Teenager stage for this wee punk.
The last few days he's been rogue.
Usually great at ignoring dogs he's been wanting to go meet every dog he sees.
Set on ignoring recall and commands.
Most puppy owners understandably get frustrated around the 7- 8 months of age mark.
It can feel like everything to date has gone out the window but it's totally normal.
The most crucial time to continue your training is is from 8 months until your dog becomes a mature adult.
It's totally normal for the them to go through stages of development.
His next crucial stage especially for male Rotties is around the 12-14 months of age when he will start to think he's a tough guy.lol
That's why Ambassador 1 over at Canine Ambassador starts at the 7 months of age.
Wee socialisation walk for Cookie this morning.
Bombproof with the crowds and ignoring wee reactive dogs flying at him.
Needs to prioritise more leash work as he's always off leash.
All in all developing well for his age.
This was once such a common sight in Glasgow.
Probably ended around the early to mid 90s when letting dogs roam came to an end.
Two stray dogs on neutral ground negotiating their safety and hiearchy often without a fight.
They guage trust and seek permission to sniff to prevent fight.
While always posturing body language that says they are immediately willing to defend themselves.
Left to their own devices dogs quickly learned to avoid physical conflict each other.
Fights would only happen over immediate threat to food, females or close territory.
Although they roamed the streets most had a home to return to .
Which meant territories to defend were small like their garden boundaries.
Unlike true stray dogs abroad that sometimes form packs and larger territories like full streets.
If you ever go on holiday to Turkey. Just watch how stray dogs will stop at certain corners to avoid crossing into another dogs territory.
As Ive said often You can only learn about dogs by watching their interactions with each other.
Pack Dynamics!
You don't understand dogs because a book tells you whale eye/ yawning is stress- that's the very basics.
Check out the difference in this boy in just three sessions!
Absolutely wild , constantly stressed and out of control.
Over threshold from the moment his leash goes on in the house.
Now he can be safely off leash around dogs and listens to every single command .
No screaming, whining, barking or lunging.
Set free from his stress .
We had Scotch for four days.
Scotch is reactive to people and some dogs.
His reactivity to people was quite bad .
Not just a bark he really means it.
Over the four days which is not a long time we did achieve loads.
We intensely socialised him 6-8 hours per day while conditioning him to an Ecollar.
The ecollar can be used as an emergency interupter but most importantly ensuring reliable off leash freedom.
His triggers have reduced to almost zero.
His owner is continuing his socialisation every day and they're both enjoying the walks now.
He's even had successful cafe and restaurant trips since.
Puppy powerπΆ
A wee cancellation meant I could spend some time with this we dude!
He's doing great despite the wind and rain.
The harness on big powerful dogs is a recipe for disaster.
They offer no contro or influence.
While allowing dogs to over power you and rehearse aggression.
Look at this dog's front right leg. Even when the harness disables one leg the dog is still over powering it's owner with just three legs.
For some dogs just putting on a harness ups the gears. Ready for action.
In just two sessions this dog is no longer dragging its owner around lunging at people or dogs.
Day three for Kaiser goes home today.
This wee guy has been really tricky to work with.
Always at boiling point he is a lot of dog to manage.
Originally booked in for powering through the ecollar to see people and dogs.
In three days we have done tons of recall around dogs and installed the- Leave it command.
We have managed to make him more neutral around dogs while having loads of fun at the same time. He's walking past dogs 6 feet away off leash now.π
His jumping up and smashing into people has also slightly improved holding him self lower to be petted.
I originally didn't really think 3 days was enough but it seems to have clicked and the boys done good.
Only thing I haven't quite managed to fix is the wee sh*t won't let my own dogs come near me. Which has been hard to manage.
Kaiser in for three days for ignoring the ecollar around dogs.
This dog was under severe stress .
Absolutely out of control from the moment it left the house.
People are always quick to blame the owner but as in many cases I work with the client has two more perfectly happy dogs at home.
Sometimes its an event, experience or just the dogs nature that leads to this.
Hopefully you never experience what it's like to have a dog like this but I can tell you it's extremely stressful, dangerous and not fun.
In just two sessions over a four week period we have dramatically changed this dog.
It's calmer, peaceful more relaxed and most importantly reactivity is almost nil.
Big Teddy,
Went home last week after 5 days of ecollar training and leash work.
While handing him back to his owner a rabbit ran out in front of us just around 20 feet away.
Teddy recalled from it and sat down at that point I let him chase it for reward. Delighted with how the big guy is doing.
