🐰Rabbit Awareness Week🐰

Fun fact of the day🚨
Did you know rabbits can display how they are feeling by the shape of their nose? A happy and relaxed bunny will have their nose shaped in a "U" shape and sometimes when they are stressed their nose can appear in a "V" shape. See Joey’s nose for a representation of a chilled out bunny🐇

🥳🐰 Rabbit Awareness Week🐰🥳

Flystrike affects both indoor and outdoor rabbits🐰

🐇 Flystrike is a life-threatening condition caused by flies laying eggs on rabbits. These eggs hatch into maggots who feed on the rabbit’s flesh

🐇 Check your rabbit all over, twice a day, during the warmer months for signs of fly eggs or maggots – focus on checking their backend, above their tail and around their face

🐇 Symptoms include quiet or withdrawn behaviour, reduction or absence of appetite, unpleasant smell, wet or patchy hair loss or open wounds, visible maggots in coat, collapse

🐇 Prevent Flystrike by doing regular health and fur checks and treating health issues early. You can also treat your rabbit with an appropriate protective product from Spring – Autumn and hang fly strips around rabbit housing

🐇 If you think your rabbit has flystrike you should contact a vet immediately⚠️

🐰 RABBIT AWARENESS WEEK 🐰

This week is dedicated to promoting the health, welfare and happiness of our much loved bunnies🐰

So here are a few essential tips to ensure your bunnies stay at their happiest and healthiest🐰

🥕 Provide a spacious hutch or enclosure: Rabbits need plenty of room to hop, play, and explore. Ensure their living space is large enough for them to stretch out and stand on their hind legs. Consider giving them access to a safe, secure outdoor area for fresh air and exercise.

🥕 A balanced diet: A rabbit's diet should primarily consist of hay, which helps maintain their dental health and digestive system. Supplement it with fresh vegetables like kale, carrots, and spinach. Limit fruit intake due to its high sugar content.

🥕 Fresh water at all times: Make sure your rabbit always has access to clean, fresh water. Consider using a drip bottle or a heavy ceramic bowl to prevent tipping.

🥕 Enrichment and toys: Rabbits are intelligent creatures that need mental stimulation. Provide them with toys, tunnels, and objects they can chew on to prevent boredom and keep their teeth healthy. Hide treats or hay to encourage foraging and natural behaviours.

🥕 Social interaction: Rabbits are social animals, and they thrive on companionship. Consider having at least two rabbits to keep each other company, or spend plenty of time bonding with your bunny through gentle petting and play.

🥕 Regular veterinary care: Just like any other pets, rabbits need routine check-ups and vaccinations.

🐰Rabbit Awareness Week 🐰

Let’s give our bunnies the spotlight they deserve!
Rabbits may be small, but they need BIG care 🐇

They’re not low-maintenance pets — they need:

🏠 Spacious housing with room to hop, stretch & explore -
‼️NO MORE TINY HUTCHES‼️
🩺 Regular vet checkups and vaccinations to stay safe from deadly diseases
🧠 Daily mental stimulation - Try hiding food in hay, offering cardboard boxes, tunnels, and toys to prevent boredom
🥦 The right diet: 85% good-quality hay, 10% greens and 5% extruded pellets
💕 Rabbits get lonely too! They should be housed in pairs
🧼Their homes need to be cleaned regularly

If your rabbit is showing signs of:

⚠️ Not eating
⚠️ No droppings or smaller/harder poos than usual
⚠️ Lethargy or hiding
⚠️ Grinding teeth (a sign of pain)
⚠️ Bloated tummy or hunched posture

📞 Don’t wait! Call us immediately.
