Top tips….

⭐️ if your outdoor piggies don’t have heat, get gel heat pads with covers! “Snuggle Safe” are excellent. Hay just isn’t enough in these low temps.

⭐️⭐️ if space allows, bring guineas in… at least for the nights. They don’t need a fancy cage; a makeshift pen (protected from other pets), is fine. Use bath mats on the base and anything around the home, to make an enclosure.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ get extra water bottles and keep them filled, indoors, so you can switch them over quickly when they freeze up. It saves trying to melt the contents of one bottle!

At Guinea Grove, it’s not just piggies we look after …. Here is the adorable Mr Sooty, the hamster, who is treated like a prince, and quite right too!!! He is with us for a wee holiday whilst his humans enjoy a little bit of sunshine ☀️ ❤️ Look at his palace!!!!

There are, most definitely, more people out there who are kind, caring and generous than there are of the very opposite. I like to hope so anyway, and this has just blown me away….. gifted by a wonderful individual who has a heart of gold. Opening the delivery was like Christmas all over again and just the best surprise. 🥲🙏❤️🥰 🎁

It is with such sadness that we have come home to discover our beloved Winnie hs passed away, only a few months after losing her mum Betty. She died peacefully, snuggled up in a huge bed of hay. They were both so loved… and extremely old! Sleep well, wee one ❤️🙏😢

As the year draws to a close I’d like to thank all my new and returning boarders; it helps buy all I need for my wee rescues. I don’t rehome mine but lots of places do, so “opt to adopt”! 🙏

Thanks to everyone who leaves newspapers and veggies on the doorstep and esp to those who go that extra mile….. 🙏

For those thinking of getting guinea pigs… PLEASE think carefully and do your research. They can’t stay outdoors in winter, without heat, and your kids won’t want to clean them. Yes.. they smell. And yes…. Lots of people are allergic and don’t realise.

And for those who have piggies outdoors all year, please make sure they have a buddy and heat pads or bring them indoors for the winter.

Here are two of our boarders right now, who are having the BEST holiday at GG, whilst their owners have a well deserved holiday! Cuddles are frequent, treats are regular and the love is unending…. For my own and for our wee furries being looked after.

a lovely lady was chatting to me in a supermarket today and when she found out I rescue guinea pigs, she purchased six broccoli and two bags of carrots for all the wee critters. I am forever amazed by the kindness of people. 🥲❤️🙏

It has been a sad day indeed, at GG 😢
Our oldest resident, Betty, passed away peacefully, this morning. She loves to a grand old age at 6 years and was incredibly loved. Her daughter, Winnie has a wee pal called Babs and doesn’t seem to have noticed the loss, thank goodness.
Sleep tight, little one. ❤️😭 🌈

🙏🙏🙏 I’ve had someone offer to buy more fleece blankets for the the piggies, for the cold months, and whilst it’s incredibly kind, I don’t feel comfortable with people spending money as I’m not a registered charity and I choose to do take in/care for rescues, with my own funding. However if anyone is throwing out/reducing their stash of blankets or bath mats, throw them our way! 🙏🙏🙏

It’s forecast to be super cold for a good spell so all the piggies living outdoors at GG have either got nest box heating installed or they’ve come in to the garage, for the time being, if they don’t have that luxury. The heat pads just aren’t enough, right now. Keep your piggies cosy, folks.
It’s just too cold for them outside, without heat.

What is fatty eye or pea eye?👀 These terms both describe the same condition, where there is a drooping of the lower eyelid and a protrusion of the lower conjunctiva. It is not thought to cause the guinea pig any problems and therefore does not require treatment.❤️

‼️⚠️ the weather is getting cold ⚠️‼️
If you have guineas outdoors, please bring in any solo pigs and make sure that pairs/herds have plenty of hay and added heat; this can be done with heat pads and I have several for sale if required. They cannot be outside without a little heat, even in a hutch with an insulated cover. They will suffer enormously and most likely, die. Mine are lucky enough to have heating installed 🔥 🥰

If you wouldn’t leave a dog out, don’t leave a guinea pig. Happy to help with advice, indoor cages or heat pads, if required. Just PM me 🙏😞❤️
