cater to all needs.

Our blankets are tough 100% cotton blankets wrapped around a scent sachet and packaged in a glass jar.
The scent sachet contains our natural mixture of five different dried plants. Each plant has its own properties that when mixed together create a complex scent, which is absorbed by the blanket, so you can give your kitty the blanket to do with as they wish. Some like to rat it, some slobber, some cuddle, some just like to sit on it and inhale the scent…..some like to stride around wearing it as a toga.😹
The cats are able to take from the scent what they need at that particular moment.

For example a hyperactive cat can become calmer and more sedate. A timid cat can come out of its shell and become playful.

We’ve had customers who use the blanket purely for play, some for chronic anxiety, some for temporary anxiety such as vet trips or moving house.
Some use it for introducing new cats to each other, some for hyperactivity or hyperesthesia and others for stimulation for elderly, blind or ill cats, some have used them for comfort in end of life cases.

The sachet is kept in the jar at all times whilst the blanket is in use.
Once the blanket starts to loose the scent, it can be wrapped up with the sachet and sealed in the jar again to re-scent. This can be repeated again and again.

We are eco conscious and try to reduce waste by having a product that can be used over and over and by having refills available, our packaging is a glass jar, the blanket and sachet are cotton, our labels are unbleached recycled paper and even the parcel tape we use is paper.

We continue to supply rescues as well as donate £1 from every full price jar we sell to helping cats in rescue.

Oh and nope, there is no catnip. Our recipe is now completely cat nip free. 😯
We don’t currently disclose our recipe due to patenting advice but if there is a specific plant you are aware of that needs avoiding please let us know and we can let you know if our product is suitable.

Our most recent £50 donation went to Tender Paws Cat Rescue in Blackpool. They have many cats in their care including the handsome devil that is Stewartson/Stewie.
Every time we sell a full price Happy Kitty Blanket we put £1 “in the kitty”. Once we get to £50 we donate it to a cat rescue, then start over again. ☺️🐈🫶🏻
Cat rescue is something very close to our hearts and we love being able to do our bit to help.
Please remember to support your small local animals rescues, not just the big ones. 🐈🫶🏻🐾

The absolutely gorgeous Tangerine agreed to do some impromptu modelling shots for us this weekend at winter wonderland show.
Bred by the wonderful he is just too cute for words!
Judging by his face in the last picture though, I feel he was a bit fed up with me repeatedly telling him what a little cutie he was. 🫣😹
Good luck in your new home little man. I will forever treasure those cuddles and this hilarious photo of us. 🥰😹

Her favourite things include her mama, FOOD, empty laundry baskets, FOOD, bringing gifts to her mamas bedside at 3am and shouting until the gift has been accepted and FOOD!
