“I can and I will, watch me.”

This was a saying I used a lot as a teenager. I was fluent in bringing my dreams into reality, sometimes setting them into motion 500+ days before.

It wasn’t a big deal, it was just what I did. And it always worked out, I mean always.

But as I got a bit older, as more people took their piece of me, I forgot how to trust myself and how to be me.

Over the last 3 years, I’ve been on a journey learning how to be Romy again and I can’t wait to feel like ‘I’m home’ again.

Part of this journey is making decision on how I want my life to look and then taking action towards that.

So this month my goals are to:

🍁 Do small things to build trust with myself
🎃 Build confidence for me and my horses by doing this out of our norm
🍂 Launch my Equestrian Horse Lovers Members Club

What are you working on this month? Or are you simply just being with no pressure?✨

Timing is everything⏳

In life, love and you guessed it, horse training.

No matter what kind of training you prefer or discipline you ride, if your timing is off by a second, all your hard work is basically null and void.

Forget the cool trainer.
Forget the special gear.
And try and forget all the money spent.

This is the key to clear communication and progression in horse training.

All of this information and more is available inside my Members Club for Horse Lovers 🤟🏻

We strip graze! What works for you?

We strip graze! What works for you?

LONG OR SHORT GRASS?

I'm asked this question a lot.

Firstly - for what type of horse?

If we're talking about an obese horse, or one with EMS or prone to laminitis, then you'll be concerned about the calorie intake, and WSC (sugar and fructan) intake.

Very short, overgrazed grass in a restricted area (ideally tracks rather than rectangular) with supplementary hay is a better choice than AD LIB healthier pasture with longer grass, for an obese/EMS/laminitic horse.

Why? because on the shorter grass their TOTAL calorie and sugar/fructan intake will be LOWER than on the ad lib longer more mature grass.

However, the longer more mature grass STRIP GRAZED may be an even better choice.

The answer really does depend on your horse, their situation, and your facilities/yard.

❌ It's not about how much sugar is in the grass, per kilo.

✅ It's about how much sugar/fructan and calories your horse can eat over a set period of time!

Always monitor your horse and assess the suitability of their environment from them themselves.

I NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE!!

Hello Everyone,

I am reaching out for a little bit of market research and I would SO appreciate your thoughts...

I am setting up a Private Equestrian Membership Club for Horse Lovers who are:

- Done with feeling alone on their Horsemanship journey
- Overwhelmed with information found online
- Challenging the norms because they know there is a better way
- Learning what is best for their horse
- Ready to feel a part of a like-minded community where they will find direction and information that will empower them and their horses
- Wanting access to science based, force-free training methods with step-by-step tutorials
- Have access to a qualified coach and mentor to pass ideas by or review their progress
- Appreciate holistic wellbeing and giving their horses a life that is aligned with their natural needs

Is this something you would find value in?!

If so, would you like to be a Founding Member and join me on this journey? Please put any thoughts in the comments. I want to make this world the best possible place for Horses !

BEHAVIOUR KNOWLEDGE > TOOLS

You’re only going to get so far with equipment and tools. Soon it’ll be like throwing spaghetti at a wall🍝

Now I’m not saying that tools shouldn’t be used for safety or that correctly using a tool is useless.

BUT compensating with equipment to make up for a lack of behavioural knowledge would be, well, silly.

~It starts with you~

Fill in YOUR missing pieces before expecting a fore legged, herbivore, prey animal to understand English spoken by a Frenchman🤟🏻

What is your take on this ? 👇🏻

No reward, no punishment 🧐

I’m listening to Billie Eilish’s mom talk on Rich Roll podcast, on how she raised Billie and her brother Finneas. And she mentions how they never used punishment, but also that they never used rewards, as it was counterproductive.

And I’m like 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 EXAAAACTLYYY
finally somebody gets it, finally somebody realises how it works.

Of course she talks about raising children. But I know that to be the case for animals too. Simply because that’s what my observations have led me to believe.

Maggie, Billie’s mom, says rewards are counterproductive, because the whole activity or behaviour becomes performance based, and therefore we lose our natural desire to do things for the right reasons.

The activity itself should be the reward. Because what you get out of it can be growth in confidence, or expanding your knowledge or awareness, or whatever other physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual benefits.

I mean, of course I have heaps to talk about this subject, and so many more. I have made a few long sit-down videos for my educational group, but surely there is so much more to add. And this is a topic that’s not only horse-related, so I would love to talk about it on my youtube channel as well (but i haven’t started it officially yet 😅).

This is the whole point !

But wait a second…

How do you know the difference between a shout and a whisper from your horse?

Shouts gets your attention🚨

Whispers are silent🌬

So when a horse uses their whole body to talk to you, reassess how you’ve been talking to them.

Chances are they’re matching you🤫

Hello Friends ! I thought we could get to know each other a bit better !

I’m Romy, 26 year old (I still feel 19 though😆) living in England with my Husband and our rescue animals. I started this journey in 2015 and qualified as the only Horse Trainer in the United Kingdom with my skill set💁🏻‍♀️

Here are 10 things you might not know about me:

1. I always wanted to be a pilot, in fact I actually am a pilot. I started flying at 16.🛩
2. I discovered McDonald’s breakfasts about a year ago and now I have to have one once a week.
3. I’m half South African and half Cypriot. Which half is which, I don’t know !🇿🇦🇨🇾
4. Since living with my husband in England, I now drink 2+ cups of tea a day. Such a cliche !
5. A new dream I have is to live in Hawaii for the first year of our children’s life.
6. Growing up in Joburg, we were blessed with great whether. Now I chase the sun because it’s my happy place.☀️
7. I was recruited by the South African Archery Olympic Coach and trained with him for the 2016 Olympics. I never went in the end because a board member made them replace me with her son (he never landed up going either🙄).
8. I’m an only child, thank goodness cause I would have annihilated a sibling😂
9. I used to hate going to the beach because of the feeling of the sand getting everywhere and sticking to me!
10. I watch pro-wrestling on Saturdays👀
BONUS 11. I can talk to animals (childhood dream ✅ check)

I can’t wait to learn more about each of you and connect with some special peeps🤟🏻

In the mean time, tell me one fact about you that not many people know👇🏻

The Man to my Horsewoman🪶🧡

A very talented Horseman in his own right.

Riding is what he does. 130 horses a month for the last 12 years to be exact.

Honest and kind, he hears what they have to say.

My go to for horse wisdom and straight up logic.

Supporting me on this journey and helping pioneer the way.

👇🏻COMMON MISCONCEPTION👇🏻

All people who own or work with horses are kind, empathetic and give their horses a voice.

Unfortunately this is a lie🙅🏻‍♀️ and I know this is so difficult for those who are authentic to experience.

Compassionate Horsewomen are rare like gems💎 and brave like lions🦁

AND we’re banding together to spread the knowledge and language of our horses. We’re fighting for them and making sure their voices are heard often and clearly.

This is the backbone of this business and brand.

So welcome home to all you Horse Whisperers out there🤟🏻🧡

Love doing this for our guys !

Do's and dont's for foraging.

CARDINAL RULE = if you are not 100% sure about a plant do not pick it or let your horse eat it.

You can either bring your horse on a foraging walk or bring back a bag or wheelbarrow full of cuttings.

*learn what's growing around you. Go into your back yard or field and start identifying plants.

*learn the easy stuff, nettles, Dandelion, cleavers, meadowsweet, willow, Hazel, hawthorn.

*get a good reference book to identify plants.

*don't take more than you need.

*be sure it hasn't been sprayed.

*bring scissors and gloves with you.

Happy foraging.

Long time, no speak🎙

I’ve been gone for a moment, thinking and growing, but I’m back now more aligned than ever.

It’s become obvious, after working with clients and horses this year, that my Horsemanship is very much led by Animal Communication and not speaking about that is doing a disservice to the horses.

Now my primary focus will be Animal Communication led Horse Training and Horsemanship.🔮

You can book a session with me to be one of the first people to benefit from this kind of training !
DM or Email to book☺️

WARNING: Horse owners, guardians, trainers, parents please keep your children safe. They are our most precious gifts. They are innocent and rely on us to protect them. Think twice when you let them walk around with flip flops around horses, ride without helmets, hand feed or put them onto young, inexperienced and uneducated horses. They are at risk of being hurt - severely. It can be prevented with foresight.

It is not the horses fault. We will have failed the horse to adequately protect them and likely they will be blamed as has been proven in so many cases throughout the world. Innocently the horses respond and subsequently get reprimanded, punished, even abused and worse case euthanized. This can be prevented with education. We are here to help you. If you have any questions at all our qualified trainers will support you. We are horse whisperers. Be the change!

Please share for the good of the horse.

Happy Monday lovely people !

✨I’m putting feelers out there for a new online service I want to create to reach those further away...or even those close by !✨

I’d love your opinion on what would help your horse best while feeling great for you too.

1.) One 90 minute video call training session with 1-2 weeks email support to complete your desired transformation.

2.) 2-3 months of video calls and email support to enhance your horsemanship and relationship with your horse (this is my fav idea!).

3.) DIY Horsemanship and Behaviour course to learn and implement compassionate training at your own pace.

P.S. Feel free to add your own ideas !

BATH DAY🚿

Washing 2 horses, including 1 Shark is no mean feat. It took us 3 hours, 2 bottles of shampoo, 1 bottle of baby oil, 5 brushes, 2 sponges and lying in the sun for an hour to dry off cause we got as wet as they did🧽🧴

I haven’t felt more productive in weeks😂

10/10 would highly recommend👍🏻

Spring Time Foraging 🥬🥕🌱Horse Edition !

After a winter of knee high in mud our boys are super happy to be getting some fresh green stuff
🥳

But along with the grass comes some yum spring time treats for the horses!

We love keeping things as basic and natural as possible around here so it is always fun when spring comes and we can forage for nature’s medicine🌞

Here are our favourites:

🌿Cow/Pig Parsley
This perennial plant blooms little white flowers and is usually found along the edge of fields/roadside.
We use this as a source of dietary fibre and pick handfuls and mix it with some hay to aid in digestion.
⛔️WARNING - this plant looks very similar to Hogweed which causes severe burns and may even cause blindness.

🌿Cleavers/Clivers
A herb that produces little sticky hairs usually found along the bottom of bushes. The medicine this plant brings improves the health of lymphatic systems.

Nature’s medicine is the best!

What else do you forage for the horses?!

We're delighted to announce that the bill to increase maximum sentences for animal cruelty from six months to five years has finally passed through parliament! 🎉 Blue Cross has campaigned for this law, with other animal welfare charities, for many years and we are delighted that progress has happened. This law will now send a message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated.
