Sunday is becoming gymnastics day!
Last week we utilised an exercise set up by another livery and this week I used an exercise I set up for lessons.

He's finding them tiring but not sweating lots so it's not too physically challenging but making him work his brain and listen!

Happy 6 year anniversary Donut!

Little did I know when I first looked after this lovely boy 6 years ago, that he would completely take over my life! His world changed too - he now hacks, goes to shows, has evented - and the biggest change for him - he goes in a field daily (although, he wasn't happy about that this afternoon in the rain - he hid under the trees)!

Here's to many more years angel! Can't imagine my life without you!

So 1 hack in 8 days isn't enough to keep someone sane despite daily turn out! He had a busy weekend last week so I thought it wouldn't hurt to give him extra days off whilst I was busy and felt crap with my breathing... ummm - this was the tail end of the greeting I got when I went to catch him. It was followed by 5 mins rearing and prancing whilst I tried to get his headcollar on. He was spicy to turn out (he jumped though the gates) this morning. I did think he was bored last night. 🙈 Maybe I need some calmer before getting on tomorrow 🤣 it probably didn't help that it was starting to get dark - he doesn't like the dark!

Rosettes earnt in every class. He was definitely more settled than last year but it's exhausting keeping up with him! He just can't wait for what's next! Unfortunately, the show buzz was ruined by discovering that the tap behind the stable flooded the holes in the floor throughout the weekend, making it awful to muck out as I'd evened the floor out with a lot of bedding and not completely dug it up each day to give a better floor for Moley to stand on.

Next year, I'll book a different block as they are newer and on better condition, although slightly less convenient.

The dressage judge last night certainly summed Moley up well for this show... Exuberant! Today's jumping classes were no exception!

He went for over-achievement in the Riding club horse class as they asked us to jump a very small cross and he wanted to show the judge how big he could jump!

In the 80cm Working Veteran class, I over prepared for an upcoming tight corner and caught fence... he then overjumped everything!

Rosettes in each class. Absolutely exhausted now... he's not!

Moley loved our Strictly Fancy Dress-age performance! One judge said he was almost too exuberant! And that he 'swaggered to the music'! The other judge loved it and gave very high marks!

He loves the big arena! Must better behaved than last year but still a but opinionated 🤣 he wouldn't stand still at all throughout the morning which made getting him ready hard work. 6th place (came 12th last year) with lovely and fair feedback from the judge too.

Had a lovely pre-champs jump today. Hadn't jumped since our hunter trial so was expecting it to be a bit wild but he was faultless! Did not touch a pole, listened, was adjustable and stepped up when I had a miss. I don't know why I get so anxious about jumping when I can count the falls I've had jumping him on one hand and they've all been genuine errors 🤦‍♀️

No photos today as I did it on my own but used an old one! And our nemesis jump stayed up both times we jumped it!

Lovely hack this morning. Checked the music festival out lol.

Taking Moley through the barn this morning and he's doing his usual trying to look through everyone's stuff, so end up pulling him along. Get to the end of the barn and... he's acquired a pair of children's jodhpurs to wear as a fly fringe 🤦‍♀️

Desensitisation training complete! This is why I can dress him up for fancy dress dressage to Music complete with flapping wings! What a twit!

He's come a long way from the horse who was too dangerous to hack as a 5yo!

He's still got it at 18!

Qualified for the Eland Lodge Equestrian Hunter Trial Championships in September at his first hunter trial in 19 months!!!

We hadn't done any cross country since November 2022 due to a field injury which caused a ni**le in his tendon sheath. I have been super careful with his workload, the surfaces he's worked on, and hand-grazed instead of turning out when muddy. His Equilibrium Products magnetic chaps have been a game changer too - the ni**le has stayed at bay since using them!

At Badminton, I saw a pink base layer with silver leaves up the arms in the sale which I really wanted. So encouraged by my friends, I bought it and 'had' to go XC now. Found a body protector in my size online in the sale last weekend... it arrived Tuesday thanks to super speedy service from The Drillshed! So had a school Wednesday, complete with a little rodeo display!

Great news is, the chiropractor said he needed such little adjustments on Friday that he didn't even need the next day off- and he'd done his Hunter trial only hours before due to working the event and teaching Saturday!!! And... no ni**le in the tendon sheath! Think it's safe to say it's healed!

A massive thank you to Renee and Naomi for helping me to get back out there again! We're so lucky to have such an amazing course at 'home'!

Looking forward to my birthday weekend away! Now to get fitter!
